Lumineae Dridders

(Derived from 'Lumen', Latin for Light, and 'Araneae', the class within Arachnids that spiders fall into.)

Lumineae dridders are a mostly subterranean-dwelling breed of dridders, most often found in Evernight Forest (Especially Luminous Hallows), Sunfall Thicket within the Fairy Kingdom, and other such dark places. Lumineae dridders are easily recognizable by their bioluminescent markings on their bodies, mostly just their spider half.

The markings can differ greatly between individuals, often being utilized for various hunting techniques. Some lumineae dridders can produce luminescent silk. The means of glowing can differ; some glow all the time surrounded by darkness, while others absorb sunlight and release it at night. Others still can control whether it's on or off. They commonly have a dislike of being exposed to bright lights for an extended period of time, and generally have good vision in the dark. They tend to keep mostly to themselves in their dark abodes. Lumineae dridders are not known for being the kind to band together in tribes, but don't have a problem with some company, often keeping a few friends.

They have an affinity for an odd type of magic, which seems to be a little of both light and dark magic. They use this to adjust the ambient lighting in their territories, drawing attention to certain features in the darkness, while obscuring others. The more adept users of this can cause the lighting to flicker back and forth quickly, causing disorientation to potential prey or foes, and some specializers can use either strong light or darkness magic, the non-specialized one staying much weaker.

Lumineae dridders tend to utilize their markings to their advantage when hunting- say you're in a deep cavern, and up above you see a single, globular disc high above, slightly obscured. It must be cloudy above, and the moon shining through an opening to the outside, you hope. Heading towards this source, you find a rope dangling from above, barely lit by the moonlight. You grab it, and then are stuck. The rope is pulled all the way up to where the globe is- but it's not the moon. You've been caught by a moon-fisher lumineae dridder!

Well there you go, talked to Moony about the bioluminescent dridders she mentioned in her Luminous Hallows thread, and we came up with this. ^^

Since I worked out that Nerezza has some traits pertaining to this type of dridder, I guess she would be one of them.
