Dream Elemental

A Dream Elemental is unique to every sentient thing on Felarya, anything capable of having a True Dream has a unique Dream Elemental to them. Dream Elementals can resemble anything from a human, to a giant monster made of cottage cheese and clouds of cotton candy.

A Dream Elemental is created in the Dreaming as a weak spirit, and when they are old enough (beginning teen years for them, decades old to others), they are sent to become bonded to a sentient, although some spirits merge together to become a stronger spirit and then create a body out of the usual elements (fire, air, water etc...)

However, since they exist mostly inside their hosts head and on their brain waves, usually being too weak to twist and manipulate say water into a host body, spinning their Dream Weaves to create sweet dreams or nightmares for their host, they are not known or seen and cannot be eaten.

Dream Elementals gain their strength from the Memories of their host, they feed on these memories, which is why as we get older we forget things. However, Dream Elementals are known to put 'important' memories into 'storage', in case they would ever be needed again.

Dream Elementals though, despite seemingly to be strong spirits, are actually rather weak since all of their power is focused into the Host, a symbotic relationship in a way. However, power hungry ones often begin to sap away the energy of the host, or (in a mage's case) consume their mana... or even consume the soul, taking the body as their own.

When the Host dies (or in Felarya, eaten) , a Dream Elemental returns to the Dreaming to live out eternity.

However, if a Dream Elemental gains too much power for the Dreaming, developing powers beyond the norm (telekinses, psychic abilities affecting more then one person at a time), they are immediatly banished for all existence, forced to wander the universe forever. Many of these Elementals go mad with loneliness, destroying themselves from the inside out and becoming something known as a Hole.

Holes are greatly feared by the peace loving and happy folk of the Dreaming, for coming forth from these Holes is Darkness. Darker then the Darkness Elementals, this Darkness once threatened to consume all of the Dreaming, if it hadn't been for the sacrafice of a group of Dream Elementals, the Dreaming would have been consumed... and the Dreaming is a direct path to Felarya.

These holes seem to be multiplying recently though... and the influx of powerful Dream Elementals has remained the same... maybe even petering slightly.

Going into the Dreaming/Dreamworld is NOT ADVISED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Dream Elementals there are for one, much bigger then a puny human, and two... very hungry

Behavior-
A Dream Elemental's behavoir is as varied as their 'hosts', so it would be futile to try to assign one specific behavoir as a whole besides the fact they all eat memories. Sometimes it is said that a Dream Elemental is nothing more then a piece of imagination given life... and maybe they are.

Protector Elemental

From the remains of a Dream Elemental who used themselves as 'plugs' for the Holes, these 'wake up' on Felarya and become immediatly attatched to whatever they see first, be it a tree, rock, or whatever else. Curiously, unlike their counterparts, they are completely lacking of gender.

Protector Elementals protect their object of attatchment with dangerous ferocity, some of them even chain their attachments somewhere, keeping them hidden away...

Protector Elemetals usually make bodies for themselves from whatever they wake up on first, even a body of say... a elf, can be manipulated and used as a body for a Protector Elemental, while the soul of the original bearer of the body is kicked out.

Protector Elementals are as dangerous as any other hungry predator on Felarya, prefering to swallow their prey whole and alive. Like any Dream Elemental, they are all unique. Some use swords, some use magic, some look like wolves, some look like nekos, others look like giant cherry trees who can move around using their roots. It all depends upon what kind of Dream Elemental they spawned forth from. But they can all warp things smaller or the same size as them into their stomachs when their prey is weakened.

Some people classify Protector Elementals as 'sub-elementals', since the few reported cases of Protector Elementals had some manipulation over other elements such as water or stone and the fact that they unlike other elementals, often look flesh and blood, and the fact they are bent on protecting their attatchment, rather then living life as any elemental would.

Since they are so rare, it's been said when the attatchment passes away or is killed, the Protector Elemental 'fades' away, to join them no matter where they go... a bond so strong, death cannot break it...

Behavior-
A Protector Elemental can be a seemingly calm quiet person to a completely crazy and irrational creature bent only on protecting their attatchment from everything that could ever harm it. However, the more 'saner' of the Protectors (and it's agreed they are all pretty crazy in the first place), are almost aways at the side of their attatchment, whether they know it or not. A attatched person, be it neko or human or even elf, will have almost nothing to worry about as they walk through Felarya. These people are often said to be 'lucky'.

These are very original and interesting!

Just the thing that bugs me is that they don't really seem like Felaryan elementals in the sense that they seem to be powerful spirits, yes, but residing in the subconscious brainwave patterns that comprise sleep in sentient creatures seems a little too precise a role for many elementals. I guess I'm trying to say that some random elemental takes the form of the "brainwave" energy of dreams and develops psychic abilities, that seems to fit more into what an elemental in Felarya is described as.

Elementals themselves are a race, and don't necessarily have any specific roles or traits until they take a body of matter or energy. Maybe these could be tweaked for your use as a Dream Elemental as a possible form for an ordinary elemental to take or even if they could be a seperate kind of entity apart from elementals.

I could tweak it, maybe they were spirits born into the Dreaming, and sent to become Dream Elementals, of course, they could possibly take any other course they want, but most would become Dream Elementals. Would that sound better then?

I was honestly more worried about the Holes and Protector Elementals then the Dream Elementals. XD

Very original ideas! I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like them, and they raise some interesting possibilities.

maybe dream elementals can only be summoned by angels? since dreams are somewhat immaterial.

and the interesting possibility would probably be to be eaten while in a dream.

but if that happens would it still be a dream? and the soul is devoured instead of the body, in which case leaving it vulnerable to a predator?

could someone please post here?

Only thing I dislike is - if I'm reading it right - everyone having an elemental to them. I don't like the idea of every person having a Dream Elemental to them, but I can't really word why properly. It doesn't seem... right. It's a unique and well thought out idea to be sure, but I can't see it happening.
