Anyways, since it was bound to come up eventually:

Which type of Fantasy do you prefer? High Fantasy, or Low Fantasy?

What does anyone have something against thinking of something original and making the physics up as you go alng.

well i sugested this rule in the beginign if we decided to make a debate topic area... i thought the thread was about trying to make a area not a debate thread itself XD oh well....
the rule was
2) each post must have a clear idea or opinion expressed. please keep each post to at least 4 sentences or more (no single word or sentence posts please)
I guess I should start enforcing it...

More fuel for the "Tank v Mech" fire:

http://www.pinktentacle.com/2008/01/725000000-gundam/

Enjoy the price tag. 4.35 Million for a complete assembly of a M1 Abrams. Or, in simpler terms, 170 Abrams. Each with a 120mm Smoothbore cannon and a 108mm cannon with a range of at least 3km.

To be fair, however, I think the following should be pointed out:
When comparing ground capabilities, use tanks.
When comparing air capabilities, use Fighters.
When comparing naval capabilities, use Submarines and Naval Ships.

No one would bring a Tank to a Dogfight for obvious reasons.

Anything shot from a tank might have force to knock a mech down if it isn't readily mobile.

Galactic Colossus/Sacred Assault Bot.

If you're a fan of Rooster Teeth, you should remember it from "Supreme Surrender".
Now, in terms of SIZE, a tank measures up to one of that things "Toes". This mech is also submersible, and has it's evil beam of doom, plus tractor beams to suck in smaller units to crush them. Now, the downsides: No anti-air, takes awhile to make. That's about it. It has 99,999 health. Seriously. I made one yesterday.

Concerning high fantasy and low fantasy, I would prefer low fantasy because I can actually relate to the low fantasy stuff better. Seeing as humans are by are by nature imperfect and flawed, it is far more entertaining than high fantasy, where everything is in black and white. Going to such extremes in real life breeds nothing but chaos and conflict, because no one is "inherantly good" (like an elf) or "inherently evil", (like a goblin).

In real life there are simply circumstances that people react to, whether for good or for evil. Overcoming your circumstances and not allowing them to bog soen one's life is a way to keep from doing immoral deeds. It is when one gives up (which we all do sometimes) that the immoral deeds become more of a habit in our lives, because we grow weary of fighting our sometimes base desires. In high fantasy, it seems that the charcters have feel no fatigue from their actions and have unlimited stamina, which is why they stay "Pure as silver," or "Dark as the shadow," for the duration of the story.

P.S. Lord of the Rings is an excellent read, and still remains my favorite trilogy. But, it is the only set of high fantasy books I have read, because from what I've heard, the others just can't compete with storytelling of that depth. I could be wrong, though.
