Luna's Tale
Chapter III
Felarya; Frost Peak
Luna woke up and raised her right hand up to shield her eyes from the glare of the white snow. She looked down and smiled. Her stomach was still bulging slightly, meaning that Mike had not been digested. He was still safe and sound. She yawned and stretched her arms, breathing deeply of the fresh, cold air. It felt wonderfully exhilarating.
She thought about Mike, wondering if he was awake yet. Rubbing her filled belly and patting it reassuringly, she had to admit it felt good having him inside. For some strange reason, Luna felt as if she had found someone who would take care of her. She shook her head at the thought of him and sighed. She would never have thought a human might one day become her friend, and yet…
Shoving aside such thoughts, she slithered out of the cave to seek out a more secure place to finish healing Mike. It was never a good idea to stay in one place too long, and this cave would probably be checked by other predators eventually.
Spotting no danger after a quick look around, she decided to backtrack along her previous path. She patted her stomach one last time, then headed off into the snow. The wind had picked up since she entered the cave, but it did not look like a storm was imminent. Actually, it made the landscape seem even more desolate, with wisps of white swirling around the rocks and fluttering across the vast snowdrifts.

Mike woke up slowly, feeling something beat softly against his head. The sensation led him to believe Luna was moving. That meant she was awake, and it also meant he was still very much inside her stomach. He had no complaints, though. In fact, he felt far better than he had when she first swallowed him. He stayed in his position, unmoving, not wanting alert Luna that he was awake yet. It was warm, even cozy, and oddly enough, he felt safe inside the naga's stomach.
The utter darkness was a bit disconcerting when he opened his eyes at first, but he grew used to it soon enough. Closing his eyes, he tried to drift off to sleep again. He listened to the steady rhythm of Luna's heart beating above him for some time. It was a pleasant, powerful sound. Then another, much less pleasing sound intruded upon his reverie - his stomach was growling. He sighed and decided it was time to move. Reaching into his jacket, he carefully took out a small cube and popped it into his mouth. He swallowed the cube and shifted into a different position inside Luna's gut. Placing his hands over his stomach, he waited for the cube to ease his hunger pangs.

Luna felt Mike move inside her and giggled. She was glad to feel him waking up and rubbed her stomach again. She really enjoyed having live prey moving inside her stomach, as Mike was doing. She chuckled inwardly at the thought of him being prey, then raised her hand to her mouth, blushing in embarrassment. It was not a nice to think that way about Mike, she chided herself. She had no intention of digesting him.
Actually, she could not digest him while her healing powers were active. When her stomach was not actively healing, any prey within was not sustained, and thus did not struggle very long, due to lack of air. Afterwards, for large prey at least, it would take almost a month to be fully digested due to her weak stomach acids. That would change as she grew to adulthood and her stomach acids became more powerful.
She continued moving, unaware of the danger she was in. Far back along her trail, two eternity wolves slunk along, sniffing at the ground and air, ears perked with the excitement of the hunt. They kept a good distance away from her, trying not to be detected by her keen naga senses.
A voice in their minds whispered, "Bring the naga to me, my pets. You will be dearly rewarded if you manage to capture her alive."
They did not respond in kind, but stood still for a moment, looking at one another. With the wind in their faces, a silent agreement passed between them and they continued with their hunt, following the young naga. This would be the last time an eternity wolf set foot on Felarya.

Luna continued slithering along, plowing through virgin snow. The land was still bleak, featureless, and white. Suddenly, up ahead, her keen naga vision caught the fuzzy outline of what might be a wall. She could just make out where the wind was breaking across the top, sending ripples of snow like smoke up into frigid air.
She rubbed her stomach again, wondering what Mike was doing inside. He had stopped moving earlier, so she assumed he was resting or possibly sleeping again. She poked her gut mischievously to try to get him to move and it worked. He poked back. Stifling a giggle, she decided to head towards the wall to see if it could provide shelter. The wind and cold did not bother her much, but she needed to find somewhere Mike could be comfortable after her healing was complete.
*****
Mike felt Luna poking him in his head and shifted to avoid her pestering. She poked several more times, so he pushed back once, hard, then stopped. That seemed to have satisfied the naga, because she stopped bothering him with her jabs.
Thanks to her aggravation, he could forget about sleeping for a while. Grumbling in annoyance, he pulled out a small light, and began adjusting his DCP-21. The pistol had several settings that affected its range, energy dissipation, and rate of fire. He finally got it to a setting he liked. While he was doing this, he was also collecting his thoughts from yesterday's encounters.
He wanted to know why an eternity demon was here. He had almost died fighting the thing - would have died if not for Luna.
Suddenly his senses went on high alert. There was another eternity demon closing in. Concentrating, he sensed not one, but two… not good. He began shifting around to try to get Luna's attention. Jabbing hard into her side, his dread grew by the moment. If he could not warn her, they were both in deep trouble.
*****
Luna felt Mike moving inside, much stronger than before. She started to poke at him, when she felt several sharp jabs. Her eyes went wide at the sensation. What was he trying to do? Was he in pain?
"Luna, watch out! Move wolves!" he shouted within her mind. He was frantically trying to get in some position but he knew he could not help.
She was going to ask him what he meant when she heard low growls coming from behind her. Whipping around, she found herself facing two wolves that looked just like the one she had killed yesterday.
Recoiling in fear, she stared at the wolves that were slowly padding closer. Her mind saw them moving towards her but refused to let her act. As if in a dream, she glimpsed behind them and saw their prints trailing off in the distance - they had been stalking her all along. She briefly thought about fleeing, but knew there was no chance she could outrun them. Even if she did, they would simply track her down again. Subconsciously, she formed two spear shaped icicles and threw them with tremendous force at both wolves.
The wolves dodged to the side effortlessly and continued to close with her. They had their orders and fully intended to carry them out.
"G…get away from me!" she screamed.
From within her stomach, Mike heard the panicked scream. Without hesitating, he shouted, "Zenku dimen dora!" He immediately raised both hands to form a door with them and promptly disappeared.
*****
The wolves, as if sensing their moment had come, howled and charged forward through the snow. Luna saw this and knew it was the end.
Suddenly a door appeared and a figure formed in front of it. With a start, she realized it was Mike.
"Eat this, demons!" he shouted, drawing his heavy pistol and firing it in one smooth action. He squeezed off several blasts of plasma in rapid succession at the oncoming predators, hoping to injure or possibly drop them. He hit with several glancing blasts, and one dead center head shot. Unfortunately, the plasma bolts struck with no obvious effect. Both beasts kept coming.
He was about to draw his sword, but an intense pain in his arms and legs prevented him from doing so. He glanced at his left arm and the pupils of his eyes widened in fear. The poison was now spreading more quickly than before. He found himself unable to move. The wolves were almost upon him and he could do nothing at all.
This was going to be the end. He could not think clearly, but only watch with a strange sense of detachment as the wolves bore down upon him.
A brilliant blue energy beam suddenly hit the lead wolf in the middle of its body. With an awful sizzling hum, it struck the beast full on, sending blue sparks and bits of fur and flesh in all directions. The wolf let out a dying howl as it was felled. The second wolf stumbled, then collided with its unfortunate twin, sending both tumbling end over end through the snow. A horrible burning smell and smoke lines came off the charred corpse.
Mike and Luna were shocked at what just happened and looked in the direction where the beam had come from. A blue and white plane-like mech hovered in the air about fifty feet away. Mike was surprised to see that it was modeled in the style of a SU-47 fighter; two arms and legs came out of the plane's body.
It aimed its nose gun at the remaining wolf and fired. A hail of bullets struck the creature and surrounding area, causing a veritable eruption of snow.
The wolf, having crawled out from under its dead companion, howled in pain as the nose gun peppered its body with bullets. At first, neither Mike nor Luna could see what had happened, due to the cloud of snow the attack had kicked up. But as it settled, they could see the remaining wolf still standing, its fur coated with a dusting of purest white. It growled in anger, and for a moment looked as if it had withstood the attack. However, the growl soon became a gurgling whimper and it dropped to the snow, its blood pooling into the depression its body made.
Both wolves glowed briefly as their bodies turned to golden sand. The incessant wind carried most of the sand aloft, with but a sprinkling left to spread across the snow - all that remained of the two eternity wolves.
Luna looked at the mech plane and got closer to Mike. He was shivering and she noticed, with panic, that chunks of ice had covered most of his body. It was the poison he had been infected with yesterday. Obviously, her healing had not completely finished its task. Trying to remain calm, she attempted to brush the chucks off, to no avail.
She was about to grab him up and swallow him down when a metal hand wrapped around her body. She screamed and began struggling to escape.
"Whoa, taking it easy girl, no one is going to harm you," a voice called out.
Luna looked around, trying to find the source of the voice, but did not stop struggling to get free of machine's hand. "Who-who are and wh-where are you!?" she cried out.
The black cockpit of the plane opened and a person waved from inside. "I'm right here, now calm down before you hurt yourself," the person said, "I am going to make this plane fly up into the air and take you both somewhere safe, understand? It's dangerous here and we need to move quickly."
The nagaling nodded to the person, too fatigued and frightened to say anything. She had not done much, but the scare of the wolf attack and near death had sapped her energy. She was also very worried about Mike and the poison that was still active in his body.
The cockpit closed again and she watched as the mech gently picked Mike up. She almost protested, wanting to begin healing him as soon as possible, but kept quiet, not sure of what was going on. It was evident she could do nothing against the machine anyway, as it was far too strong. She gave a small yelp when the hand holding her jerked slightly. The mech slowly hovered into the air. Coiling her body around tightly and holding on for dear life, she closed her eyes as it began to accelerate, flying through the air much faster than she had been slithering on the ground. She was vaguely aware they were moving away from the mountains. The ride was amazingly smooth, so smooth in fact, she found herself nodding off, despite a strong desire to stay awake. After catching herself several times, she gave up. The last thing she remembered before sleep took her was the icy wind against her body and the never-ending whiteness rapidly passing by below.
