Robin, Gen, and Jack (Rock, Scissors, and Paper)

Three characters whose stories I’ve been planning for a long time, mostly before I found Felarya. I thought I could eventually put them in a story in an A-B relationship with Jimmy and Kenneth. I’ll start with my favorite, Robin:
-
Robin Rey

Age: 15
Hair: Blue
Eyes: Blue
Sex: Male (sterile)

History: Robin is the only child of the current Empress of the Great Empire. That being said, no one except his father Rinoen and his uncle Jack knows about it, as he was separated from her in a traumatic starship crash when he was six months old. Somehow, he survived the crash unbeknownst to the Empress, who had hypnotism treatments to lock away his memory, so her sorrow would not affect the rest of the Empire. Robin, meanwhile, was found by Rinoen, who was banished from the empire after his union with the Empress. Rinoen adopted him, and later found Gen (who also happened to be descended from royalty) and took him in as well. So began their bizarre childhood.

Perhaps only Robin had the truly bizarre time. Rinoen was a master of both the barehanded and bladed arts, and taught both to his adopted children. Gen excelled in the art of the blade, while Robin seemed to be naturally gifted in the martial arts. This continued for eight years, during which time the children had a fairly nice time with life. At that point, however, Robin became a bit too adventurous and ended up being teleported to a distant planet.

After around four months of wandering, he finally found a way home back to the frantic
Rinoen, who gratefully kept watch over Robin and Gen like a hawk for the rest of their childhood years. Once they reached the age of thirteen, however, he relaxed a little, and they took limited responsibility for themselves. When they turned fourteen and fifteen, respectively, he let them go on their own, at their request.

Then life became a flurry of activity. After some weird misadventures, the brothers started training to join the Galactic Police Force (GPF), the military branch of the Great Empire. During their errantries, they met the Empress herself. Oddly enough, she seemed to have a natural chemistry with Robin (I wonder why) and Gen quickly formed a bond with the daughter of the First Queen, the Empress’s second in command. A few misadventures later, during which they met their uncle Jack, the time came for Robin, Gen, and Jack to take a six-month independent training period. At that point, the brothers met the First Empress, the founder of the Empire, and a major and well known a__-hole, and she gave them a mission to embark on during their training period: deliver a powerful artifact to Nemyra, the fairy queen. Up for a challenge, they decided to go ahead and take the mission.

Abilities: Robin is a true prodigy at the martial arts. That being said, he’s has learned and become proficient at the cardinal power of the Rey family: Dimensional Distortion Manipulation. Many in the family have the ability to create a small, involuntary ripple in the time- space continuum, straining the boundaries between the dimensions. The individual can often control the energy created by the reaction, making the physical power of the Rey far greater and allowing for massive energy discharges.

The problem with his knowing this art is his surroundings. Felarya is a world of dimensional distortions by nature, so the Rey art is horribly unstable here. 8/10 times Robin tries to produce an energy burst, it blows up in his face, which is disadvantageous while fleeing for his life. On the bright side, He’s much stronger physically here than anywhere else. Of course, this strength doesn’t amount to much in the face of a creature 20 times his size…

Robin’s true power, however, is his sheer dumb luck. It’s incredible. At the age of six months, he survived a starship crash. Afterwards, he happened to be adopted by his birth father. At the age of eight years, he survived a journey over several planets almost alone, one of which was a barren ice world. He was rescued by a merciful ice monster, which took him to the residence of the Empress’s mother, the previous empress, and thus Robin’s grandmother, who just happened to be living there in that season. This sort of incredible coincidence happens to him on a regular basis. A normal being who has shared half of his experiences would be dead five times over. The kid’s fortune is almost potent enough to call him a meta-human.

His presence seems to counteract predator sense. A predator within fifty yards of him will have its special sense dulled critically, and Robin and anyone around him cannot be sensed in that manner. Jack, the team’s genius, has tried to ascertain the cause for this. In all his efforts, he has found that there is absolutely no reason, magical or scientific, for this. His luck is just plain that incredible.

Personality: Due to how he was raised, Robin is a sweet-natured, excitable kid. Due to his hormone disorder, he can’t really be homophobic, so he’s pretty loose about physical contact. His attitude towards the martial arts is not extreme in any way. He just likes being strong. Like many people his age, he is highly devoted to his friends. He isn’t excessively protective of them, however, as he’s quite confident of their own ability to survive.

Ren “Gen” Rey

Age: 14
Hair: Blonde (long to the point that some have called him gay)
Eyes: Brown
Sex: Male

History: You can pretty much see it in Robin’s profile.

Abilities: He’s a great swordfighter. He really is. He can work wonders with a blade. His age is somewhat restraining, though. A fourteen year old can only be so strong, and not nearly strong enough to contend with a decent predator. He’d be dead in hours if it weren’t for Robin and Jack. He’s not strong enough to contend on his own, and not especially bright. Luckily, he knows and fully acknowledges this.

Personality: He’s the boisterous “comic relief” of the group. He has a signed, laminated paper in his backpack that says so. He’s, well, to be completely honest, a huge liability. He is fairly pretty for a guy, so people call him gay on a semi regular basis. Gen was originally named “Ren” by Rinoen (in the Rey family, any name that starts with an R is considered a family name), but he prefers to be called Gen because Ren seems girly to him.

At any rate, despite his comparative weakness, he is a caring person whose heart is in the right place. He’s no coward, either. Which isn’t good for self-preservation…

Jack Rey

Age: 15
Hair: Blonde
Eyes: Green
Sex: Male (sterile)

History: For all their power, the Rey family has one problem: about 25% of Rey males have a hormone disorder that makes them completely unable to feel physical attraction. Because of this, there are some in the family, such as Rinoen’s father Rosh, who are determined to screw as many women as possible to ensure the family’s future. That and he’s just a natural letch. Either way, Jack is the product of one steamy visit Rosh made to the planet Earth. His single mother didn’t have much trouble raising him alone. He spoke his first words at the age of 2 weeks. Jack continued to develop intellectually with unbelievable speed. At the age of 5, he was reading at a high school level. At 13, he had a Masters in Language Arts and a Bachelors-Associate Degree in Biology.

It was eventually found that Rosh had promised Jack to his friend’s daughter, possibly while he was drunk. The woman in question was from the Empire, so Jack started to learn more about the Great Empire. Despite his mother’s massive disapproval, Jack did as his father promised, and he and the woman were united (Legally. As previously noted, he’s utterly sterile). Of course, they were married in the Empire, where such age differences didn’t receive so much as a passing glance. Eventually, Jack gained an interest in the Police Force, and began his training with them. During his training, he met his nephews Robin and Gen, and when the time came for independent training, the three formed a group. Jack had his doubts about the First Empress’s proposal, but as he felt the need to assist his family, he reluctantly agreed to go to the death world…

Abilities: While most Reys inherit incredible physical strength, Jack instead inherited incredible mental skill. If he hears, reads, or sees something once, he can remember it perfectly and instantly, and can apply it with pinpoint accuracy. With an IQ of well over 300, he is a master strategist and a huge reason, along with Robin’s luck, that the little group has survived this long. He also taught himself soft-touch martial arts during his college years.

More to the point, he learned the art of poison while he was studying biology. He constantly carries several blow darts for when he gets into trouble, along with several syringes. Jack is the navigator of the group, because he got one solid, brief glance at a map of Felarya that a merchant was selling for a rightly copious amount of money. Thus, he has a map forever on speed-dial in his brain.

Personality: Jack is very highly arrogant in many of his mannerisms. He kind of has a reason to be. He was raised to be caring and responsible, though, and it definitely shows. He loves his family, and will do his best to keep them from making stupid, life-ending mistakes; not easy with Gen around. He’s a very calm kid. Then again, its difficult to tell that he’s a “kid” at all, with how he acts…
