I had an idea on how to address Felarya's strange dimensional properties.

Let's begin. First up, dimensional crossings and intersections:
-To begin, once must presume that the universe is made of six known dimensions and several theoretical ones, not to mention the hundreds of possible ones we haven't considered yet. These are the "directions", or "lines", in which we exist. In basic geometry, a line is a single dimension that goes on forever. In the physical world, there are three "lines": length, width, and height. All things can be measured thus. Time is a fourth, upon which all things move.

The fifth is rather unknown, and can be considered the dimension of thought. It has been suggested that this is actually several dimensions, more like a two-dimensional plane or three-dimensional space. It is not seen by the eyes, but perceived by the mind, and energies from this dimension, or realm, can be transferred to the physical ones by means of psionic arts, or by what many call sorcery or magic.

The sixth can only be imagined if you think of our physical universe as flat, though it isn't. Imagine that the Universe is wrapped around in a sphere with a hollow space inside, like some sort of hollow ball where the rind is our physical realm. The hollowness is a dimension in the vaguest sense, since it is theoretically nothing. However, the Universe isn't uniform in its wrapping around the hollow space, and is constantly contracting and expanding, though we can't tell at all since these dimensions are completely invisible to us. In this image, it would represent an amoeba.

Sometimes parts touch and intersect, creating dimensional rifts where parts tear and connect. This creates collisions, where parts seem to link up, usually violently. Things are transferred, etc. Sometimes whole worlds combine in catastrophic events, though some seem controlled, and possibly planned. Maybe due to a deity? Universal collisions of any kind are incredibly rare.

Another, more common, occurrence is portals between differing areas of the Universe. This is because some areas get close to each other without colliding, and energies of a kind we have yet to understand create quasi-material bridges between the two parts, allowing matter to transfer between the two in a more controlled manner. On relatively small scales, these connections can be created. Natural ones are called "rifts", fabricated ones are "portals". The best explanation for this is the Einsteinian view of gravity, in that empty space is like a blanket or tarp, and all objects "press down" on it and create sinkholes. This is why gravity exists, because if you stretch a blanket on a bed and put a bolling ball on it, there will be a dent. Put a marble near the bowling ball, and it'll roll down the sloping dent to the ball. The bigger the object, the more extreme the dent.

So if a good amount of gravity occurs because two spots get close due to the amoeba-like movement of the Universe, a rift will form and connect the two "dents".

You should read this thread
http://felarya.forumotion.com/ideas-discussion-f3/felarya-cosmology-thread-t27.htm

I am actually in the process of writing a paper on a possible theory of the Felaryan phenomenon... but competing ideas are a good way to advance the theory, so please do keep it up!

(also a s a kindness to readers that much text needs some paragraph breaks XP )

Mhh the shallow "sphere" idea is a very interesting theory ! ^_^

Ah, so I see I am not the only one working on this concept. Very fortunate. While I sometimes tend to be a glory-hog, I will readily admit that several minds are better than one. I suggest we gather a few people and form a think-tank, and toss around ideas and build upon accepted ones. Ooh, the idea of such an event gives me shivers, in a good way. Without sounding arrogant (I know I say that a lot, but people always say I sound condescending), I get tired of people claiming to have headaches whenever I mention dimensional physics. Hopefully, gathering some people to think on this could actually produce ideas no one of us would think up alone!

Yeah, I usually put paragraph breaks (sometimes too many), but I suppose I forgot to.

Thank you, Mister Karbo. I actually got it from an astrophysics book I read about black holes. It discussed the idea that theoretical wormholes actually acted as bridges through that hollowness and broke through to another part of our universe. I added the expanding and contracting part to partially explain the instability of certain rifts. I'll probably edit it to elaborate that "collisions" are extremely rare, and a more common occurrence is the formation of rifts when parts get very close.I think it makes sense, I mean, on the atomic level, all things in the universe are moving (unless the temperature is 0 Kelvin). Maybe the universe itself is no different.

I thank both of you for your compliments. I shall soon breach the subject of why Felaryan soil has its odd properties of rejuvenation, after I figure out the best way to explain Felarya's "lack of outer space". I think the best way to approach it is to propose that Felarya is on an isolated section of the Universe, one that rarely ever moves (because certain parts are less stable than others depending on their position, since the hollow space is by no means a perfect sphere, and ones closer to the edges would be less stable). However, it is surrounded by rift energy, creating a constant exospheric rift around the planet. So, technically, it's in outer space, but it can't be approached from it.

I did notice a few propositions to multiple universes in that other thread. Personally, I've never liked that idea. I don't know why. So, I've come up with theories that treat the various worlds as planets, each separate. I thought of a possible Stargate-style explanation of humanity's existence on various planets, and that is because of rifts and such, but... I thought maybe I should leave that alone for now.

HOLY CRAP this post was long. Sorry!

*nods* I am personally a proponent of the multiverse idea, and its central to my felarya theory actually^^ but it will be good the have a multi and a uni theory to compare and contrast with.

I suppose that's definitely easier, but then terminology gets confused, and people start mixing up dimensions and universes. They're two very different things...

EDIT: After reading into your paper a bit, I see that you already know that.

yup its actually one of my pet peeves when someone says "alternate dimension" *shakes fist* when what they meant to say was alternate universe.... >.>

Same here! Sometimes I feel like calling Stan Lee on a phone and explaining the whole concept to him...

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Marvel Comics fan, but that misconception does make things a little irksome every so often.
