PostSubject: Cleaning lore   Cleaning lore Icon_minitimeMon Mar 01, 2010 2:27 am

This is something I have been willing to do for some times and, after discussing it in the chat, I will be on it seriously now ^^
I think that a certain number of rumors in the lore section need to be either confirmed ( basically removed and moved to the corresponding page ) or modified/rewritten in order to have them look like more rumors. Some of them may even be removed altogether because it has become redundant or simply outdated.

So this thread is if you wish to signal one that you think fall into this category

Let's see... 1-50 to start out with. These are just my own opinion of course.

3. The soil of Felarya can heal broken bones over time.
Not really a rumor. It's true. Should be put on the main page with the healing properties.

11. The great chimera Notys is said to be able to travel through time as easily as one walks.
Are guardians that well known? I think this should be under her description.

19. A magical item of some considerable power is said to rest in the belly of the mermaid Anko. Want to take a look?
A reference rumor. It can be a rumor though, it isn't too bad. Maybe remove?

20. Strange "no smoking" signs can be seen near the Giant tree... who the Hell could be stupid enough to put such signs there, deep in the jungle?
Funny, but a bit silly I suppose. Maybe remove?

21. Don't fish in the Jewel river! Most "fish" there tend to bite more than just the bait.
Jewel Fish. Maybe remove?

22. The soil of Felarya will loose 80% of its regenerative ability when outside of Felarya, no longer granting immortality. Fragments of the soil are still powerful healing ingredients that keep their healing properties for years or even decades depending how long they were in contact with the rest of the soil.
This seems like it's known more than rumor. Put it under the healing properties on the main page.

24. Deluran scientists are going crazy with frustration over WHY Deluran steel rusts so fast on Felarya... They just can't explain it!
I think this is a known thing, not a rumor. Put it under their description if it isn't already there.

25. The more you stay on Felarya and on its soil, the more your body becomes infused with it, making you healthier, taller, and stronger. The bad news is it also makes you a more nourishing meal for predators...
Seems a good rumor, although I think it's a known truth? If anything, remove the part about being nourishing. Seems out of place.

30. Miaxi usually die very shortly after being separated from their hives. Some very rare cases exist however, where the miaxa managed to survive alone and developed a personnality of her own over time.
Either a pred rumor, or a known fact. Put it under their description?

31. Once, a mage tried to install a network of teleport gates as a means of transportation throughout Felarya. He gave up when half insane, the project hitting a serious snag due to the unstable nature of the world.
Make it a known fact? Explaining the two gates on the map so far, as well as a few more that aren't put on the map yet?

32. Some Felaryan predators actually visited Earth centuries ago. It was mentioned in the travel report of a human adventurer called... Ulysses, I believe. This was the tribe of Laestrygonians guided by a renegade warlord named Antiphates. Since then, they have gone extinct from starvation on their small island but the main tribe still lives somewhere in Felarya, according to rumors.
Don't think we should try to link Felarya with our Earth. Remove I think.

33. Dryads don’t like Christmas much for fear of being used as a Christmas tree. That’s actually a known prank in Felarya: decorate a dryad while she’s sleeping. Just make sure you don't wake her up or you'll end up in her stomach even faster than usual!
Funny, but perhaps the same problem as above. Do Felaryans celebrate Christmas? Perhaps there should be a unique christmas-like holiday in Felarya?

35. Were-creatures on Felarya are oddly affected by its moons system since there is more than one, that their number sometimes varies, and they are all full and new at different times. Thus were-creatures are always at a half and half stage, still retaining their sanity but getting some of the abilities of their were-forms and sometimes some funny and unwanted effects to go with them.
Perhaps this should be under a were-creature section of minor races? Also, the moon system should be further explained.

37. If it's big enough to eat you, it will try. 38. No place in Felarya is safe, only safer. 39. When dealing with giant predators, safety in number quickly becomes an overrated concept.
Those three are good lines, but maybe put them under the quotes section?

40. Near Frost peak, there are two mountains called "the mountains of Vivian". The mountains were not named because the naga Vivian has any claim to them, but because for some reason, everyone always thinks of Vivian when looking at them.
Funny, but just how famous are the main characters that they are universally known, and have things named after them hundreds of miles away? Remove I think.

46. With their incredible resistance to poisons, Slug Girls have become the main predators of Miaxi. They see the bee girls as a sweet delicacy, relatively easy to capture with their sticky saliva.
Known fact looks like. Put under Slug girl page.

48. Once, a dusk nymph caused a great panic in Negav and ate several citizens before being chased away. For some reason, this kind of fairy appears to be totally immune to the effect of the Isolon Eye, the main defense of the city. Even the magiocrats are utterly clueless as to the reasons of this immunity ...
Known incident. Put under the dusk fairy entry, or under the Isolon Eye page. Maybe have a time line for incidents like this and 36 too?

50. Humans who have lived for a long time in the wilderness of Felarya sometimes have strange thoughts and begin to be tempted to eat small creatures alive...
Reword slightly I think. "People who have lived in Felarya for a long time begin to have strange temptations to eat small creatures whole and alive..."

I think the Guardian's would be well known... as legends and myths, similar to how we see Dracula, or Frankenstein's monster. We've all heard stories about these monster, but only some of us have actually read the original stories, and only some of those actually know about the real life inspirations for them.

Depends on how this rumor came about, and who is telling it. Anko guards a fixed place, so it's probable that people have given her a name/found her name out, and recognize her as an individual, rather than just some mermaid. If some mage detected a strong magical source when near her, they could rightly conclude that she had something magical on/in her.

Alternatively, the rumor could have been started by someone who knows Anko, or has spent time near her. Maybe a fairy that detected a magical presence when near Anko, but couldn't see an obvious source for it, so assumed/joked that it must be in her belly. The fairy then tells their friends/potential-prey, and eventually the rumor gets into the greater population.

I dunno, I think these could be pretty funny. The only question in my mind is who would be putting them up? Everyone at the Great Tree eats humans/wants Anna to eat more humans, except for Anna. Her putting signs up could be an attempt to keep herself from losing control.

Or the entire thing could be a joke, started by a visitor who noticed Anna's temper in regards to smoking, and the joke spread and became a rumor.

Well, it depends entirely on who is telling these rumors, and if anyone is going to be widely known, then it would probably be Vivian. Helen of Troy was just one woman, but we know of her and her beauty because of the war that happened because of her. Likewise, Vivian is also probably widely known (at least among preds) as a legendary slut... because of her epically large rack. ^^;

I could see her being known among humans because of her rather unique hunting methods; if a few survivors escaped then they would surely talk about how the naga with the massive mammaries charmed people into being okay with being eaten. Since (to the humans) her extra-extra large "assets" are her defining characteristic, I could easily see a pair of large, round hills/mountains being named after her.

160. A band of adventurers told me that they once heard the mighty demon Terror sneezing in her dark sanctum of Evernight forest. They said it was surprisingly high-pitched and cute, referring to it as a "Pikachu sneeze" !

I don't think Felaryans would know about Pikachu... o__o

Pikachu could be a Felaryan word that means something totally different. Like, "High pitched and Cute" Razz
