Average Humanoid Height Empty
PostSubject: Average Humanoid Height   Average Humanoid Height Icon_minitimeSun Oct 03, 2010 5:09 am

Yep, it's time for another query for clarifications, this time for the average height of prey-sized humanoids on Felarya. I know it should be opened for interpretation, but I'd like that people share their thoughts on how tall an average Felaryan Human, Neko, Elf (non-giant), whatever. Since they are compared to Humans, Elves are said to be only slightly taller on average, while Nekos are described as just taller. So I guess from shortest to tallest among those threes, it would go as Human - Elf - Neko.

Let's begin with the base, the Human. They're described as usually being taller if they are Felaryan born or lived on Felarya for a long time. On average, a real Human being is around 1.80 meters tall, which is roughly 5'11 tall, with variations depending on their race, their location, the resources available, and maybe their sex, I'm not so sure about that part. In Felarya, the average Human height is taller. Is it closer to 1.90 meters tall, or 6'3 tall? Or is it greater than that? If we go with 6'3 in height for an average Felaryan man, the average Felaryan women could be roughly around Léa's height, if the average female in Felarya tend to be a bit shorter than men.

Next are the Elves and Nekos. We know they are taller than an average, but by how much? Elves are described as slightly taller than a Human. To me, that means they usually are a few inches taller, so the male Felaryan Elf could be roughly around 6'5 or 6'6 in height, with possible variations on the subrace, location, possibly gender. Nekos are trickier. They aren't given an approximate compared to Humans and are merely described as "taller". This present an issue as it is ambiguous wheter they are only slightly taller, or much taller than a Human. If we assume merely "Taller" means, "Noticeable greater height, but not excessively tall", we can assume they are on average roughly a few inches taller than an Elf, so maybe around 6'8 or 6'9 for a male specimen, again with possible variations according to the subrace, tribe, descent, location, resources and gender if it is taken into account in Felarya.

These are merely the average heights I give them in Felarya. If you have your own, feel free to discuss this query and share your thoughts.

A thing to keep in mind is whether Felarya's referring to a first world human average, or human in general. Personally, I'm of the latter: On average, someone living in a (relative) shit-hole in Felarya is going to be taller than someone living in a (relative) shit-hole on Earth, if only due to the vitalizing nature of the place. This changes the average height from 5'10"-5'11" (1.8m) to 5'6" (1.67m-1.68m). Which would, in turn, give average people a more first world-ish height on average. I can't see the average Felaryan person being over 6' in height - an Elf might come close to six feet on average (possibly between 5'11" and 6'1" for males for an average?), and Nekos a little taller, but I'm not seeing a "short" Felaryan Neko being a "laughable" 6' in height.

Bear in mind I'm still speaking Global terms: There might be areas of Felarya where the standard of living is high enough (Bear with me here, regardless of improbability with Predator density and dietary requirements) to allow someone to grow to the heights you're proposing as an average, but I'm not seeing it as something that is predominant. Furthermore, genetics still come into the picture: Short people will still be short, tall people will still be tall. Dietary and health benefits increase the average, but not this drastically.

Uhm, I'ma throw a question out that was just in my head. Seeing as no one really has a death date in Felarya due to the soil and whatnot. Wouldn't someone continue to grow taller as time passes and they are still alive? Given that they live "healthily" enough to continue natural body growth?

Honestly I'm speaking off the top of my head. I never got a chance to take this kind of stuff in high school so I'm shot. I just felt it may be a reasonable thought.

I've seen an entry in wikipedia for average people heights in certain countries, and one had an average height of 6'3.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Average_height

About the Nilotics and Dinkas. Plus, the Dinaric Alps have an average height of 6'1 for males.

To answer Coda's question, if that was the case, a Human could potentially grow into a Giant and it hasn't been confirmed or denied if it's a possibility yet. Personally, I don't see it because if someone lived for like 100 years in Negav and kept growing, he'd probably be somewhere between 8-10 ft in height and still going.

Good point, so I would guess there is a "maximum height" cap somewhere. Either that or we could just assume no one has really lived that age without something happened or they just weren't keeping themselves on track for health.

Due to there being less restrictions on human height (due to deilitating diseases) the height of a human would no doubt be higher than normal on Felarya, around 5'6 maybe.

Keep in mind, a lot of what determines someone's height is genetic in nature. The healing factor will help some, but there is a genetic limit that everyone is born with. It should also be noted that humans are one of the most diverse races in Felarya, with representatives from a dozen different worlds all living together. Who's to say the average height for a Deluran is the same for a Miritan?

In general, I see humans ranging in height about as much as humans on Earth. Most would be between 5'5" and 6'2", but you would always have some exceptions. Elves and Nekos are a bit taller on average. I think its kept rather open for a reason. Elves and Nekos probably hover somewhere between 5'10 and 6'6" on average. Its not like they're Na'Vi.

Also, Coda. No, humans would not continue to grow. The human body stops growing between the ages of 18 and 21. The healing factor does not even kick in until around age 26 or so.

How do you know that for sure? Does that mean "You must be 26 or your wounds won't heal faster and your immune system won't be supercharged." or something?

I think he just means you won't stop aging until 26.

I've explained this before in other threads. The anti-aging effect of the healing factor does not kick in until someone hits their physical prime where any more aging starts to cause degenerative effects. For humans, this is between the ages of 26-29, and for hybrid preds, this is occurs in their 40's or 50's.

You still get the benefits of enhanced healing and an enhanced immune system from birth. I was referring to the anti-aging property.

Like I said, I have been neglected a chance to get my hands on classes or any information on genetics and this stuff. It was an honest question and thanks for clarifying.

No worries, man. Some animals actually DO grow constantly, like some species of snake. I know some people suggested that for nagas, but due to practical reasons (imagine a 1000ft Crisis o.o ) the general consensus is that they do not have that particular snake trait.

Think Mermaids have indescriminate growth, though? It would suit water-livers better than most species, I would think...

I personally would have liked that the Nekos were shorter. It would have been a change in a place where nearly everything dwarfs humans.

And having the latter as varied as they are in the real world sounds like a good idea, but i'd say that, as already told, Felaryan natives would often be on average taller and fitter than normal people. It would help notice who's been actually born in Felarya and who just happened to end here

On this line of thinking, I'd like to know how tall a Nemesis is. The Wiki calls them 'tall humanoids'. Does that mean the same range as nekos? Or maybe "amazon" height, say seven feet? Or are they giant-sized?

I believe that they'd be around Neko height, possibly a bit taller. They are not giant since some live in Negav.
On that Note, I believe that Nekos can get to around 7 feet tall.
