There are a few portals, one of them in Ur Sagol, that could be used to waltz into another world and leave all the troubles of Felarya behind. But here's the catch... This only works if you have come across a similar portal while on another world, and retain memory of that portal. So if you were born od Earth (which I assume you were), and have no knowledge of such things, you would not be able leave Felarya this way. This also goes for people who were born on Felarya... People who have never even seen any worlds outside it. So, say, if Remus and Xanthe left Felarya through one of these, Ciel and/or Maroon (still haven't decided if he should be born before or afterward) would be left behind while her guardians vanished.

There are still so many things I need to learn about this place... But right now, I just need to know... Is there another way to leave, or have I created a gigantic plot hole?

I thought the Ur-Sagol gate could take you anywhere you wanted, whether you've been there or not. Also, it is possible for portal mages or others who can operate portals to open them for other people. So if that group of people you mentioned went through a portal they'd all go together.

Honestly, the Ur Sagol portal really isn't even your best bet. The city and its surrounding area are notoriously dangerous, and there is the obvious limitation of having to know where you're going. Unless you're originally from another world, you just won't know.

The most sure-fire bet is the Negav dimensional gate. It links to over a dozen different worlds that Negav regularly trades with. The main limitation here is that, well, it only connects to worlds Negav trades with. The odds are astronomical that you're from one of those worlds (and if you were, you'd know about Negav to begin with and be trying to make your way there).

This brings up the somewhat unavoidable fact that, if you end up in Felarya by accident, and your homeworld has no dimensional technology or magic, you really cannot ever get home again. The Ur Sagol gate is the only chance of that, but the whole place is a deathtrap. You could use the Negav gate to go to another world though and try and start over there. There's actually a group in Negav who does exactly that. The Organization for the Assistance of the Dimensionally Displaced (O.A.D.D.).

As for dimensional mages. Ehh...I'd think they would have to know where they were going. Walking up to one and going "Take me to Earth" really isn't going to mean anything to them.

If I were stranded in Felarya unprepared (i.e. without my own private AT-AT) I'd take whatever I can get for an exit. At least the places Felarya trades with will (hopefully) be less likely to eat me. And maybe from there I could portal-hop my way home.

Coming into Felarya is a one way trip. The portals are really the only things that can help you back, like Cliff and the others said.

You COULD try lucking out in that one section of the forests that's dimensionally unstable which could bring you out of Felarya, but it's out of control for the most part and you won't know where you're going.

It was on Karbo's map if I remember right. I'll have to cross check it and come back to you on the issue.

I think you're talking about Miragia Forest, right Pen? That place is helluva random when it comes to interdimensional unstability.

Anyway, as it has been pointed out, portals are the only way to go back to wherever you came from. But as Cliff has pointed out, Ur-Sagol's is a suicide mission, even if it takes you wherever you want, and Negav's is limited to those worlds that usually trade with Felarya, so yes, most of the time coming to Felarya is a one-way trip.

And as Cliff also mentions, the O.A.D.D. is still there to help you in whatever is need. But first of all you have to get to Negav or be lucky to be found by an O.A.D.D. expedition.

Perhaps I am mistaken, but I was under the impression that the Ur-Sagol gate still had to connect to another gate, and that operating it was more complicated than, say, clicking your heels together and saying "There's no place like home." Razz
Makes going there even less appealing...
As for dimensional mages, perhaps you could impart enough through telepathy for them to get a fix on where you want to go, can't be cheap though...
Negav trades with about a dozen worlds yes, but those worlds would probably have links to still other worlds, and those would be linked to others yet... All in all if your world has a gate there's a pretty good chance you can get home after a bunch of jumps.
If you're from a world with no gates though, or you can't get to/can't operate the Ur-Sagol gate, and cant afford a session with telepath and dimensional mage you're shit out of luck.

Well the wiki is kind of contradictory on this one. The example used is that an assassin used the gate to get to some emperor on another world. The entry make it sound like that he appeared right behind said emperor before murdering him, which raise the question as to why he'd leave an interdimensional gate right behind him, but whatever. It could be better explained. Also, you seem to forget the most obvious disadvantage of the "there's no place like home" approach that it's a one-way road.

It's an interesting question ^^
And indeed it's not that easy to safely leave Felarya if you are not familiar with others dimensions.

Like Cliff pointed, the Negav portal is a good option as the worlds it connects to are mostly safe and one of them ( not designed yet ) is a big dimensional "hub" that can lead to multiple others destinations.
It also lead to the simple but important question of what happens if you take Ur-Sagol portal without thinking. I imagine you would end up in a default world.

Sean : Actually the assassin didn't appear just behind the emperor. he hijacked the palace's portal system so to speak.

This also raise a question. Let's assume you take the Ur-Sagol portal and think of your homeworld. However, your world has no interdimensional gate whatsoever. What would happen?

You... wouldn't go anywhere because the gate would have nothing to go to. It's like asking "How do I send an e-mail to a computer with no internet access." The answer should be obvious.
