Name: Ruby (Alias: Vermithrax)

Diet: Mainly humans and elves but she is willing to settle for Nekos. She won't discriminate by age either, everything smaller than mouth is fair game.

Likes: Treasure, pillaging for treasure, anything shiny or valuable, magic, unique objects, stories, and live prey

Dislikes: Thieves, people who'll use magic against her, anyone who tries to force a conversation onto her, leaving her cave, someone eating prey she had her eye on first

Bio: Born and lived her whole life in a world named Avalar; Ruby is a very introverted and reclusive girl. She is half-human and half-dragon, two races that very rarely get along together let alone breed. Her father was a powerful drake who hailed from an oasis found near the volcanic peaks of Avalar's wastelands. He would often raid villages for food and treasure, one of which was a maiden with the most heavenly of voices. Far from home and longing for human contact the drake allowed her to take residence within a village not too far from his mountain. She was welcomed among the villagers, all of whom were unaware of her “relationship” with a dragon and made a place for herself within a few short months however she was required to return to the drake’s cave every full moon night and sing for him. While the details surrounding Ruby's conception are unknown, she was raised under both her mother and father from within the drake’s cavern and occasionally the local village where she learned to speak and discovered a love for all things that glistened.
Because of Ruby’s existence as half-dragon, the village grew to dislike her and her mother; both would have been put to death if not for the fear of arousing the drake’s anger stirred everyone’s minds.

Her life took a drastic change for the worst at the young age of nine years. Her father was slain by a wandering dragon-slayer and her mother was burned at the stake after he was no longer around to protect her. The young dragon girl fled for her life, almost never to be seen again. The rest of her life was spent within a misty valley called The Pit of Despair where over the course of seventy years she grew to the size of an adult drake, eventually returning to the village that murdered her mother and exacting her vengeance upon them; it was during this raid that she discovered the wonderful taste of humans. Ever since that first raid she began attacking villages all over Avalar, stealing treasures and eating villager. Everyone all over the continent feared her for no one stood a chance against Ruby, earning her the terrible alias of Vermithrax.

One day whilst on her usual raids she came across a village of humans that was suspiciously close to her cave. This was Midway Village, a quiet little town sitting beside a small river. The people would often pan for golden pebbles occasionally found on the riverbed and not too far away were small caves that the villagers mined for silver and exotic gemstones. Midway had become a favorite trading spot for many merchants and jewelers thanks to all the wealth the town was unearthing. Wanting the gold and gems for herself, Ruby attacked Midway. Before she could cause any damage was subdued by a powerful but old wizard by the name of Taliesin. He would have killed her had he not been of gentle heart so instead he struck a bargain between her and the village: Ruby was not to harm anyone within the village under any circumstances. After five years of peace, Taliesin died of heart failure and the village feared that Ruby would come after them, seeing as she had no reason to keep up her end of the bargain. Fortune shone upon the village as a wandering magician came upon Midway, immediately he was forced to take up Taliesin’s role (even going so far as to change his name to Taliesin). This guise however did not fool the dragon woman, and unfortunately the new wizard’s magic was not strong enough to cause any real harm to Ruby. Ruby however enjoyed being pampered and hailed as a guardian, instead of eating the imposter and the villagers, she would instead bend the agreement to her liking. The villagers would offer her a human sacrifice, whomever they desire, or appease her with treasure; failure to comply would mean that the whole village would be devoured. For the next fifteen years, she had been living in peace as a semi-guardian of Midway however she’ll still help herself to the villagers should they fall short on their bargain.

Like all dragons she is capable of breathing fire but not as long as other dragons, about one strong blast for five seconds at most. Breathing fire for too long tends to burn her throat, which takes a while to heal, allowing many victims to escape. She is also able to fly, thanks to her wings: while not the fastest flyer in Avalar she is durable in maintaining flight for almost an hour nonstop. Due to being half human, her fleshing skin is a bit delicate but the scales on her forearms and legs are strong enough to repel most damage from swords that aren't enchanted. Despite her dragon half being immune to magic, she is mostly human making her susceptible to any powerful offensive spells cast onto her. Even though her skin is delicate, her stomach is a powerful cauldron of acid that is almost impervious to any blade and magic (as a Dragon's stomach should, as dragon fire is among the hottest flames in existence).

Ruby tends to avoid contact with anyone unless they're her next victim or they have something of interest to her. When Ruby opens up she can be an open book, although she'll keep the painful details of her past to herself for obvious reasons. Despite spending most of her time within her cave, she loves flying across the countryside and taking new and exotic sights. She also enjoys listening to stories and discovering new things, some people have even saved themselves from being eaten by introducing Ruby to something she has never seen before. Very few have reached a personal level with Ruby where she considers them part of her treasure horde, meaning they're under Ruby's constant protection however she has a bad habit of forcing whomever falls into this category to stay within her cave or intermingling with "food". Ruby is very possessive and tends to get violent should someone or something try to steal what she claims as hers (even more so if a predator eats one of her "human treasures"). Woe is to the thief who is on the receiving end of Ruby's fiery wrath.

She had stumbled upon Felarya due to being caught within a sudden dimensional tear while out on one of her flights. It took Ruby a few days to adjust to her new home but after learning of the inhabitants and of the steady supply of game that’d wander into the jungle, she has come to accept Felarya as her new home. She has taken residence close to the ruins of Ur-Sagol.

Well she sounds like interesting character, but I see some flaws in your writing. First thing you say she likes magic in the next you say she dislikes magicians XD A little contradictive unless you mean she likes the wonder of magic but often finds magicians to be less than admirable?

The way that's phrased is a little odd. Perhaps you meant to say "half-Dragon"? Dragon-Half makes it sound like she's the butt of a dragon rather than the beautiful lady that I see.

Other than this I find her amazingly well put together. Love her personality, a little sad but she doesn't seem bitter because of it. She seems to have way too much of an obsession with treasure though! XD But what dragon doesn't? The line about how she keeps humans and thinks of them as Treasure's reminded me, happily, of a old Sea Krait Naga who has a simular obsession:

I also like how she's not invicable. Very cool who you thought about how mixing humans and dragons wouldn't create a super hybrid but a slightly more armored human who's flesh would be pretty vulnerable. Her weakness towards magic is a nice added balance but I think that'll hurt her in the long run as a character. ^_^; Felarya is too full of magical weapons, spells, and people. Heck the ground is saturated with the stuff! It's why some of the crazier things are possible.

All in all? Good character, V, buddy. I like your style of character making so far. Keep it up!

Fine, Valerian, since you asked so nicely...

I'll set aside for now the fact that if she's 109 feet tall and didn't get it from her mother's side, then... well, that's prolly none of our beeswax, for all I know a wizard specialized in artificial insemination did it. I would wonder, though, if her mama would be effin' burned at the stake for having gotten it on with a dragon, how was she living at a village? Did her papa have to intimidate the villagers into letting her stick around?

Now, ah, well... jedi, you said that he wasn't making a super-ultra-hybrid. And I disagree, Valerian, I think you did just that; she was 9 when she, in your own words, "Ruby’s anger reached a point to where her rage brought a horrible maelstrom of fire and brimstone upon not only the village but the entire countryside." I mean, she's 99, last 20 years were spent as a guardian in Midway, 70 years before that maturing at the Pit of Despair, and she was just a child, too. If she did that OVER the next 70 years, best to clarify.

Gotta ask, too- why is it she only enjoyed the taste of thieves and bandits if she was looting kingdoms for their treasures? It wasn't thieves that burned her mama at the stake, bandits that slain her papa, or mercenaries that isolated her from friends. No one stood a chance against her, you say, and that makes me ask, "what of the guy who killed her papa? Did he stand no chance against her either?"

Then there's... well, a village where a mage very nearly kills 'er. Over the next 20 years, she becomes their protector rather than eat them, because he spared her life and they had a deal. If so, there's something that doesn't make sense to me; how come she snacked on 'em folk when they failed to supply? She had been nearly killed, and that kind of thing ain't something you eff around with. Did the mage die in the meantime or something, why did he stand for this? He could've gotten her head, couldn't he?

Also, if she really was letting them live for treasure, it'd be fair if the town had some sort of resource they could use to get her treasure. If it had been built near a river they could pan for gold, gem seams nearby, or maybe lac bugs which they could use for a special dye that allowed them to charge a tax on every transaction and get away with it because traders really LOVED that dye... that'd make a little more sense, specially since they chose to settle suspiciously close to the cave she picked. It's like there was something good about that spot.

Now, I know they say dragons don't actually eat that much... but you can't live on adventurers alone. Frankly, the most typical diet in Felarya is the Venn diagram intersection of "anything that fits" with "anything that moves under its own power". Sometimes, even things outside of those two...

You needn't worry about powers. Add as many or as few as you want- chances are it won't really make a difference anyway. It's all in how it plays out, 'less you're trying to RP.

Bio: Of the many things feared on the Topazial Sea, Marina is notorious as one of the many “boogiemen” that sailors fear. She is a giant pale mermaid with silver scales who lives with a giant chlaena named Daphne in the Topazial Sea within the circle of islands that lay between the mouth of the Jewel River and Shillapo Island, together they’re known as the infamous Topazial Charybdis. The two lie beneath the surface of the water and wait until any unsuspecting schooner strays close enough, then together they create an amazingly powerful whirlpool that drags unfortunate ships and their crew down to their hungry mouths.

The one who creates the powerful whirlpools is Marina. She is not very skilled in the usage of magic however she has mastered the technique of creating whirlpools at will without getting dizzy. To do so, she’ll open her mouth while submerged and looking towards the surface, blow a steady stream of bubbles and then begin sucking some of it back to get it started. From there, she’ll start to spin in place to make it stronger, once its become so powerful she can feel herself being pulled under is when she ceases spinning and waits for her meal to arrive. It is unknown where she learned such powerful magic but everyone who isn’t an immediate friend knows that the first sign of a vortex breaking the surface of the water means that you’re more than likely about to become her next meal. The few who survive are the ones who either abandoned ship before the vessel became caught or can hold their breath long enough to hide below deck whilst the ship is pulled under.

However this does not mean that Marina is as straightforward and mischievous as other mermaids. Surprisingly, Marina is a very shy mermaid when around other predators. She doesn’t usually interact with others aside from Daphne unless they’ve met her in a good mood (which more often than not is after she and Daphne have a little physical bonding). Her sexuality is a very interesting one, in that she does find men attractive but she enjoys her regular “physical sessions” that Daphne subjects her to. This has created a lasting impression on the mermaid; she has become very dependent on Daphne in more ways than one. On regular days, Marina will tend to keep to herself and look out into the horizon. Once every blue moon she might sing a tune so beautiful and hypnotizing that it draws many unsuspecting towards her, however she never uses this as a method for catching prey. Despite being a man-eater, it’s quite easy to befriend her should the moment present itself: meet with her whilst she sings and give her a flattering compliment about her singing and her beauty and she’ll be your friend for life, taking you off the prey list permanently.

Her past is a bittersweet one; it begins tragic but ends happily. She was one of thirteen eggs laid in one of the many underwater cities found in the Topazial Sea. However being the thirteenth egg, her mother feared she was going to be bad luck and so she abandoned it near a deep-sea trench. It was there that Marina hatched alone and had lived alone for all of her youth. She had watched other mermaids help themselves to humans and other deep-sea creatures but she wasn’t as stealthy as the others due to her silvery scales constantly reflecting sunlight, Marina was forced to hunt for prey in deeper waters and almost never learned the wonderful taste of humans.

Fortunately for her she had come across Daphne during one of her deep sea hunts. Feeling pity for the malnourished mermaid, she had decided to take care of Marina. Ever since then, Marina has been enjoying a healthy diet of sailors and pirates with the help of Daphne, who was skilled enough to catch many ships unaware. It was sometime after this that Marina had learned she could create whirlpools but again the details are unknown. Seeing this skill as priceless, Daphne had convinced Marina to use it whenever a ship was to sail through and they would split the meal 50-50. Their first few attacks were a little sloppy and some sailors had escaped with their lives, this is how the tale of the Topazial Charybdis spread amongst the many ports of Felarya. Over the course of the next few years, the duo had perfected it and now they regularly sink ships daily whenever they’re hungry.

Age: 77

Height: 103 ft

Hunting Habits: Highly Specialized
Bio: The self proclaimed “Vivian of the Topazial Sea”, Daphne is at both times alluring and sexy but dangerous to all men everywhere; second only to Vivian herself. Daphne may not possess the hypnotic abilities of Vivian however she has the ability to compress her body down to almost any size and even blend into her surroundings thanks to the pigments in her skin. Like many chlaena she can survive both on land and in the sea however she needs to keep herself wet every hour or so or she’ll dry up.

She is the driving force behind the Topazial Charybdis, whilst Marina makes the whirlpool its Daphne who’ll pluck sailors from their schooner and empty the vessel of its cargo. Her prehensile tentacles can reach into any number of places, and her skin is sensitive enough to feel the texture of anything it touches meaning that she can tell the difference between a fallen wooden board and a human tripping onto her tentacle, they are also able to feel certain vibrations in the air. Only those who can hide somewhere impossible for her tentacles can reach and don’t move a muscle can avoid getting snagged and eaten. Like a few predators found about Felarya, there is no other food tastier in the world to Daphne than that of struggling humans. The only people safe from meeting her lips are friends of Marina or any friends of a friend that Daphne might know, otherwise there is no way to escape being on her menu.

Daphne takes great pride in her sexuality, Vivian being her childhood icon and inspiration. She is very lustful and can turn any predator she spends the night with into a dizzy drooling vegetable within a matter of hours. Daphne has studied the most tender and weak spots on both genders and makes sure to keep track of it all whenever she finds a new partner.

Her origin is something of a mystery. The most she’ll ever tell anyone is that she had spent most of her childhood in Ryzelm’oire with her father but more often than not she would travel outside the city and wander down the rivers of Felarya. One day she became lost and ended up at the Chordoni Waterfall, it was there that she met Vivian and, after watching the naga use her sexual appeal to lure prey into her belly, became the Waterfalls Sorceress’ biggest fan. She abandoned everything she ever knew and owned in Ryzelm’oire and set out to become just like Vivian by any means possible, even becoming her apprentice once.

After a few years of training, Daphne returned to the Topazial Sea and began putting her new skills to use. Needless to say she was very successful in luring pirates into her gullet. It was around this time that she had met Marina and the two eventually became the Topazial Charybdis. While Daphne’s sexual partners aren’t too consistent, she will always have time in her afternoon to tease and “play” with Marina.

Bio: Most naga are born in the wilds and come into contact with humans later on in their youth, Nagaina however was born within a human tribe dubbed the Simpaltens found within the Direwind Hills and still lives every day within it. Her name was not given to her by her mother but by the tribe itself, the name meaning “Naga Goddess”.

Her mother, the first Nagaina but originally named Kaliya, had come into contact with the Simpalten clan by accident and despite a small dispute between predator and prey, the tribe’s high priest had mistaken her for their serpentine deity due to the interesting pattern of stars on her tail. Ever since then she had been sworn in as a deity and semi-benevolent guardian of the Simpalten. Of course Kaliya had come to enjoy her new life of constantly being pampered, offered sacrifices to gulp down every new moon, and worshipped by people who’d willingly offer themselves to be eaten in her name. However Kaliya herself would venture away from the tribe every now and then to enjoy the other lands of Felarya, where she met the naga who would become Nagaina’s father. After months of carrying Nagaina’s egg in secret, Kaliya herself laid her egg in a remote location of the Direwind Hills. However this couldn’t have come at a more inopportune moment as a harpy had stumbled upon the Simpaltens and began eating the tribe! Kaliya fought long and hard against the harpy but was fatally wounded in the process; she wandered off to die alone somewhere out in the hills. Nagaina’s egg hatched a few months later and the baby naga found her way towards the Simpalten tribe almost as if by instinct. At first the tribe was baffled by the arrival of this younger naga bearing the same pattern as their former goddess but the high priest had come to the conclusion that this was indeed their goddess only in a younger form to heal from her battle against the harpy. For six years the Simpaltens had raised Nagaina, pampered her the same way as their previous goddess, and taught her of her destiny as protector of the tribe. To protect itself from any future attacks the Simpaltens, with Nagaina’s help, carved out a giant cave under one of the hills. Having a fondness in sculpting clay, Nagaina had built new houses for the people to place beneath the hill. To honor their new goddess, the Simpaltens erected a monument in stone in her image.

Nagaina is still very young and has much to learn not only in magic but also in obedience and manners. She is very childish, mischievous, and will throw a fit when she doesn’t get her way. Her behavior is a tomboyish mix, she enjoys being pampered in the many ways most young woman would however she has been known to spit on, pull hair, and harass people she does not particularly like. Like her mother, Nagaina loves to explore outside the Simpalten territory, from the trees of the Forest of Whispers to the shores of the Shimmering Sea; she’ll never stray too far from home. Being as young as she is, Nagaina hasn’t developed an interest in men nor women but in the slight chance that she befriends anyone smaller than her, she’ll protect them like a brother or sister. Nagaina is a VERY picky eater though; she won’t eat Nekos, Inus, or anything with animal fur or feathers; anything that lacks either of these is fair game.

Kaliya was a powerful naga who specialized in hypnosis through eye contact and through song, Nagaina though not as powerful as her mother has inherited this trait from her. Kaliya was able to hypnotize anyone of any size be they of flesh and blood, Nagaina can only hypnotize beings that are smaller than her; unless the larger predator has a weak mind or low intelligence they will be immune to her hypnosis. Nagaina’s eyes have a special property that allows them to shift colors and lure smaller prey into a trance, she emphasizes this ability through her hypnotic singing. Only powerful magicians and those who’ve trained their minds to be immune can break free from her power, otherwise the effect will wear off by losing contact with her eyes or through a small pinch anywhere on the body.
