Hey all, I am in extreme pain due to my wisdom teeth coming in. Apparently one is coming in sideways and the Dentist never told me. Anyway, I can't open my jaw wide anymore and require surgery (Most likely). The problem is, my family is going on a 2 week vacation to Alaska in a few weeks and i'm scared. I dont know what to do. I did find that drinking Sierra Mist helps, especially when I hold it over the damaged areas. Does anyone else know what I should do and what I should expect for the surgery and after? Please help if you can!

Ahhh Wisdom teeth pains. Haven't thought about those for years. Sounds like you need to see Temi! She likely culd help you with those!....but would probably eat ya. XD Have fun in Alaska! It's pretty up there so take some pictures if you see some breath taking sights. As for surgery and recovery time? Google it. You'd be surprised what you can find when you use a smart phone for medical stuff! =O

If you're in significant pain due to wisdom teeth, you need to get them removed ASAP. If you schedule now, with your condition, you should be able to get them out and be mostly recovered by vacation; you definitely don't want to go on the vacation with them still in. If you're scared of the surgery, ask for general anesthetic; you won't notice a thing. Recovery is going to be a few hours of having cotton stuffed in your cheeks to help stop the bleeding (it's going to be seeping, not outright gushing or anything), and a few days of liquids and soft foods while your gums are tender. You probably won't need to go in again to get the stitches out; they'll dissolve on their own in about a week.
