PostSubject: Poll: What kind of theoretical Felarya game would you like?   Tue Sep 20, 2016 7:26 pm

I've been thinking, if someone from a video game company approached you and asked what type of game based off of Felarya you would like, with no strings attached or limitations, what kind of game(s) would you want? To simplify voting, I have made the votes multiple choice as we all like a few different types of games. And if the game genre you like isn't on the list please comment so I know what your thoughts are!

Again, this is just THEORETICAL, I do not have time to work on a game in any sense except story and concepts.

I technically founded a video game company about a month ago, and was thinking about eventually (as in years from now probably so don't hold your breath) approaching Karbo about the idea of making some games set in Felarya. Specifically, I've been bouncing around ideas of an RTS game detailing the Corrector Wars, and a Dwarf Fortress clone set in modern Felarya where you play as refugees from an uninhabitable world trying to make a settlement in Felarya.

As much as I'm not a fan of FNAF gameplay...that is how you make a Felarya game. A point and click survivior with some movement options and AI's that adapt and try to outwit, and ultimately, devour you. Now you can't use the same method of winning the game as FNAF. Staying in the same spot till 6:00 AM would  just make it easier for predators to grab you. ^_^; So if I were to re-order the victory system I'd make it so the system just counts down how long till dark when the difficulty ramps up dramatically. Food and water system would be good and a tool system though a flash light is hardly going to keep predators at bay and while a Freddy Mask works on Anna...probably wouldn't on anybody else though. But we can replace these with near enough copies. A Camo Net to replace the Freddy Mask and a limited set of Flash Bangs to Replace your flash light. Now what about the Six AM For Five Nights Victory system....should simply staying uneaten and getting to Negav.

Ahh, that brings back an idea I had awhile ago about a Felarya FNAF parody game. It would follow the role of a security guard in the Abandoned Vitishmal Outpost watching security cameras and trying to defend against the Storm Sprites making chaos in the place with the electronics. (I imagine it like a sci-fi type base). I thought it would fit since Storm Sprites can mess with electronics and are pretty frighting preds!

The best way to experience Felarya would be an open world RPG the likes of Skyrim or the Witcher, but since that kind of game requires a considerable manpower and budget, I would say the most plausible way for a game to be made and become popular would be either a branching path visual novel (remember the one Stabs made some time ago?) or a point and click adventure for the exploration part combined with reaction button scenes (those moments where you have to press the appropriate button or you get hit) for the dangerous moments.

Actually Rempy has the kinda of tech to make a visual novel with a choice based system I think. If everyone picthed in and donated pictures and helped with graphics....It could actually be possible. o.o;

While I like a Skyrim-esque Felarya, I just cannot see how it would probably be made. Sure, outsourcing voice actors and 3D modelers may be easy. But for a world as large as Felarya, I began to share the sentiments of the few out there, but there is still a possibility that there would be a group that would make it (somewhat like the Crowbar Collective) and deliver it. Then again they would be doing it for free... Xion could help, but then I think it would not reach the level of detail most games large companies make.

JRPGs are one of the more feasible concepts, and the most common one. They are cheap, and you only need to hire some artists to do the art, and spend the time programming the rest of the game. But I think the game would be quite large, and production may take a long time and yet be cancelled in the end(looking at you Seliky's Story, and Shrink 'High Gaiden,) and it tends to be restrictive, unless it has a branched storyline or none at all.

Third Person Shooters would be awesome (fighting in Negav, while doing parkour and stuff,) and would be quite short, unless it has a storyline like Call of Duty or something. More outsiders would consider funding the game, if it proves to be fun and has a "controlled" amount of sexuality. I could see some Vishmitals fighting off rebels in the hope of reclaiming land or a magician fighting in Negav, escaping from the clutches of some organization. But then it could be costly, considering that most of the games in the market are high quality.

That's what Stabs made his game in, yeah XD I advised him to use Renpy because of how easy it is to program in.

As for what you said, Lockheed, you seem to think the game needs to be on AAA-game level or something. Look at how many indie games are out there now, with various amounts of success of course, but still, there they are. It doesn't need to have a budget of millions from the very start, things should be rough but nice at first, then as people like what they see, it can be improved from then on.

I agree that, even with procedural generation, an open-world RPG would probably be pretty ambitious. What I'd like to see is a robust multiplayer-capable third-person action/RPG framework that we then have the community add stuff to. Something between Skyrim, Monster Hunter, one of the various zombie survival games, and maybe with a dash of shooter; you could use the same engine for a lone person trying to escape a predator, a small squad of Isolon Fist fighting a naga, a Vishmital convoy under attack by harpies, a gang war between tinies in Negav where everyday objects become important terrain features... It would probably have to start out instanced, but ideally it could be expanded until it comes close to an open-world game in scope.

For me, fighter and open world RPG with a little civilization strategy. I would definitely like choosing a certain race (water sprites would be so fun to play as) and having a wide range of magic. I agree it would be ambitious, but it would be awesome. Maybe there could be a progression based system? Like maybe you start of with humans and tinies, and work your way up to the powerful races. I'm stating what I'd like, not what's realistic

Oh? And why Water Sprites?

As I stated before, this is all theoretical. Meaning if in therory, you could make a game with any amount of detail and qulity and resources, what would you like and why.

Water sprites are basically all my favorite super powers compressed into one entity XD

Not necessarily Felarya but Wild looks like it'll be interesting once it releases for the PS4. Been following development for a while now. It's a more primitive adventure, but the premise looks nice enough.

Personally I'd prefer a game similar to Terraria- a platformer, exploring procedurally generated environments (ruins, forests, caves, etc.) collecting assorted loot to build up your gear and home.  Death is permanent like in Terraria hardcore mode, but when you die, you can start as a new character taking over your existing base of operations, so you don't lose everything.

Most of the time, you're exploring and fending off small, manageable enemies with your weapons, but occasionally the music changes and you're pursued by giant characters you have to evade, knowing that if they catch you, your character is finished.
