Felarya and Undertale Empty
PostSubject: Felarya and Undertale   Felarya and Undertale Icon_minitimeFri Jan 06, 2017 9:13 pm

This idea has been brewing in my mind for awhile. Recently, I got involved in the story and lore of Undertale, a game that is pretty interesting to say the least. When encountering an monster, you can kill it, or spare it. These choices will change how the story goes. Additionally, items can be used to help, like how when encountering a dog guard, throwing a bone will have the dog chase it, ending the battle.

There can be many parallels to Felarya here. One that I think of most promanatly, is if an adventurer encounters a fairy, how giving them a book will often lead to a way to escape from their belly, as they all have a great love of knowledge. Another point of interest is the idea of Friends. In Undertale, pretty much everything is trying to kill you for some reason, but if you spare a monster, they can eventually become a friend. The same may be true for some preds of Felarya. Say for example, you use a shotgun to break a faries wings, wounding it. You can either kill it, leave it and walk away, or try to befriend it and have it become an ally.

One last and somewhat abstract thing of note is morality. In Undertale there are 3 basic paths, Genocide (Killing everything), Neutral (Killing some but not all), and Pacificist (Killing none and sparing all). Each has a different ending and a different morality attached to them. Likewise in Felarya, good actions turn ones soul good and evil actions turn ones soul dark. Although there is still debate over how exactly it works, it still might be similar to the system of undertale. (Especially if you factor in that Sans Judges your actions when you meet him in the Hall of Judgement at the end of the game).

Thoughts?

(Also Happy 2017 Everyone!)

While having played and being a big fan of Undertale myself, I dont think you can easily transfer Undertales morale and monster behaviour to Felarya, mostly for the reason that in Undertale, the monsters want to capture or kill the human because they want freedom. In Felarya, the monsters eat humans for the very basic need of survival, aand while a friend is nice to have, in the long run having nothing but friends would lead to staarvation eventually.
Also, chatting or playing or even eating slowly exposes you more to your environment, causing you to stand out of hiding. This poses a risk to your own survival as bigger and meaner preddies can prey upon you as you are talking or doing anything other than be a swift and silent killer.

In Undertale, that threat of starvation OR being attaacked by other predators didnt exist. On their pyraamid of needs, you were aa lot higher up, graanting them a choice to take you in or befriend you. In Felarya, you're a lot deeper down on the basic levels of needs and if the pred just so happens to be too hungry they cant afford to stop and consider taking you as a friend.

In some cases, sure its possible. But being all pacifist most likely isnt gonna work simply because for many preds no matter if sentient or not, there wont be any "mercy button". You'd have to defeat them, then talk to them to achieve their attention, let alone friendship.
Felarya is more that "Kill or be killed" world, and like a certain character says at the end of the game, there are many floweys out there.

There is such a thing as being pacifist in the sense of treating all others in an equal measure. Take the "Mad Man" for example: 'E perceives Felarya to be a world were right and wrong are non-existent and treats every individual in a manner that reflects that perception. "Mercy" is a dead form of emotional expression in 'eir eyes. The act of granting mercy to a Felaryan predator is equivalent to how Torial is killed by Frisk/Chara after granting him/her/it mercy.

Besides, like Flowey and several others said, there will be a time when sparing will not be an option for some individuals. There are, and if not there will be, predators and even tinies that are equally, if not more, atrocious than Chara.

Hmm I can see some of what you say. The Undertale 'Mercy System' is in fact able to be extrapolated to the Felaryan model but at the same time it can be applied anywhere. Heck I was fighting some bandits in Skyrim who stood NO CHANCE against me and I briefly wanted to see a command for Mercy pop up. Now it is ironic in odd sort of way but playing the game 'Fragile Hearts', a fan sequel to Undertale, made me realize a Mercy system isn't actually that hard to code and that the author had a script for it. It's basically a lock picking system in combat only each time you go to pick the lock you have to use a different method of opening the chest while under the pressure of combat. It gets complex when you use multiple enemies or the boss method of sparing in UT, IE wait throuhh all that text till you see the clue or the boss spares you but totally doable.

But in Felarya I don't think many predators would spare ya XD And you can forget fauna or flora encounters having that option! >8D It's eat or be eaten!
