Opal Weed

Opal weed is a grass like plant that grows better in open areas like plains and fields. It is surprisingly durable enough to grow fairly well even in areas with intense wind such as Direwind Hills. The Great Rocky Fields also contain noteable fields of them as well.

The plant has bulbs growing along the medium-sized grass-like spine, which tend to remain a fairly small size relative to the weed. Despite the bulbs, the plant doesn't require a noticeably larger amount of water either. However, the plant is most notable for its night time display of color. Opal Weed is called such due to its tendency to glow dazzlingly bright at night, producing beautiful light. Depending on magic concentration in the area, and the source - such as more magically dense atmosphere or nutritious soil, the color that the bulbs glow will be different.

Despite assumptions, the bulbs are actually rather poisonous. They are more useful as materials in magic, while the stalks of the weed are the more nutritious. Other than their ability to glow, and their use in potions and food, they are one of the only non-carnivorous plants in Felarya. However, Fairies love them. They tend to grow them in various areas in the Misty Glade and the Fairy Kingdom, where they have been crossbred with other plants to give them subtle aromas (and for mixing with Oosoon berries!) in order to lure curious animals or even adventurers.  If you see them in a forest...steer clear.

This has given the plant its more infamous nickname: The Light of Death.
