The problem with Numa

Trav took a moment to study his surroundings, and the location of the sun in the sky. "That way, I believe," Trav said, pointing in the direction of a rough trail. "It should be a small river, slowly flowing, with reeds and ferns on the banks."

Numa nodded and crawled off in the direction specified.

Numa's sudden departure took Kyrii off guard. Because of Numa's size she had to run to keep up.

"How lon you think it's gonna take to get where we're going?"

Numa shrugged, she didn't even know about the lake until Trav mentioned it.

“It may be a while till we arrive,” Trav said, riding up on Numa’s shoulder. “Though at Numa’s pace, it shan’t take too long. In the meanwhile, can yeh tell me if there be many o’ the cat folk yeh size? Be there tribes o’ giant Nekos or be yeh the only one? I’ve not seen a Neko so large afore.”

"I'm the only one to my knowledge. Well we have time for a story I suppose. So I can explain it better. It all started a while back. . ."

Numa stopped. The story was at least somewhat similar to hers. She hid her feelings and continued to follow Trav's directions.

“Faith…I knew naught of such a past, Kyrii. I didn’ mean to dredge up such painful memories,” Trav said. “Tis a failin’ o’ my kind, that men turn to such cruelty and madness. I know it may mean little to yeh, but I be sorry that yeh ‘ad to endure such wanton crimes.”

“Yeh did Felarya a favor, riddin’ it o’ such lunatics. Yet there seems to always be someone willing to abandon their humanity in pursuit o’ vengeance or power.”

Numa was doing her best to blot out the rather painful conversation.

"It's not so bad. I've gotten ued to it. The best part of this is now I have little fear of predator's! And I can travel to my heart's content."

Kyrii noticed Numa trying to ignore the conversation. Quick subject change time she though.

"So have you both been in the area long?"

“Recently, yeh mean? Nay, I just be passin’ through,” Trav said. “However, I oft travel through this region, there be many interestin’ sights to see ‘ere. Granted, it be dangerous fer one such as I, but I muddle through somehow. And the views be worth the journey, I tell yeh. There’s the Chordoni falls, a towerin’ waterfall that would make even yeh, Numa, seem small. Also, there be the flooded Eastern Chidokai forest, where massive trees seem to grow straight out o’ the lake, and the vast ruins o’ Ur-sagol. Oh, and the Jewel River, so named fer the gems that seem to grow from the river bed.”

“It be hazardous, but Felarya be beautiful and fascinatin’. I be glad that the soil gives one reprieve from old age, it would take more than one lifetime to see all there be to see ‘ere.”

Numa gave out a sigh, she was getting bored of walking. And, judging from a loud rumble, quite hungry.

'Uh . . .oh"

Kyrii heard the rumble. She had not though about it but Numa was big, big enough for Kyrii to be a pretty good meal for. She hopped out of Numa's arm's reach.

"Hungry?"

Numa saw Kyrii move aside. Numa instead grabbed and ripped a whole tree out of the ground. She wrote "Sorry Trav, but Numa needs to eat."

Suprisingly, she started to eat the tree-leaves, branches and all!

"Oh a vegetarian. That's cute."

Kyrii felt ashamed to have suspected Numa and having abandoned Trav.

"Well I'm gonna look around for something to eat myself. I'll be a moment. "

With that Kyrii turned to leave. . .

Numa caught Kyrii, and offered her a leaf. She sat smiling softly.

Kyrii though for a moment.

"I guess it couldn't hurt to try it at least."

She sat and ate the leaf. It waen't very good but it got the job done. She prefered this to upsetting Numa and Trav by eating adventurer's.

"This is ok for now."

She was trying to get the point across that she wasn't goint to eat plants for too long.

Numa frowned. "Why do you eat liing things? they have as much right to live as we do." Numa wrote into the ground.

“If we be stoppin’ fer lunch, then I might as well find somethin’ to eat as well,” Trav said, jumping off Numa’s shoulder and landing on a nearby branch of a large tree. There were several vines growing up along the trunk of the tree, and out over the branches, with several clusters of berries hanging from them at periodic intervals. Coming to one of these, Trav plucked off a berry and examined it, then tasted it. Finding it was good, he used a small knife to cut off several bunches of the berries.

“Say, Kyrii, I know yeh don’ think much o’ plants as food, but these berries might be more appetizin’ than leaves,” Trav suggested, walking along the branch back to Numa and snacking on some of the berries.

Kyrii look at Numa's message. She then looked at The leaves. then at the berries.

"Trav eat your fill. When I eat the berries I'm big enough to eat the bush."

Kyrii looked at Numa's note again. She didn't know how to explain it. She didn't want to say for revenge. But that was her reason.

"Do i go around eating people? Since i got here, the only creature i've eaten is a dead one. Not breathing, and i need the protein." Numa wrote. "Surely there's a alternitive? Carrion? Fish? Berries?"

Kyrii Shuddered at the though of eating a dead body.

"Fish aren't always available and I don't exactly like the idea of searching for a million berries to fill me. I don't think we should continue this convesation. How's this I willl not eat anyone in front of you or trav. Okay?"
