Overview

Nymphs, also sometimes called Ground Sprites or Ground Maidens, are a peculiar race of ground based fairies. Like most fairy elemental hybrids, they are called Sprites by most. Nymphs, unlike most fairies, lives in burrows they dig using their earth based magic. They live anywhere the soil is fertile enough for them to inhabit.

Appearance

Nymphs at first seemingly possess no wings. In reality, they can retract their wings inside their skin, like many beetles. They usually possess hair, skin and eyes that contrasts with the soil, as to stay hidden from their potential preys. But really, their skin, hair and eye color can range from any color at all.

Abilities

Again, like most fairies, Nymphs can alter their own size as well as the size of anything else, unless the object or person is over 12 feet in height, which would require powerful sizeshifting magic. Most Nymphs have extremely sensitive sense of touch. They can sense the vibrations of the ground by placing any of their limb on the ground. Their antennas are the most sensitive and accurate to pick up vibrations. Of course, they possess typical night vision to see underground, earth magic, the ability to walk unharmed on hazardous surfaces, and to not trigger pitfalls.

Personality

Nymphs tend to be more stubborn than fairies, but their personality is a very diverse among individuals. There's really nothing else to say about their personality, I mean, they're not conformists.

These seem pretty cool. The beetle-wing aspect is interesting, although I think it makes more sense for them to fold their wings against their body than to draw them inside their skin- as beetles have chitin armor that folds over on top of the wings. Perhaps something like this could be a means to protect the wings- which hold the fairy's magic- in case of a cave-in? If there was one, they'd probably have to shrink to a smaller size to find their way out, or otherwise move obstacles.

You also say that they have features that "contrast" the surroundings; I believe you meant "blend in".

As for names- how about Terra Fey?

I suck at names, but Trapdoor Fairy? As in the Spider type?

Dusk Nymph is already used, so you can't use just "Nymph". So try "Ground Sprites" or "Earth Sprites" or something like that.

I change my mind and agree with Observer88, Earth Sprite sounds better.

Mhh I loved this idea of retractable wings ^^
