Mimic Driders Empty
PostSubject: Mimic Driders   Mimic Driders Icon_minitimeTue Dec 23, 2008 12:28 pm

Race: Mimic Drider
Type: Drider
Height: 8-15 feet. On occasion rare specimens grow to 50 ft, typically when mimicking a tree.
Main Locations: Grove of Carnivorous plants, Jungle of Peril,
Description: Mimic Driders are driders that do not use webs to catch their prey. Rather, they rely instead on camouflage to let prey come to them, thinking they are just approaching a harmless flower or an easy meal...and then grab them and enjoy. They often blend in almost perfectly with their chosen plant or location over time: often they choose to hide near flowering or fruiting vines and their arachnid half will come to greatly resemble this particular plant; ones which hunt near giant pitchers will resemble ginat pitchers, those which hunt near drakefruit trees often resemble the fruit or flower, etc. They also have an innate illusion magic which allows them to make the illusion even more convincing. It can often be next to impossible to tell the difference-sight, smell, and other properties are duplicated. The only hint is that the illusion is often TOO perfectt in appearance: the symmetry, for one, is often too perfect to be natural. Due to their hunting method, they are often smaller than other driders, and almost always are forced to use their dissolving venom on their prey. They have very patient, calm personalities, and rarely interact with other races of drider-or any other race, for that matter*-unless they have to. This has led to other driders commonly referring to them as "hermit driders". Their often floral patterning and body shapes has also fueled rumors that they are actually dryad or nature elemental half breeds.

*except as food, of course
