Elifga Valley Empty
PostSubject: Elifga Valley   Elifga Valley Icon_minitimeMon Mar 02, 2009 6:18 pm

This is my first time trying to make an area...probably my only. But now that I fleshed out my ideas on Jotun.

(Jotun)

I feel that I better explain the area they come from. Hopefully it is...clear. Sorta had trouble describing my ideas. I guess, just think Boreal Forest mountain valley. Its in the North West...think I read somewhere they had mountains. I guess this is in those mountains. It's a bit remote. Neutral

Elifga Valley

Danger Ranking: Low-Very High
Sub-Zones: Jotunsburg, The Edge, The Heights, Hendberg, Kifuka
Inhabitants: Jotun, Elves, Rangitaurs,Nagas, Humans Nekos, Snow Dryads, Mycodryads, Kensha Beasts, Duikers, Mumansi, Moss Basilik (all I can think of)

The Elifga Valley lies in the mountains in the north west. It is separated from central Felarya by the dangerous jungles of Deeper Felarya, specifically the Evernight forest. The triangular Valley itself has flora and fauna similar in ways to the regular Felaryan jungle, but with certain differences. These differences occur because the Valley is slightly colder due to its altitude and even gets a fair amount of snow in the winter. Thus, pine trees (and pine tree dryads) are more numerous here than in the regular jungle, making the valley closer to a Boreal forest. Generally, mammals are more populous than reptilian species, being a bit more suited to the cooler temperatures. There are naga, like in all other parts of Felarya, but in lesser number. An interesting fact is that a large percentage of these naga develop fire-based magic – it is believed this is a genetic trait passed through generations to help deal with cooler temperature. An equal amount simply adapt into ice elemental nagas.

The dominant predator could be considered the Jotun, although they rarely interfere if they see other predators. Jotun get along very well with some of their neighbors, like the Snow Dryads, Centaurs and Nagas. However, there is a community of Elves in the north, some who can get to predator size. The Elves and Jotun rarely get along – the elves consider the Jotun savages who prey on little Elves and the Jotun consider the Elves heartless snobs that prey on little Jotun.

The Elifga valley can only be reached by going up from the Evernight Forest, which borders the valley to the east. The pass to enter the valley is in the north, requiring one to pass through much of the Evernight Forest then backtrack slightly. However, it is rumoured the Jotun know of a more direct but steeper route. The south is near impassable due to the large canyon there, Carmine Canyon The west is a series of rising cliffs that lead up to the cold tundra. Due to this position, Elifga valley does receive a fair amount of travelers who need to pass through to get through to the tundra, for whatever reason. A few intrepid Jotun have mapped limited areas of the tundra.

Jotunsburg

Danger: Low - High (Depends how much the Jotun like/hate you)
Inhabitants: Like rest of Valley - more Jotun, less Elves

Jotunsburg is the informal nickname given to the massive collection of burrows in the East of the Valley. Jotun make their homes in burrows, caves or caverns. Often, whenever a Jotun needs a new home they simply excavate one. Thus, this area has turned into a massive city build into the mountain and underground. Jotun don’t sped much of their time underground, though. The area around the East is the best place to encounter Jotun…if you want to.

Hendberg

Danger: Very Low to Medium (Depends how much the populace likes you)
Inhabitants: Mostly human or smaller Jotun

Hendberg is actually a small valley, in the east of Efisga valley, north Jotunsberg. It is a hanging valley to Elifga valley- it is higher than the rest of Efisga valley and it's south side is a steep drop down to the rest of the valley. Because of this, predators have never been able to reach this area - at one time a portal opened in the sky and dropped a plummeting airship full of settlers here. They quickly set up a town and defied the Jotun. This only impressed the Jotun, who "adopted" the town and the people, who are called Henders.

Henders

The Henders are a faction of humans living at the north end of the Hend valley. They are a tough, tall, resourceful group of people. They are paleskinned and tend to have lighter colours of hair and blue or green eyes. Their technology is a mix adapted to Felarya. Their houses are low and made of wood, with peaked roofs for the rain. Their style of dress, architecture and culture would remind an Earth person of the Vikings. However, their technology is not at that level - they have mastered at least the steam engine and are good blacksmiths and engineers. In battle they use both rifles and axes they carry on their backs. A few of them are pretty good at making various clockwork trinkets and there is even a renowned toy-shop. They often trade these with the Jotun who are delighted at every new sort of magic that the Henders make. The Hender forges have, on occasion, worked together on a really massive project, like a sword large enough for the Jotun! They use their knowledge to help the Jotun as much as they can, in return for the protection the Jotun give. While they are an honest people, they tend to be a bit wary of outsiders, not getting many in their part of Felarya. They are content with the balance they have struck.

Kifuka

Danger: Low-Medium
Inhabitants: Elves

In the far north of Elifga valley, north of the pass into the Valley and below the Heights, is the small Elven town of Kifuka. It is comprised of a few elegant towers and buildings grouped close together, many fashioned with beautiful yellow crystals. The town is run by magic, or, more specifically, magically generated electricity. There is even an electric barrier set up around the town, as electricity is one of the few things that can stop a determined Jotun, most of which hate the elves and also consider them a tasty snack. The elves are a suspicious people, believing most travelers are trying to steal their secrets of electrical magic or are mercenaries hired by the Jotun to break the electric shield.
