Nimbus Sparrow

Height- 6 feet tall, 20 feet from head to wispy tail with a twenty foot wing span
Location- Really high up
Threat- Minimal (moderate to cloud based creatures)

The Nimbus Sparrow is a decent sized bird which resides VERY high in the clouds of Felarya and, in a short description, is a bird shaped cloud entity, similar in shape to the common sparrow. Like other clouds, it is white all over and has a fluffy texture to it, but it's feathers, talons, wispy tail, beak, head, wings and whatnot are all made of very compressed cloud matter, making them semi solid, and makes it easily identifiable from up close. They cannot change their shape or anything in that matter, but do grow in size over the years, sometimes reaching seventy feet long, and fifty foot wing spans.

This bird soars across the skies usually in V shaped flocks looking for it's primary food source- clouds. When it finds a variable source of these fluffy treats, it opens it's beak and soars right into the cloud, swallowing as much as it can hold before flying out the other end. Their hunger can be pretty hard to satiate, so a cloudy day can be a buffet to them. However, being peaceful creatures, they feed only on clouds and do their best to avoid conflict with other species. The sparrows occasionally flock to the Felaryan surface to make nests or to rest for certain periods of time. However, due to the difference in humidity and pressure, they appear as nothing more than mist to the common eye. Only when they're in the sky can they be seen fully.

One more thing to note is that this creature is called a Nimbus Sparrow because it also releases clouds from it's gaseous tail when it's full, and these clouds are of course nimbus clouds, which will rain down upon anything below. So if there's a rainy day, blame it on a few bloated nimbus sparrows. Also, during mating season, they often mate in a similar fashion to normal sparrows, but they create cumulonimbus clouds during the mating, AKA thunderstorms. And when the mating is finished, the cloud will dissipate and birth several new sparrows from the nitrogen from the lightning and the clouds combining.

So remember, if you see a lightning storm nearby, then some lucky Sparrows are showing their moves.

(tell me what you think. Sorry if this idea's been done before)

of course lighting can also come from storm sprites too right?

but still, I dont know how i feel about creatures controlling the weather instead of nature.

that will remind me of the miyazaki movies just because its wierd :/ (anyone seen nausicaa: the valley of the wind? great film Very Happy)

Well, don't worry. They can't control weather exactly. All they can really do is influence small bits of clouds and possibly make it rain. It would require hundreds of sparrows to make it flood for instance.

ah. well I like your idea ^^

not a lot has been done with sky-dwellers.

sometimes i imagine it would be awesome for some kind of material in felarya to exist that would make things float. but i dont wanna copy "castle in the sky" by miyazaki...

Cloud substance? You mean water right? Other than that I think there a nice, origonal idea. It would seem best to define them as a water elemental though as it would seem that this description fits them best.

But on the other hand, if you're going to copy, copy from the best. Smile

I agree. Miyazaki is a real genius with the brush strokes. Though I haven't seen Ponyo though.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback guys. Very Happy
