| Name: Boris Terzos
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Height: 5’11
Hair Color: Bald
Eye Color: Hidden, but are very light blue
Physical description: Boris wears a helmet that covers the upper part of his head and the back of his neck. For him to see there are three slits with pieces of blue glass covering the slits that let him see out, but hides his eyes from everyone else. The two outer slits are the actual eyeholes, while the center is actually a switch that lets him change between normal, night, and thermal visions. Below that is a mask that covers his mouth, nose, and chin, and connects to the helmet at the back of his neck, completely hiding his head. The mask is a sort of gas mask that lets him breathe in any environment. The rest of his body is covered in a black, sort of fire-retardant layer, and over that is his world’s battle armor. The armor consists of a pair of gauntlets, shoulder pads, a chest plate, a pair of boots that go up to his knees, leg guards, and a belt with a knife and sheath for close-quarters combat, all black except for the chest plate. The chest plate is black with the “Triangle of Shame” in the center (explained in History). The triangle is red with a black ‘X’ inside of it.
Personality: Boris, despite being born a third child (which is sort of a taboo on his planet) and having been looked down upon, has better self-esteem than some others that weren’t “Thirds”. He tends to stay quiet unless someone stops him or calls out his name and talks to him, or if he needs to talk to someone. He is also slightly uncomfortable around some of the half-female creatures. He believes the animal parts are actually separate creatures that are trying to eat the female part. Unless someone is talking to him, he will slowly approach the creature from behind, slowly draw his knife with his right hand, and reach for the tail with his left hand. Almost all of the time this just results in Boris getting injured for touching the person without permission. Of course, he restrains himself from doing that to something bigger, say, a Naga, but not from fear of the Naga eating him so much as the creature he thinks is attacking the female letting go of the female part and attacking him.
History: Several years before Boris’ birth, his home world’s government announced that the planet was on the brink of overpopulation. In order to prevent this, they stated that no family shall have more than two children. If a family has a third child, that child will not be treated like the others. Having more than three is outlawed, and anyone expecting any more than three children will be severely punished. Now that that little tidbit of information is known, the history might make more sense…
Boris’ parents had already had two children, a couple of girls, but they didn’t think the family would be perfect until they had a boy. They knew what would happen to him, but no matter what they would always treat him like he was one of the family and not like some animal that deserves nothing. So they decided to try for a little boy. The day Boris was born, the doctor warned about what will happen to the young boy in the future, but everyone already knew. When the whole family was seen together, they were given odd looks and dirty stares for having a third child. They were never allowed in the fancy restaurants, unless one of the children stayed at home or with a babysitter. All throughout his school years Boris was picked on and treated unfairly by the other children and the teachers. Until after his school years, Boris only knew one Third, and that was himself. When Boris turned 18, he decided to join the military. Part of the reason was because he wanted to show everyone that a third can be just as good as everyone else. The other part was because the military would take anyone without a second thought. The only thing was every Third had to wear the “Triangle of Shame” in the center of their armor’s chest plate. The only reason was so the Military could keep tabs on every Third and, in case one died, they could give a “proper” burial. They also let everyone choose what close-quarters combat weapon they would like. As long as it was one-handed and could only be used within arm’s reach of the enemy. Of all of the choices, Boris chose a combat knife. He felt that he, personally, would be better with a knife than anything else. After two years of training, a war broke out with a nearby planet. Boris’ planet invaded the enemy planet with a rather small first wave of soldiers, Boris being part of the first wave. There was speculation that this was all a trap, but the military assured everyone that their recon group reported very little activity where the wave was going to land, which was supposedly a barren field in the middle of some mountains. When the first wave landed, everyone grabbed a battle rifle and head out to search for any enemy encampments nearby. Boris had to check near some caves for anyone that might be hiding around inside of them. When he peeked in, he heard gunshots coming from behind him. He quickly turned around and readied his weapon when a bullet buzzed past his head. He crouched low and looked in the direction the bullet came from. Another bullet barely missed him. He dropped his weapon and ran into the caves to get out of the fray. While running he raised his hand to his forehead to switch to night vision when something…Odd happened. While running, he somehow ended up in a bright, forested area. He thought he was hallucinating at first, because one second he was in pitch-black cave with the only light coming from behind, and the next he is in a well illuminated forest, with no sign of the forest beforehand. He tried backing up, but after a few steps he did he bumped into a tree. He turned around to see if he could see any part of the cave he was just in, but he saw nothing but trees and vegetation. ‘Did I just escape having to fight in a war?’ Boris thought to himself, raising his hand to his chin. ‘When I find another way back, I’ll have to explain what happened. That is, IF I find another way back.’ Boris starts to pace, thinking of what to do. ‘To be honest, though, I think that was just a suicide mission, and the military knew that. I’ll have to tell everyone if I get back. But what are the chances of anyone listening to a Third? They might just laugh it off and…’ Boris stops pacing at a sudden thought. ‘Wait a minute, with how everyone treated me, I might be better off staying here, wherever here is. Perhaps there is a town nearby that can give me some information.’ With that, Boris set off in some random direction in the hopes of coming across someone that can help him.

| Peculiar reason to be shunned. If they can wage war with another world, they could colonize another planet...Humans are a weird people.
I like his view on 'half-people', that's amusing.

I think I read something...Somewhere with something similar about third children or something. I don't think it was for the same reason, though. Then again, I might have just imagined that whole thing - Quote :

I got the idea from my brother. I asked him what he would do if he met someone with a tail and he responded "First I'd try to rip that thing off. If it really was part of the person they'd probably get really pissed at me and kill me".

| NEW CHARACTER!! Enter, Poe the Librarian!
Name: Barathon II Poe the Librarian (He got bored of his original name and adapted one he found in a book.)
Nickname(s): Silvertongue
Species: Elf
Gender: Male
Age: 250, appears 23
Height: 8’ 10”
Hair Description: Short, white, spiked back (Think: Hitsugaya from “Bleach”, only slightly longer (farther pulled back)).
Eye Color: Violet
Physical description: Poe has pale skin from staying inside all day, reading books and watching over the Library. He wears a dangling earring he “found” when he read a character out of one of his favorite book. The main body consists of a cylindrical piece of silver with a small ruby embedded in the center, and the long part is a chain made up of tiny silver links. For clothing, he wears a white tunic that goes down to his ankles and has no sleeves. To compensate for having no sleeves, he wears a white robe with black trim over the tunic. He has a brown leather satchel to carry his books with him if he has to leave to go somewhere, in the library or not.
Personality: With an open book in hand, the world is dead to Poe. He has trained himself to tune out any noises while reading a book. To him, a good book in hand is worth more than his own life. Without a book though, he can talk up a storm. Mostly about books of course. Although talkative, with no book Poe looks bored and tends to lose focus if it isn’t book related.
Special Abilities/Talents: Can read things into and out of books, short stories, anything with words written on it. The only limitations are that he must speak the words aloud in order for the ability to work and the thing he reads must be longer than two sentences. (Idea credit to Cornelia Funke, specifically her Inkheart trilogy.)
History: Born and raised in Felarya, in the lovely little city of Negav, and ever since the adolescent years of ages 7 to 100, Barathon II (Or Barathon junior) has been interested in other worlds. He got to hear a little about some other worlds from the occasional passersby, but that wasn’t enough. He wanted to hear fantastic stories about triumphs and losses, life and death, love and… lost love. Not just “Eh, it was alright.” For something of real interest, he would have to, in a sense, leave the world he was born in. But according to some of the other people that came here on accident, it is damn near impossible to leave Felarya. So he became fascinated with something that could make him feel like he was elsewhere, reading. He read anything and everything he could look at.
Once he turned 80, Barathon decided to help those that couldn’t read by reading to them. He would stand around or near the Library and when a small crowd formed he would read chapters from his favorite thrilling books. It was around the fourth or fifth time he did that when he found out he had the power to read things into the real world. Sometimes he would be too into the book to pay much attention, and would sometimes read characters into the audience. Once he literally accidently read someone into the audience, giving an illiterate Neko a free meal of evil tuna. Needless to say she became a regular visitor. After about 80 years of reading aloud and maybe 50 odd guest appearances from the bad and good guys (One of which “lent” him the satchel he uses to this day), he decided he should stop reading aloud.
After turning 195, Barathon decided to apply for the perfect job for him: a librarian at the Venmys-Pieaug Library, which he lovingly refers to as “The Library”. He had heard some stories about the Library, and devised some plans to deal with the horrid Book Wyrms (One way resulted in the “accidental disappearance” of a very rude guest). Aside from dealing with Book Wyrms and the occasional stray spell from a flying book, the job was the best thing he could ever wish for. However, he felt his current name was not proper for the job. So one day looking through a book of poems, he decided to take the name of one of the authors he liked best- Edgar Allan Poe. Using the full name made Barathon feel unoriginal, so he decided to shorten it to the part that had the most feeling to it. And from then on, he insisted that everyone referred to him as Poe.
At the age of 249, Poe decided he needed a hand with some of the things around the library. He browsed through the books he always kept on and around his desk and found just the book he wanted. It was a book on ancient Greek mythology. He flipped through the pages until he got to the ones on King Minos and his maze. He scanned the pages until he found something about the Minotaur. Remembering what he has read on other minotaurs, he decided to go with the Minotaur of Crete. He made sure no one was in the library and locked the doors so he wouldn't be disturbed. He held the book up and began reading aloud, giving life to the ink and paper that described the Minotaur. When he was done, he lowered the book and there stood his new bodyguard. It was looking around and eventually stared at Poe. Poe stared back at it and smiled. "Welcome to Felarya, Aster," he said to the minotaur. The minotaur, now in a state of disbelief, widened his eyes at Poe. "H-how do you know who I am?" Aster asked. "Oh, I know everything about you," Poe said "Then why don't I?" Aster responded. Poe raised a hand to his chin and began thinking. "Probably a side effect of being read here. You'd do best to stay with me, though. Trust me, you don't want to go back." Aster gained control of his nerves and nodded his agreement. From then on, Aster was bodyguard, gopher boy, and anything else Poe needed.

| I can. Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card. And when I saw that... in the first paragraph already...
Cooler and having thought it out, I'll try not to judge you by that alone, however... I'll give your stories a chance, you deserve it, I can tell you put at least as much work as I do. Or at least, you cram as many kilobytes as I do.

| New character! Enter, Aster the Minotaur!
Name: Aster
Species: Minotaur
Gender: Male
Age: Read from his book merely a year ago, though if one could look at him and guess his age it would probably be somewhere around 30-something.
Height: 10’ tall from bottom of hooves to tip of horns when standing up-right and not looking up
Eyes: Black and beady
Physical description: Aster has golden-brown fur with a dark brown, slightly graying beard. He looks like a hairy body builder with brown horns, but he mostly uses those muscles for moving what Poe wants moved or when fighting Book Wyrms. He has a gray loincloth, two silver bangles on his wrists, and a large wooden club only he can carry and he sometimes uses to lean on when he’s bored or waiting for an order from Poe, though more of the latter. He carries his club in his hand unless he’s doing something that needs both of his hands, in which case he leaves it somewhere he won’t trip over it or knock something over with it.
Personality: Aster has two personalities. His dominant personality is rather gentlemanly. He is nice to anything and everything. His other personality is mostly for scaring away unwanted attention on Poe’s orders. He acts as if he has very low intelligence and will occasionally pick someone up or throw something at the person and miss deliberately. Sometimes, however, he can be coaxed into that mood, but it takes a lot of effort to get him into that state of emotion. Once there, it usually doesn’t take much to coax him out of it, though it is recommended to stay a few feet out of his range of fire, several feet out of his jumping range, and clear of anything climbable and capable of holding a mass amount of weight.
History: Much of Aster’s life before being read from his book is a blur. Poe keeps telling him it’s probably just a side effect of being read from the book. Aster never believes it, but that is the truth. He has been working for Poe for a year, doing heavy lifting and pest exterminations and many other things. For the first couple of months Aster was getting himself oriented with his new home. He mostly explored the safe areas of the Library, but sometimes, under Poe’s supervision, they would both go and walk around Negav. Poe never let Aster leave his sight unless Aster was doing something for him, and even then he’d turn to face that general direction. A few months after that, Aster decided to give Poe a hand with the unwelcome visitors. He gave himself an alternate personality and applied it when Poe put his head in his hands after looking at someone that walks in. Aster grabbed a book and threw it at the person that entered. When he had their attention, he let out a loud snort and turned away. After a couple minutes he turned back around and there was no sign of the person. Poe stared at him with a dumbfounded look, then asked him why he never did that before. After that, Poe just needs to look at Aster and give him a nod and the visitor is gone.

| Meh, new character. Will come into play in the next chapter when/if I ever start to work on it again. That part near the end seems familiar...
Name: C574-L947-O513-N886-E210
Species: Human (clone)
Gender: Male
Age: Looks 27
Height: 5’ 10”
Hair: Bald
Eye Color: Red, lacks pupils
Physical Description: C574-L947-O513-N886-E210 is nicely tan without looking too tan. His name/serial number is tattooed on his left arm in a special ink that lets anyone that looks at it be able to read it without having to translate it. In place of hair on his head there is a large tattoo that has no meaning to anyone other than him and his people. He wears a normally dark silver jumpsuit with matching gloves and boots that together allow him to completely camouflage himself into any surrounding whenever he needs to.
Personality: C574-L947-O513-N886-E210 acts almost like a computer, following all instructions given to him unless they are not possible to complete. He always says whatever he thinks about anything, taking mental notes all the while. He will occasionally fall to his knees and clutch his head in pain after long periods of not using his psionic abilities.
Special Abilities/Talents: C574-L947-O513-N886-E210 has all powers associated with Psions (psychokinesis, hypnosis, telepathy, etc.)
History: C574-L947-O513-N886-E210 was “born” along with thousands of other clones in the Facility located on his nameless home planet. Along with his “birth” he and the other clones were given the identification tattoos every clone must get: the serial number/name and the head tattoo that was used pretty much like a barcode, along with the disciplinary chip, eye modifications, psionic supplements, and everything else everyone gets. The process is rather painful, and thus the clones are kept in a comatose state. Any clone that wakes up during this process is not only subject to a very, very painful awakening, they are also recycled for use in the next batch of clones. During his time learning what every clone needed to know about everything, the subject of other planets came up, and he noticed the only planet without a name out of every planet discussed was their home planet. He was the first to ask why this was so, and was told they shouldn’t worry about naming anything that will expire after an amount of time but should still learn the names and locations of possible targets. He then asked why every clone was given a unique serial number, and was put through a torturous shock from the disciplinary chip for being too inquisitive. Years of learning how to act like everyone else and training in the ways of the Psion later, and the day every clone lived, worked, waited, and died for arrived: it was time to conquer another planet. Using technologies stolen from the first “advanced” civilization conquered, the home planet was propelled toward this new planet, slowing down only when it became unsafe to move faster. When all was ready, the clones left the Facility and went to all areas the enemy might send landing ships. There they waited for the enemy to come to them. While waiting, a nearby commander told C574-L947-O513-N886-E210 to go wait in a nearby cave for anyone that entered said cave. He obeyed and entered the cave, activating his built-in night vision. He figured if the enemy had some way to see in the dark like him, they would notice him without his camouflage active, and so he activated it. After waiting for a few minutes, he thought his night vision may have been malfunctioning and would have said something if it wasn’t for someone entering his field of vision. The enemy had entered the cave and was walking in his direction. He decided he should wait until they got closer to do anything, and was preparing to attack when the enemy turned and walked the other way. He was fixing to attack the unsuspecting victim from behind when gunfire was heard. The enemy ran in the direction they were originally walking, and C574-L947-O513-N886-E210 was left where he was. He already knew the outcome of this battle, and decided he might as well relax in the back of the cave. As he relaxed, he noticed the same person he just saw a second ago. Figuring he shouldn’t let the enemy get away this time, he prepared a psionic attack. Before he could unleash the attack, however, the enemy disappeared. Something such as this doesn’t usually happen, so he decided to examine the area. Finding nothing, he left the cave, feeling something could be wrong. When he got out, all gunfire was ceased. Dead bodies laid everywhere, both enemy and ally. He noticed some movement near the enemy ship and went to investigate. When he got to the ship, he felt an extreme pain in the back of his head and prepared to turn around. Before he could completely turn around, he felt another pain of slightly more strength around the same area as the last pain and he collapsed. Before passing out, he saw someone run away with a blunt looking object. He tried his hardest to keep awake, but soon he saw the darkness swirl around him and gave up, letting himself pass out, unaware that the darkness swirling around him was actually a portal to another dimension.
