| A new fauna I came up with. Decided I was sick of trying to make new characters so I thought I'd take a crack at this. I'm actually very happy with how it came out. I think I've got it balanced, interesting, and its not too out-of-the-ordinary.
This is the Riesenzwei.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Riesenzwei
Riesenzwei are large aquatic reptiles that resemble a crocodile. From the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail they are close to 200 feet. Riesenzwei are 30 feet from the tip of their belly to the top of their back. Only a fully matured Riesenzwei is this size. They are in few numbers, with at least one in each river, lake, marsh, or even in the oceans itself. Living in the oceans is not seen because they merely tolerate any salt in the water in order to catch fleeing prey. Afterwards they will return to the mainland waters.
They are most recognizable by the fact that they have two sets of jaws, one sitting on the top of the other. Riesenzwei are adaptable creatures, able to change their skin to the environment around them. In marshes they will be a shade of brown. In the murky parts of lakes and rivers they are usually a dark aqua. In the clear parts of lakes and river they are white.
They also have bright green, glowing eyes with slit pupils. It also makes them easier to spot if the Riesenzwei is hunting in the dark.
Riesenzwei bodies are massive in size with small muscular arms and legs with webbed claws. Due to their size, they feed mainly in the water. If a Riesenzwei crawls onto land and belly walks, it is very slow and prey can easily get away. Some adventurers wonder why they don’t lift themselves off the ground and gallop after them, but one encounter saw that the Riesenzwei can’t lift it’s own body-weight. If it tries too, it’s arms and legs will be crushed into dust.
Riesenzwei have small curved spikes along the top of their back extending to the tip of the tail, as well as some smaller ones on their face. These are also on the eyes. These spikes will leave a slight reflection of light, be it daytime or night. This makes spotting one easy for adventurers and other predators alike to stay away from them.
Like an earth crocodile, the tail of a Riesenzwei is extremely powerful. Capable of rendering a giant predator unconscious if struck. However, the only chance a Riesenzwei would be able to attack like this is in the water. Even then, most Felaryan creatures would be able to easily outmaneuver this attack. Therefore, the tail is mainly used to move them fluently through the waters.
Most of the body on a Riesenzwei is very durable, except for the underbelly which is their biggest weak point. If a predator is under attack from a Riesenzwei, they can continually strike from the neck and below until the Riesenzwei is rendered unconscious, or if enough force is applied, actually kill it. However, the predator has to think on their feet because if the Riesenzwei is not knocked out, it will begin its “Death Roll.”
As younglings, they will attack and consume anything they can get their jaws on. However, with age, Riesenzwei metabolism comes close to a grinding halt. Meaning, they don’t have to eat very often to keep themselves sustained. Riesenzwei never rip apart their prey, which may be why they are able to last so long without food. The Riesenzwei only eat using their lower jaws, and are able to swallow a giant predator whole. They have also been seen eating a leftover corpse.
There are two things to consider when encountering a Riesenzwei. First of all, the Riesenzwei are lazy creatures. They will only attack when they are hungry which is so rare, that some adventurers have been known to stroll right past them, look each other in the eye (in some cases touch them) and go on about their business. Second, it is time for the creature to eat and will have its lower jaws opened ready to strike. On rare occasions, if Riesenzwei see one of their young being killed, they will go into a frenzy and either attack or devour anything that is in their path. Riesenzwei are much easier to get away from or even kill in this state because they will sometimes knock themselves out by crashing into a wall.
The bottom jaw is the primary weapon of the Riesenzwei. Capable of either killing or causing a large predator to pass out with one bite. It’s strong enough to take a chunk of rock out when its scooping up sentient beings. Eating this rock actually helps break down the prey it devours. A Riesenzwei has been seen leaping out of the water, grabbing multiple beings standing on a ledge and bringing a nearby tree into the water with them. If a predator is captured in these jaws, the only chance they have to escape is to get underneath the Riesenzwei and attack its underside.
The top jaw of the Riesenzwei had always puzzled adventurers until a shocking truth was discovered. The top is used to produce sound whereas the lower one can’t. Each sound has a different meaning usually referencing an emotion. There is a very distinct sound adventurers have picked up on. It is produced whenever, a group is able to walk up next to a Riesenzwei. It is defined as a fluttering, high-pitched growl. One adventurer had seen Riesenzwei do this before but nothing happened. However, one day he saw one sitting on the bank producing this sound, but this time an even greater Riesenzwei appeared from the water. The larger one then let out a powerful call and the smaller one followed it into the water. After a few hours the small Riesenzwei crawled back onto the bank and laid an egg. The adventurer then began looking further into this behavior, seeing Riesenzwei making this sound but nothing happening. When he came across another mating encounter he saw that it was the greater Riesenzwei from before. He was determined to figure this out, thus he began his own adventure of following this Riesenzwei. Through his travels he came to one conclusion. Every Riesenzwei he had ever encountered was female. The greater one was the only male in Felarya. Why this is, he still doesn’t know, but he is determined to uncover the truth.
The male Riesenzwei, which has since then been named, Schwarze, by the adventurer, dwarfs the female Riesenzwei. He is over 100 feet longer and 20 feet taller than a female. His skin doesn’t change with the environment, but only remains black. His eyes are a glowing gold and he has a huge red tinted scar on the front of his face, extending over one of his eyes. He has many other scars, but that one was what defined him. His calls are much fiercer than the females and can be heard from quite a distance away. As he is much larger than the females, he can eat some of the larger predators meaning he doesn’t have to eat nearly as often. It was recorded that after eating a large meal, he went 90 days without having to eat again. From the look of things, it seems his prime objective is to mate with the other Riesenzwei along his path.
Riesenzwei have a series of attacks used to nullify their prey before devouring. In the water, they will charge at the prey, perform the “Death Roll”, and drive the prey into any ground surface. This causes mass amounts of pain as well as loss of breath. However, they only charge the prey when they have to give chase. Otherwise, they will simply wait for it to pass by and grab it in it’s massive jaws. When attacking a creature flying above the water, they will perform the same maneuver, but will leap out of the surface and grab them with their mighty jaws. Riesenzwei will then drag them underwater. If a predator has the Riesenzwei, it will perform the “Death Roll” once again, causing the spikes to cut at the predator and release it. For smaller beings, Riesenzwei will simply wait below the waters until it thinks it’s prey is close enough. It then raises half of its body out of the water and body slams on top of them. It will then back up and scoop up the either dead or unconscious body in its jaws. When it comes to the smaller beings, it is usually either younglings or immature Riesenzwei that attack them. Mature Riesenzwei only attack the larger beings in Felarya.
Riesenzwei usually stop attacking smaller beings when they reach about 100 feet. Any size smaller than that will take any prey it can get.
Riesenzwei skin is durable as well as magic resistant. This makes it quite sought after as armor. Though a Riesenzwei is extremely dangerous to provoke, with enough arms and firepower, even a tactical group of humans could bring one down. However, most humans are much too deathly afraid to even think about provoking a fully matured, Riesenzwei. Instead, if a mother decides to leave her offspring alone, the group will almost always go after the young. The skin is not as durable nor magic resistant, but it still serves its purpose. For when they kill the young, the mother goes into a frenzy. Thereby giving the humans a chance for it to render itself unconscious. The chance for anyone to get Schwarze’s skin is a guaranteed failure.
Young Riesenzwei don’t survive long in Felarya. Mainly due to the voracious predators around every corner as well as every sentient being trying to get ahold of their skin and meat. Riesenzwei is considered one of the best delicacies, both to predator and sentient alike. However, the young also play a part in this as they do not try to sneak around. If they see something they can get their jaws on, they will attack. When a youngling is finally full, they will ride around on their mother’s back as she traverses the waters. Sometimes they will ride on her face if she lets out a specific growl. This growl lets them know to be wary of the area around them. If a predator should attack, the mother opens up her top jaw and the younglings enter for protection. They will remain inside until the mother lets out another growl and opens up. The one thing to worry about when it comes to the younglings, is they are usually the size of a real crocodile. This means they can easily gallop on land and chase down their prey. They have been seen attacking camps while adventurers were sleeping or just sitting around the fire. However, these Riesenzwei usually don’t make it back to their mothers.

Another Fauana I've created for the world of Felarya. This one I wanted to make a little more magical than the Riesenzwei.
This is the Pazitorul.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Pazitorul
Pazitorul resemble a panther in its basic structure. They stand about 10 feet tall, and are close to 20 feet in length. They have black fur and various colored tribal designs along their face leading down to the tip of their tail. These designs will sharpen, curve and adjust to their age.
Pazitorul’s faces are stern, powerful and at the same time calming. They have one long string of hair on each side of their nose that extends past their jaw. They also have a medium sized patch of hair under their chin that resembles a goatee. Their eyebrows are small webbed spikes. Females however, do not have the goatee and the fur around its lips will be the color of their marks. Pazitorul also have slit eyes that glow blue.
Pazitorul have black scaled arms on their front legs. these scales start from the forearm down leading into large dragon-like claws. These claws have three nails extending forward and one extending back. Their back legs remained fur and resemble that of a cat all the way down to the feet. The only difference is they have one claw on each foot that extends out like a velociraptor.
On the tip of their tail is a small patch of scales connected to a stinger. This stinger is filled with acid which the Pazitorul uses to cause its opponent to hallucinate. Thus rendering it into a state of fear as most predators look at the Pazitorul and see a beast truly worth fearing. The acid can be controlled and therefore the Pazitorul is able to cause even the larger predators to hallucinate. This never comes to be as most of the humanoid predators are happy to see the Pazitorul.
Another defining piece is the purple jewel on top of its tongue. This jewel is called Umbra Mortii, and can only be found inside the Pazitorul’s mouth. It is used to devour the Pazitorul’s main source of food which are Elementals, Ghosts, and Wandering Nightmares. The Pazitorul needs to devour this magic in order to sustain itself. Usually it can get by, by simply drinking the magic enriched waters of Felarya, and in some case if an area is rich with magic, it will open its mouth and breath in what it needs. The Pazitorul will never devour the flesh of another.
The reason behind this, is because the Pazitorul can connect with intelligent beings through Psionics like telepathy. The Pazitorul can understand the languages of every creature in Felarya and even project a voice of its own inside the mind of the other. The males’ voice are usually very deep and sexy, and the females’ are very soft and beautiful. This makes Pazitorul very friendly to beings that aren’t on its food list. Pazitorul consider themselves protectors and will usually help those that come to them. Some have even known to become partners with a mage that can provide it a rich substance of magic. Pazitorul will usually try to keep the more savage beasts at bay using its stinger.
Pazitorul also have another useful talent, which can help those that get hurt. After acquiring enough magic, the saliva of a Pazitorul has acts with two functions. The first is that it will act as a painkiller, in most cases, Morphine. The Pazitorul will let out a slight drool over the wound and let it drip into the opening. The second, it will act as a blood-clotting ointment that will seal up the wound almost instantly, allowing the hurt one to travel again. The Pazitorul will continually lick the wound until the wound is covered in the thick substance.
The Pazitorul are called protectors mainly because of the care they show to the smaller beings like Humans, Nekos, Elves, etc. However, they are far from what you would call weak. If backed into a corner with nowhere to run, and no way of convincing the creature otherwise, the Pazitorul will open its mouth and release the essence of the magical beings it has eaten from the Jewel. This transforms the Pazitorul into what is called the Umbra Form. The magic beings to burn into a purple flame and enshrouds the Pazitorul’s body. In this form, it allows the Pazitorul to teleport around the opponent. The area around the Pazitorul will implode on itself leaving a small trace of smoke behind. When it reappears, it will expand again leaving another burst of smoke around it. Seeing the smoke before it expands is the only surefire way to stop the Pazitorul. The only problem is that the Pazitorul is usually teleporting quite quickly, most likely in a zigzagging form. It will continue to teleport and confuse the opponent until it can find a weak spot on its opponent. It will then usually just sting the creature with its acid. However, if the acid does not work, and this is extremely rare, the Pazitorul will have to abandon its morals and kill the beast. Though as awful as it is to watch the beautiful creature kill another, it is truly a sight to behold. The Pazitorul fights with such elegance that most don’t even realize the sheer brutality behind the wounds it inflicts on its target. The reason a Pazitorul doesn’t simply run away at this point in order to save the other creature’s life, is because it has deemed it necessary to kill. Leaving one such as this alive, would go against even its own morals.
Finding a Pazitorul is a sign a great luck. Usually, because if you can get close enough to talk to it, it will aid you in whatever adventure you are planning. Another reason, is because humanoid predators love to talk with them and hear the stories they have to tell. Not to mention their voices are very soothing just to listen too. Thus if you are traveling with one and your party comes across a humanoid predator, chance are really high that you will all survive.
Pazitorul have only been seen as a danger when greedy adventurers try to get ahold of the acid in its tail, the saliva in its mouth, the fur on its body, and the Umbra Mortii on its tongue. Of course each attempt at taking any of these was ended rather quickly. Either by Hallucination, or even Death.
Pazitorul can be found all around Felarya even though they are uncommon to come across. Most often they will reside in trees to watch for unsuspecting magical beings. They are mostly seen in the Evernight Forest and inside the Fairy Kingdom. They have also been known to live around the Jungles of Peril in order to keep the savage beasts within their limits. However, their have been dead bodies of Pazitorul seen near the edge. Possibly from being overwhelmed by the creatures that live there. There is however, a secret location that both one male and one female live in to welcome travelers. If the travelers find it, the Pazitorul there will always help them with whatever it is they need. This way there is a guarantee that travelers will have a way to seek aid from them. The only condition, is that this place must be sworn to secrecy and only told about to those who truly need their aid.

Yet another new fauna. This time I wanted to make something that could take to the skies. Also I wanted to make a creature that was much more threatening and relentless. These creatures are also seen in Legacy
This is the Nero
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Nero
Nero are large, black, featherless birds that roam the night skies in huge numbers. They stand about 6 feet tall when on the ground, not including the crest on their heads. From the tip of their mouth to the tip of their tail they are 23 feet long. Each wing is about 10 feet and are situated on their back.
The first thing to remember about Nero is that they are not native to Felarya. They originally came from the Auriferous Galaxy in a another dimension. They lived on the small planet of Skole, situated deep on the outskirts of the galaxy. The planet is too far out to receive any light from the galaxy’s main light source, therefore the entire planet is enshrouded in darkness. It is believed that these creatures came to Felarya when Lord Torah attempted to end Evil’s life. When the dimension started ripping apart, there must have been a small swarm that flew into the rift and after a long distance traveled, ended up in Felarya. However, during the travel many were incinerated when the rift sucked up the fire of the explosion. Luckily, there were just enough to begin reproducing once they took up living in Felarya. Since that day, Nero have grown large in numbers able to take to the skies and overwhelm their prey once again.
The head of a Nero is very peculiar. They have no visible eyes but can easily spot and hunt prey in the dead of night. It is believed that a Nero’s eyes are actually inside of its own head, with a translucent layer of skin covering them. The downside of a Nero’s eyes is that light obscures their vision on a tremendous level. In the daytime, a Human could walk right up to one and wave their hand in front of it’s face and the Nero wouldn’t see it. I would not recommend this though. A Nero has a large spiked crest on it’s forehead, which it uses to smash into it’s prey while dive bombing, usually rendering the prey immobile. These crests change when they mature. This is a good way to spot which Nero are the most dangerous. They have smaller spikes on their cheeks and one on their chin. A Nero’s mouth isn’t large, but it is capable of opening wide enough to fit a Human’s head in it. Inside its mouth are two rows of large teeth, all of which are as sharp as daggers. The Nero’s head is attached to an elongated neck that allows it to see in multiple directions much easier. The neck also has small flaps that resemble gills, that will shift when the Nero produces sound. These sounds range from a high-pitched screech, to a low crackling. Since entering Felarya, they have been able to produce a sound that will allow them to travel through the daytime, much like the way bats use a sonar. After all, they had too otherwise they’d simply crash into the many obstacles that the land has.
The body of a Nero is lightweight despite it’s size. If a Human is feeling gutsy, one might actually be able to bring a Nero down with it’s bare hands. This is also not recommended. The Nero’s spinal column extends out of it’s back like a row rounded off spikes. This extends to the tip of it’s tail. The Nero’s ribs are also exposed.
Nero’s legs are situated in the center of it’s body to keep it’s balance. The claws on it’s feet are large and sharp. Strong enough to hold a Human in one claw and sharp enough to rip through armor. The feet have three claws in the front and two in the back. Nero usually use these claws, while in the air, to rip apart their prey to make them easier to devour. This only happens if another Nero tries to take the other’s prey. The knees are bent backwards like a bird’s, and have a small spike on it.
Each wing is about 10 feet long, and bend back from the halfway point. On this point are three sharp claws used to slash at it’s grounded prey. On some occasions, a Nero will walk around on all four sets of it’s claws. The two on the wings and the two on the legs. Nero’s wings are powerful and only need to flap once to lift itself off the ground and soar through the air. This makes the Nero able travel at very high speeds, meaning that most of it’s prey doesn’t even know what hit them.
As useful as it’s claws are, the most effective weapon a Nero has is it’s tail. The tail alone is almost twice the size as it’s body. On the end of it, is a sharp 2 foot stinger. Nero usually use this to hook into their prey if they miss with their feet. On the ground, Nero will raise their tail over their body and use it like a scorpion. Chances of survival when a Nero has raised it’s tail is slim to nothing.
Nero are in a sense nocturnal hunters. However, this does not make them any less dangerous when it is daytime. This is because Nero do not sleep. The reason behind this are unknown, but when encountering a Nero during daytime, caution is still advised. Many adventurers have met their ends messing with a Nero they thought was asleep.
Nero got their name for many reasons. One is that they originally lived on a planet completely covered in darkness. Another is that they can only really function when their is no light. They also got the name from being completely black. However, the reason that really defines them was when they entered Felarya. As the swarm has been seen eclipsing the light of the moon. The swarm can range from 50 to 100 of these creatures.
When hunting in the swarm, it is a safe bet that whatever they encounter will meet its end. However, Nero are not near as invincible as they seem. A bullet alone is capable of killing one of these creatures. They are also quite weak against all types of magic. Meaning anything well versed in the arts of magic can easily defend itself against a swarm. During a swarm attack, they are actually much more timid and will only make killing blows when they can guarantee it themselves. This usually occurs when one of the more matured Nero will rush an opponent and knock it too the ground. Afterwards, the prey is never seen again. One particular move adventurers have told of, was what they called, “Tempesta Nera.” Otherwise known as, the Black Storm. The Nero will circle the prey in a tornado and quickly rise high in the air. Once the last Nero has reached the top, they will dive bomb the prey, smash it into the ground and quickly fly off the body, tearing at it with it’s claws before the next Nero behind it takes it’s turn. There have actually been times in which a prey will survive this attack. These cases are extremely rare. Blink was one of these cases. After the first few times of hearing about this, Nero have been listed to be killed on sight. Thus the population has been greatly reduced, to a swarm consisting of a minimum of 10 Nero.
In the end, this was an even greater mistake. The swarm was devastating as it was, but the most frightening Nero is one that will hunt alone. These Nero will stalk prey and without being heard. Peculiar, is that the Nero will sometimes make loud hissing and growling sounds to makes it’s prey uneasy. Yet despite these sounds, the Nero will easily get right on top of it’s prey without them ever knowing it was there. The single Nero is relentless and will never stop attacking until it’s prey is dead. These have even grown in size compared to the swarm Nero and have begun producing a new styled crest that glows at the tips of the spikes. It is likely that these Nero have begun evolving due to the nature of Felarya. These Nero have also been known to be much more durable then the swarm Nero. Able to take much more damage and resist magic much easier. The only good thing to come from these Nero, are the fact that they are still low in number. Only four have been recorded seen.
Nero never devour their prey on sight. They will take their meal back to their nest and partake there. Most Nero usually live within the Evernight Forest due to the fact that they need to be in darkness to see. Some have been seen near the Tenebra Maze and sometimes inside. Stalker Nero have been seen in the Jungles of Peril, the Sunfall Thicket, The Green Hell and in the Evernight Forest.
Just remember when encountering a Nero, to use any light that you can to your advantage. Be it controlling a powerful flame, to using a simple flashlight. Whatever you can use to distort it’s vision, is the best chance of survival you have against one of the savage creatures.
