Things being catagorized as minor races....

Why the minor race sections even exist perplexes me, it is just further encouragement for new users to grab the already most commonly used species off of the main races page. So, the other things remain ignored and the same seven or so species are used to the point of near singularity. If you were a bright eyed newbie, fresh into the Felaryan community and wanting to make your own character, what would you pick? One of the less commonly seen creatures off the two minor races pages, or a naga or dridder off the main race section? Personally, I would've probably done the later if put into that position.

You see how this works? It creates a vicious cycle: Minor races are said to be minor based upon a basis of usage, however, they are used even less because they are hidden in their own ignored little sections. Meanwhile, the "basic" species, such as nagas, dridders, fairies, ect, only grow in rate of use, producing severe lack of variety while at the same time creating even less opportunity for the "minor" races to receive any attention.


As such, it is my personal suggestion that the wiki be altered to group all canon species onto a simple, fair, "Races page." That way everything is laid out before everyone and the likelihood of (Currently) "minor" races being utilized will (In theory) increase as a result.

I like the idea of a single source for all races, although it hits one little snag: some of the more developed races are almost as long as the entire first page of minor races. If page 1 of Minor Races has met its maximum size, imagine trying to stuff multiple developed races on one sheet.

I'd say that at the very least, each race should be given their own page, while a single race page is created that has a little flavor text for each race along with a link to the main page of your desired race.

Ahhh yes. The size issue never occurred to me. Your idea does a fair bit twords solving that though.

i think is because the more developed races each have more than just one type of that race. If the minor races could get more than just the one type, we'd be able to develop them a little more. Scorpsais only have one type where as a Naga far two many to be needed. Hell even some of the Naga types aren't even used. It all boils down to who is willing to develop a good type for that race and actually word it well enough to work with the rest. Basically we got some thinking to do to makes these minor races more developed.

Subspecies /=/ development.

Really, the right way to go about this is to flesh each race out equally. Squamataur entry as long as chlaenas? Hard mode.

I guess if we're not going to flesh the minor races out to that extent, there is no use grouping them with the major races anyway.

Yeah, this would be a preferable solution.

Also, a keyword to this is "minor" which means they probably aren't seen too much.

Miaxi are generally less seen than dridders for example. Also, more stories would be floating around that involve the major races, thats why they are "major".

My point is that it's probably organized no just for our convenience but also into the category of what makes sense for the world in and of itself.

well there is certainly minor races that can be turned into full races and have been over time. but currently I don't see any that would qualify for it...
Maybe Ghosts because they involve many type of creatures, and giant and giantesses because there is quite a few characters of that race.

As for putting all races into one page, this is just impossible.. the wiki have severe size restrictions ^^;

You'd think giantesses would be as numerous as nagas. I mean, they're essentially scaled-up voracious women, so you'd think they'd be just as big of a Sue-magnet as the naga race. :T

Actually, minor races sometimes get "promoted" to major ones because people use them a lot. Slug girls started out as a "minor" race, I think, before they became popular. Likewise, tinies used to be listed as "minor", but they now have their own page, due to having been used more frequently in stories.
