More brutal meiramines?

I've been thinking about the portrayal of dolphin people in Felarya, and while it is good to see that they can be as playful as they are mean spirited, wouldn't it be more logical if being what they are, they were even meaner?

Even if it's not always the norm with them, dolphins in real life do have a reputation for being sadistic little bastards. They not only are strong enough to kill sharks, but also will readily kill babies of their own kind and other porpoises just for kicks. And they are known to gang rape lone individuals and attempt it on humans, no matter the gender on either

It may not be as extreme, but i personally think giving meiramines these traits would make them more interesting and dolphin-like, not to mention it would further break the image of cute and cuddly dolphins the media shoves down our throats XD

For starters, the idea of Meiramines came to me by a fish who spits jets of water in Yoshi's Island. Also, think about it, would you want to read a story that shows Meiramines killing their own just for the lolz and even raping people? Can you fathom a mental image like that? That would give them a view as cruel and monsters and not sapient, keep in mind, SAPIENT, creature with a different reasoning than a human. Also, who said that Meiramines only pull of harmless pranks. Yes, they could be more cruel such as, you know, knocking a human off a boat and then use it as a toy, but raping and killing their own babies? Dude, that's just sick and wrong!

I never said they made harmless pranks for starters...and it's not like sapient creatures CAN'T be cruel.

It was just a suggestion for the sake of realism, really. Just like with the deal of predators eating children. You can't mentionit if you don't like it, but doesn't change the fact it happens

It's the raping part! You pretty much suggested the Meiramines become a race of rapist. Have you heard of Acceptable Breaks from Reality? Yes, I know you read TVTropes, yes, I know it's for video games. But those ideas are just sick. Vivian's horniness is played for jokes, yours was serious. Plus, I'm sure Vivian doesn't ambush a giant then violates it. Why would she need to? She just charms men and then she can have her way because the other one is complient.

It's still raping and beating up their own kids. Make that something that happens semi-frequently for a race and the first thing people will think is that they're horrible beings. You should have suggested that their pranks are often seen as mean, sometimes borderline sadistic, and it would have been good. You worded it as they would rape or kill their children more readily than any other creature.

That's what ALL predators do, almost. You don't need to state the obvious. And now I'll be told "You're being agressive!", but look how the first post is worded. How can one not think "Is he suggesting that Meiramines rape people often as part of their race?" and not get upset?

As if raping people was any worse than devouring and digesting them whole and alive to begin with.

And if you had actually done some research regarding dolphins (which they ARE based on, like it or not) you would have seen this was only the logical thought

Would anyone in their right mind put "rampant raping" as part of a race? Also, if you've got a problem with those, why don't you have a problem with other races who are inaccurate with their real life counterpart?

It's still him saying "This is in real life, it should be with their counterparts" when there are other races like that. He could have just said that meiramines would have a more twisted and cruel sense of humor and leave it at that. The mere mention of rape will instantly trigger a negative reaction from anyone who reads it. It doesn't matter if it's toned down in practice or not, the mere mention will cause people to complain.

Who's complaining? in terms i didn't take it too serious to the fact that it made me mad because i thought up of cross species difference being different 'then what we know' as human. if they do that let em. Some human may come blow the shit out of them for that reason. mainly because its somewhat unreasonable (maybe even unethical) to our understanding as humans. but i get your jest. it can be offensive when thinking like that.

I know some creature rapes, hell, humans rape, but that should be at the discretion of the CHARACTER, not a race's trait.

I vote we all calm down before this gets too far out of hand.

No it isn't! Look, I can understand that you want to make them more sinister, but adding conscious rape and familicide as semi-regular occurances as part of an entire race's premise, is not only ludicrous, but offensive! Rape, in its purest form, is the complete and utter violation of a person's privacy and body. It's an act, along with familicide, that destroy the lives countless individuals each year. Even if you want to pass it as instincts, Meiramines are capable of thinking for themselves, make their own choices, and evaluate right from wrong. They would have a degree of pragmatism that, under ration thoughts, rape and familicide would bring neither immediate, nor long term gains. It makes no sense that they would do this more often than any other race is capable of.

Maybe you meant, "Let's make Meiramines a bit more sinister to mock Hollywood shoving his view down out throat", but the way you worded was so bad that it could be interpreted as "encountering one would often result in your body being violated."

You can't translate EVERYTHING from the real counterpart. Some aspects must be lost in translation. How you worded your intention was highly insensitive.
