| Well, I was bored and messed around with the Mary-Sue litmus test.
http://www.ponylandpress.com/ms-test.html
I decided, out of curiosity, to test some of my characters.
Out of further curiosity, I made this thread, so that people can post their own character's results. I am not trying to create a witch hunt (er, Sue hunt). But its an interesting way to reflect on your characters and the creation process as a whole.
--
My Character's Scores, highest to lowest.
Fulmina - 7 Grip - 6 Shillou - 5 Fenja - -1 Kallinix - -7
Lawl. Kallinix wins for the least Sue-ish, but being not exactly a "person" per se, and thus exempt from many questions, I think he has an unfair advantage.

| I tried it with my most sue-ish character, Bane, and got a score of 25. Seeing as this is the "average", all my other characters must be pretty good. | |

| I tried with Thane. The result was 19 or 22, depending on whether I answered yes to a question concerning something minor in the plot which I was undecided on. I'm going to remove it now that I realise it's a sue trait. | |

| @ AJ - Don't! It's just a silly test, don't be afraid to stick with your plot even if the test disses it! | |

| Well... I guess. Also, this test is quite good in my opinion. Thane scored 4 on the test. (ie: not sue). | |

Bad. Higher scores mean closer to Sue territory.

| Litmus test- Marcel: Scored 25 points. Borderline sue for him. - Spoiler:
Three ticks already and I didn't get past the name. Marcel's an unusual name in Felarya, but I wouldn't use it if I didn't really like it, and it's a foreign name because it's a french name and the guy's Norwegian. 3 points. He's very attractive without having to work at it, and he's mortal but looks much younger than he actually is... hmm... is he above average intelligence? I'll tick it just in case. And... he's not in Oslo anymore, so he's been estranged from his country... does his coming count as an abduction? Let's try to be on the safe side here and tick it. He also feels bad about stuff that happened... 13 points already. He's very accomplished, he's been 26 years on the jungle, that's not too shabby. Felarya makes him fluent in all languages, so... they're more than four... he's traveled extensively, since he's a mercenary, and he's educated when Negav's not known for its educational services, so... well, he's not a monk, priest or scholar either. He's lost fair and square a number of times, though, and because of sheer goddamn luck. He also has a temper the size of Alaska, and it gets him in trouble. Besides, he's got nearly no empathy for other people- not where it counts at least, so I won't tick that. I'm already 16 points there. One of the best he is at his job, and he can kill stuff with his hands, not to mention the martial arts. They're not normal in Felarya, though. 22 points already. Now, as for immortality- he's immortal, like everyone in Felarya, and I guess he does count as extremely powerful.
Litmus test- Elsie: 14 points. Lol. She's less of a sue than Marcel is! - Spoiler:
Elsie works hard at being pretty, first. Also, she's the lone survivor of her family, and she's living on the other side of the world from her original location. She's angsty about her past, and will angst about it in the future... not to mention giant predators usually can't read. She loses a lot against dumber people, too- and she's got quirks in common with me. She's also got a temper the kind of which isn't helping her case, not to mention a lack of empathy and being selfish, manipulative and sadistic. She's also good at cooking silly stuff despite being primarily a hunter-farmer... and to say I ever agree with anything she does would be a lie. She's also exceptionally powerful for her race, as in "immortals"- since she's 130 foot tall, lol. She also willfully commits murder- repeatedly, and yes, she's been nursed back to health by a kind, loving, caring person. Now, I was very surprised when someone didn't like it, whether I like it or not, that adds points.

| I tested my character Valdas
got a 14 on the Universal Mary-Sue test
got a 15 on the Original Fiction Mary-Sue test
Funny, I thought he'd get higher scores than that.

I disregarded that because it's not part of the character, it's part of the world. - Quote :

Are you answering the questions honestly? I figured it's mostly because he's not human. Most of the questions didn't even apply.

| Aisu - 30 ...Damn, that's pretty high... Probably a lot better than when I first conceived of "Aisu" long before I joined Felarya; I was a lot more shameless back then. >__>;
Ruby - 21 ...Also pretty high D: Surprisingly lower than Aisu, though.
Olive - 8 ...Not bad, I think. I expected worse.
Stark - 4 ...Man, I reeeally thought he would be one of my higher ones :B
To be expected, right? The characters I created earlier in my writing career are significantly more Suish and all that?

Are you answering the questions honestly? Indeed, remember that taking the test to take into account Felarya - so knowing all languages and being "immortal" is normal. Also, perhaps just posting results for the original test? Both are cool, but if you use just the first one then characters could be easier compared and such...

| I remember testing my characters with this.
Most scored 20 and under. But I guess that was because this is more tailored to magic using OCs. Though thankfully the main ones I created recently didn't score over 10.

| Zion got a 69 (hur hur hur!), which I'm not surprised by. The fact that he's a thinly-disguised self-insert kinda hurts there. However, the test is rather flat, and can't possibly take everything into account. Such as the fact that while he does have an excessive amount of abilities and skills, this is only because of a deep-seated sense of insecurity that drives him to attain knowledge and power. Or that his handsomeness is once again due to his insecurity and self-loathing, and is the result of extensive surgery and modifications. Plus, an Anti-Sue is actually pretty Sue, in the same way it's cliche to hate cliches.
I used Zion's Gehan origins for the "is he well-known for..." questions, since in Felarya he's practically anonymous. If I used him in Felarya, the score would probably be lower.
Also, I'll take it for my other characters when I'm not in math class like I am now.

| Let's see... Kyria: 18 (Non-Sue). The fact she's mute has influenced this score. Taking in account this was my first Felaryan character... well, it could have been WAY better, but it could have been WAY worse too. Seelvee: 4 (The Anti-Sue). Well, that wasn't surprising... nothing in her is Marysue-ish. Nanda: 5 (The Anti-Sue). Neither this one was... nothing to base her on anything that would lead to a Mary Sue. Grigor: -1 (The WTF). Wait... is a negative score even possible?! Man, Grigor could go by himself and kick some Mary Sue and Gary Stu ass. xD Lorne: 4 (The Anti-Sue). Meh, just being a crazy wizard looking for knowledge is enough for being an anti-Sue. Yuritza: 9 (The Anti-Sue). Well, a half-elf ranger out of her world isn't a big deal for this test. Mel: 4 (The Anti-Sue). Another character that is nowhere near Mary Sue standards... and she's a damn neko!! Ruina: 24 (Borderline Sue). Being the last of her clan - though this doesn't affect her personality aside from her proud - and a succubus skyrocketed the score! O_o Oh well, with more character development, this will go down... this also means I've got worse at character creation. | |

| That's my personal opinion, but I think a Non-Sue is better than an Anti-Sue. By necessity, the protagonist(s) must be special to justify its role as the main character(s). The Anti-Sue sounds like that it's so safe as to make the character generic and kind of bland. The biggest problem with Mary Sues, IMO, is that people take the special part to a point where their presence is distracting and overpowering. | |
