| Name: Dr. Cornelius Pyren Species: Human Age: Assumed to be 172 Sex: Male Height: 6 ft 5 in Skin colour: fair Hair colour: Reddish-Orange Eye colour: Green Accent: Russian Other characteristics: A black scarl under his left eye
Pyren was a respected sorcerer and scientist that used to live in an alternate dimension, constantly studying every subject he could find. At one point in time he was able to devise a spell that he hoped would make him immortal and tried to cast it on himself. The spell backfired, creating an inter-dimensional rift that sucked him into Felarya. The spell didn’t exactly fail, and it granted him agelessness, but at the cost of him having to drink a special potion every new moon in order to avoid a very agonizing transformation into a man-bat like creature. For many years since he has been attempting to find a counter spell to reverse the effects, but you know what they about alchemic bonding with proton acceleration… then again, you probably wouldn’t. To make sure he was at least comfortable during this time he used his magic to build an elaborate medieval castle deep in dridder forest.
Abilities: Dr. Pyren is an extremely intelligent individual, inventing devices and magical items beyond reckoning. He is also a genius in multiple fields of mathematics, science and magic. His true talents are displayed in a form of spell casting called psychokinesis, a more physical version of telekinesis where you must exert your mind and your body to move and manipulate objects or people without even touching them. He has perfected this form so much he considers himself "the master of movement", even developing a 2ft wand that hides a retractable sword blade and acts as a medium for his magic abilities. His strongest move is a psychokinetic shockwave. The attack at full strength can blast a giant off its feet, but it will drain the crystal that powers the wand, so he uses the move as a last resort. His abilities in the fields of traps and telekinetic magic are great enough that he has deceived the local dridders into thinking that he alone is an army of spirits surrounding the castle where he lives.
Personality and Relationships: Because of his high intellect, Pyren is proud, very sarcastic, andan arrogant individual who talks down to anyone he comes across, considering them “primitive” or “less intelligent”. His arrogance also makes him unable to admit that he can make mistakes. While his home is dridder forest, Pyren likes to explore and survey the rest of Felarya and has made contacts with many of the locals in case he needs information (Anna is rumored to be one, but he denies this claim) He is hated by the Victorian dridders that live in the forest after an incident at the last Hallows Eve Ball hundreds of years ago, but the details are sketchy at most. It was rumored he that once had a relationship with the current dridder queen Claire; but both deny it, however Clair respects the good doctor despite her dislikes of him. Even so, they can be seen in heated debate whenever they cross paths. He does have a soft side on rare occasions, giving advice to travelers and magicians passing by and rescuing those caught by dridders (since he doesn’t get along with them anyway).

| Actually, this was all put together quite nicely. The one thing preventing me from fully getting behind this though is the fact that he simply seems too powerful an entity in himself. To be able to dwell in relative comfort in an area inhabited primarily by a predatory species is indicative of abilities beyond that of the majority of other creatures and individuals. The central issue with an overpowered character, even a well written one, is that is simply makes realistic conflict almost impossible to write unless he is matched against an even more powerful being. This complaint is put off a bit though because it is clear that he is not perfect in every regard. Personality wise, he seems a bit dry though due to the association of power and negative personality traits such as arrogance and pride being all too frequent. I will say though that establishing a balance can take much time and effort.
You might want to set aside some time to get a few things sorted and to add in additional material. There is potential here that has yet to be tapped into. | |
