Wiki Reorganization?

I've checked it, and yes, the main page looks way better (not only because of it having a good pic Subeta xD), now the wall of text is much smaller, the little menu works fine... Good job.

Just noticed it as well. Nice to see everything less cluttered than it used to be!

Thought maybe the map image is too big, it would work better if it was a bit smaller and you could see the links to the locations right away

Indeed, I was about to suggest the same thing as slimetoad.

Images are important, but they should never get in the way of text. The characters page is an example of this. When it loads, the first thing users see is a large image, there's no text, no information right under the eyes.

There's a way of resolving that, and I think Karbo's already working on it.

Indeed, I have noticed that images are now positioned to the right of the page, rather inline with the text. It's a good solution.

Mhh I hear you but the problem is we are speaking about category pages here. That means that if I put the image as a small thumb to the right of the page, what I get is a big blank next to it, with the the text still coming after. Thus not making the page any more easy to read.
The solution would be to remove the pictures for category pages altogether but I'm not really for it..

Karbo, I can understand why you want to keep the images there, but category or listing pages list links to information and content, not the content itself. Images are content, and as such are a secondary consideration when it comes to these pages.
There should be a way to keep the images there, but until one is found, let's not let the images compromise the layout of the pages.

Oh, one idea regarding the map on the wiki.

Does the wiki support the HTML thingy where you can set certain portions of the image as links? If so, perhaps on the location page, we could make it so if you click on a certain location on the map, it'll take you to the page of that specific location. Of course, they could be a fair bit easier with a flash app like the one Byoki made a while back, if the wiki supports that.

Aisu, you are talking about imagemaps.
MediaWiki does support them, but I don't recommend their use. They are a bit of a pain to code and considering that you can achieve the same thing and more with flash; I regard imagemaps as a waste of time.

Fair enough, not all ideas can be good one, afterall ^^;

To Karbo, perhaps shrink/crop/reconfigure the images on the categories so that they don't dominate absolute attention when they are visited.

That would be a great thing to have of course but sadly I'm not really sure how to implement it. There is two problems here.
The first one, and that Bioky encountered, is that the flash would have to use the jpg of the map which make it's final size very big for a flash applet ( more than 2mo )
And the second one is that for now I must operate within the bound of what is editable. And integrating such an applet would require to install some extensions I think.
I'll ask Elportero to make some core upgrades of the program itself and install extensions at some points but I don't want to overburden him with that.

I have the opposite recommendation: use HTML features over Flash features. This is because Flash (and Silverlight and Java) are not available for all platforms, because they are "heavy" (they have a substantial megabyte "cost" to them), and because Flash/Silverlight/Java are overpowered for what needs to be done here, which is just to link parts of a map to websites.

Sorry, I should have made myself clear: Imagemaps aren't something that are used that often anymore, because there are far better ways of achieving the same thing, (flash was just an example, I believe that you can map sections of an image to URLs using divs and CSS).
I don't consider imagemaps worth the time. Just have the map be a normal image.
