(My friends, you are about to meet what I like to call a shadow siren. For more information see here.)

One of the mercenaries, who couldn't seem to find his sleep, awoke to a sound outside. He opened his eyes and saw a shadow against the tent he was in; a woman's figure as if she was wearing a tight dress. He attempted to say something to her, but when he did so, she seemed to be frightened and ran away. The man got up and left his tent, and saw once again the shadowy figure, over by some trees. He assumed it was just because it was nighttime, and walked over to her, but as he got closer, something seemed more and more off about her. She didn't seem to have any feet, or legs for that matter. In fact, her entire lower body seemed to be connected to the ground. Her skin seemed to be purple in colour, and her hair shimmered yellow as if being illuminated from the inside. "Excuse me, miss," the merc said to the woman. "But you shouldn't be out here at night. It's dangerous."

The woman replied, "You don't know the half of it, sir."

Suddenly, the woman's left arm shot down into the ground, as if disappearing into the shadow, and a giant version of it burst up from the ground just as quickly, catching the unsuspecting fellow in it's grip. It then dragged him down into the darkness before returning to the woman's body with him in tow, her hand back to it's original size, and him caught shrunken within it. She proceeded to toss the merc into her mouth and swallow him down with a gulp, before turning her attention to the rest of the tents.

Despite being offered a place in one of the tents with the others, Mort declined and instead decided to sit against a tree and watch the camp. He didn't like the idea of being in an enclosed space that was so easily liftable. He had heard stories of preds lifting up entire buildings and shaking the terrified occupants out and into their mouths, like bitesize snack packs.

Then, he saw a woman venture into the camp. She seemed to blend with the shadows. Mort wasn't interested in who she was or why she was here. That was the job of those idiotic mercs. He watched her idly with his right eye as one of those aformentioned mercs emerged from his tent, walked over and spoke to her.

Suddenly, she plunged her hand into the ground, grabbed the shocked and shrunken merc and gulped him down before he could even react. Well... this was new. He had seen quite a few things during his time here but shadow women preds were definitely new. He stood up and calmly walked towards her, clapping quietly so as not to alert the others.

"Bravo! Quite an impressive display there. That poor bloke never saw THAT coming did he? Oh wow that was hilarious."

Mort stretched, his back still achey from leaning against the tree.

"Planning to eat some more are you? Don't let me stop you. Preds gotta eat and all that. Mind you, there is this partcular neko woman that would go down a treat, if you want my personal reccomendation."

He chuckled to himself and then prepared for what ever her reaction might be.

(Just so you guys know, I'm gonna wait till Nyaha or Krisexy post first then I'll post ^^)

Alessia waited for her moment to attack. When she heard that Mort was stupidly giving her away, she unseated her sword and, with a calm and precision that was way unhuman, she jumped.

She was about to cut in half the strange creature when, at the last moment, it spotted her and disappeared in the void, reapparing few meters away from Alessia.

Immediately, Alessia stood up and put her sword back in its sheath. She then turned to Mort and spoke, with the same neutral tone as always.

"It's a shadow siren. We stand no chance until sunset. We better run. But..."

She withdrew a knife from one of her many pockets. She pushed Mort against a tree and immediately threw her knife. It didn't pass through his head, no, it simply perforated his shirt and deeply pierced the tree trunk. She looked at him in the eyes and merely smiled at his condition.

"Stay there, occupy the shadow siren while I go save everyone. May you die in peace. Farewell."

On these words, she left poor Mort, stuck there, about to face his ultimate moment.

Mort stood pinned to the tree, struggling futilely against the dagger. I guess thats karma for trying to get shadow woman to go after that neko. He looked at the" shadow siren", was that what the neko said? It seemed that she had noticed his predicament too.

"Well darling its just you and me. Its less comfortable than I thought but still the show must go on! Go eat the bloody neko will you? Shes quite the nuisance."

He struggled harder and harder against the dagger but he couldn't reach it to pull it out.

"Don't worry you can have me for desert. I'm not going anywhere."

Goddamn that neko! He thought she would be a problem but immobilising him in front of a hungry pred wasn't what he thought she would do...

Regardless, it seemed he was now at the mercy of the shadow siren. Well... he wasn't exactly dominant before. But now he was food on a stick. But maybe she would listen to him and come back to him later. Hopefully by then he will have gotten free. Hopefully...

As Shadow walked back to the camp he felt something a little off with every step he took. Then he saw something against a tree moving. What is that? He thought. As he got closer he realised it was that man who decided to join them. He sighed "I knew this group was strange but I never expected something like this to happen..." He said to himself. He ran up to the one stuck against the tree, but he stopped running he felt something like there was some one here. I don't like the feel of this, I think i'll just help him down As Shadow came closer he decided to hide behind a different tree. He wanted to see what was going on before he helped.

Meanwhile Ed seemed he got back into the camp without anyone seeing him. Ok just keep calm and play along... He thought. "Hang on, I am sure we had a few more people here." Ed said calmly. He walked and looked around the camp for a bit, seeing if he could find the people who looked like they were not in the camp. As he checked around he could see something, he was'nt sure what it was but he opened a small bag he had with him and he got out some binoculars. He looked through them but all he could make from what he seen was a shadow of a person. "Hmm... I think i'll let somebody else investigate that. If anything happens to me my effort would be in vain." He smiled.

(I a little upset that Krisexy took control of my character, even if it was just a little action. I'll let it slide this time, though. )

The shadow woman was extremely p[erplexed at what was going on. These people seemed to be giving eachother up to her in an attempt to get rid of one another. Maybe they were married? Just as she was thinking about what to do with the man stuck to the tree, she heard another person come their way. She watched as he hid behind a tree; it didn't seem like he saw her yet. She decided that she didn't like the neko who'd just run away, and copnsidered sparing the man on the tree in the hopes he'd be able to get back at her. On the other hand, why should she ignore a free meal? The shadow siren thought about it for a short time, then decided on the former idea. A third hand extended from under her right arm and pulled the knife loose from the bark, freeing Mort. "You people confuse me, so I'm going to let you go and hope you don't occupy my thoughts," the siren said to him. "Oh, and good luck against that neko. The unfriendly types are always hardest to get along with." In a way, she sympathized with him. Not having friends can be a difficult thing to live with. Forgetting about the other man who'd hidden behind the tree, she moved out into the open where he could clearly see her.

Mort sighed in relief. That neko never expected THIS to happen did she? She put him in grave danger and she would pay the price. She doesn't even know it, but she just got on the wrong side of a very sadistic man. She'd pay alright. Really slowly...

But first there was the matter of thanking his unlikely rescuer.

"Phew, you had me in the palm of your hand just then. I am grateful for your help. Don't worry. I'll make that neko pay for what she did."

He walked up to her, put one arm around her and looked at the camp.

"We have to stick together, people like us. Hated by the world. Feared by all. Its lonely isn't it?"

Staring off into the distance for a few seconds he snapped back to reality.

"So shadow girl. You got a name? It would be nice to know the name of my rescuer. I'm Mort."

After Langsley's walk with Julius, they returned to the camp where Julius immediately sensed that something was wrong. Just as they were about 100 yds away from the camp, he held back the professor and scanned the area with his purple left eye. "Wait... something's wrong... there are only 4 mercenaries and the rest of our group is near... some sort of shadowy being" His eyes widen as his vision closed in on the shadowy girl. "Oh no... she ate one of the mercs! He's in her stomach Professor Langsley! What do we do?!" he said as he started to panic.

Langsley simply scoffed and contacted the tent where the mercs were sleeping. "Wake up you lazy neanderthals... your friend just got eaten by a pred just a few meters from here, go kill her" he ordered with impatience.

The mercs woke up with shock at the news of their comrade being eaten. Enraged, they quickly geared up and ran over to the shadow siren's location.

Julius was shocked at what Langsley did. "But sir! You can't expect them to take on that pred!"

"I know..." Langsley replied. "I don't trust them anymore than I can trust tax collectors... but right now, they can offer a good distraction while we keep moving to the temple, grab our gear, we're heading out"

"B-But... we can't just leave them to die!" objected Julius.

"I know it's a hard decision for you kid, but let's face it, at the moment, you can't do anything to help them, plus they seem eager enough to risk their own lives to fight" said Langsley with a smile. "Let's go." And with that the professor grabbed anything that could help defend himself and left with Julius, who was having a guilty conscious over his head about leaving the others

The shadow siren was a bit lost at the actions of this man. She thought he'd have run away by now, but instead he was acting like he wanted to be friends. Which was strange. Right? Uh, I'm Niela," she shadow girl answered. "What exactly does the world hate you for?" Unfortunately, she didn't get an answer, as more men came out of the camp that she'd lured the first one out of, and they began to fire their weapons at her. A giant hand pulled Mort into the ground to protect him, placing him a dozen feet away somewhere else (without shrinking him, however), as Niela faced her assaulters, who's bullets simply phased through her shadowy body. In retaliation, Niela transformed her right forearm into a blade before extending it through one of the men's stomachs, while at the same time another arm grew under her left and plunged into the ground, grabbing up one of the others, with whom she pulled the same shrinking trick as she had on the first man she'd eaten.

(Still waiting on Krisexy, Ultimate, and Mortis ^^)

As Shadow was still behind the tree he seen the way Mort just walked up with to the Shadow siren like nothing botherd him just walking up to a predator who could just eat him at any second. Then he seen the other mercanaries run up and started fireing at the Shadow siren. The bullets went right through it and headed towards the tree Shadow was hiding behind and one of the bullets managed to get through the three and went into his right leg.
"Ahh!" He screamed. "You idiots! Just because my name is Shadow doesen't mean your bullets should hit me too!" He shouted as he tried to walk away from the tree. As he moved away from the tree he fell and landed with his left leg on the floor. "Damn! This stings... Where is that doc when you need him..."

Meanwhile Ed was still watching the event with his binoculars, as he hears Shadow scream he smiled. "Ah, your scream tingles me... I might go and help to try and earn some trust with this weird group... but who am I to call weird." He chuckled at his joke. He ran up to the place where the action was and gave Shadow a little device he made to heal damaged parts of of your body.

"Heh, thanks doc..." He got up with his leg healed and ran back to the camp. Ed followed behind him. As they got back to the camp Ed looked around for the Proffesor.

"Hey Shadow. Which tent was the proffesor's?" He asked

"I wasn't paying attention to which tent was which but I think that tent their is it." He replied back to Ed pointing towards the tent. As Ed looked inside and there was no one inside the tent. He looked down and found foot steps which let out side of the camp. "No... No! NO! That blasted proffesor is not in here!" Ed shouted, his rage was building as he drew his binoculars and could see the Prof with some one with him. "You... you think you can out smart me prof! Think again! This doc ALWAYS has the last laugh! Your not getting that tablet! But..." He drew out his weapon, his own twisted invention, his ray gun. "Even if you do... you will have another thing coming! Ha..haha...Muhahahaha!" He manicaly laughed but then he realised Shadow was right next to him so he put his weapon away.

"What?" Shadow simply replied.

The doc just smiled nervously "Hey Shadow that prof is leaving without us. Well looked like my spies were right..." he said smiling with an evil grin behind it.

"Your... spies? Ah whatever, I don't think I want to know more about you... but go on..." Shadow said calmly and they followed the prof's footprints. As they were walking Ed discussed to Shadow that the Prof had an evil plan and if he got that tablet terrible things would happen.

I hope this lie I made makes him believe that the prof is trying to get that tablet for evil, not for research. I might go back to tell the others so they join me... I think this plan just might work out, but I will have to perswade them as much as I can, I think I know how to get this boy to join me...

"...and that is why the prof is getting that tablet to try and destroy your world." Ed smiling at his lie hoping for it to work.

Shadow's eyes lit up as rage filled up inside him "...that is all I need to know... he will pay!" He shouted.

"We must go back and warn the others!" Ed played along and they both walked back to the camp.

If this plan backfires... then I am probably good as dead... but I always have a plan C. Ed thought.

At first the mercs were fired up with hatred, revenge burning in their hearts. They intended to destroy the strange pred to avenge their fallen comrade. But as each of them fell victim to the sirens relentless and voracious attacks, the remaining merc finally realised that he stood no chance against the siren with his current weapon. So, to avoid sharing the same acidic fate as his fellows, he swiveled around 180 degrees and was about to run away when he bumped into someone who was standing behind him. Mort stared at him murderously as the merc raised his weapon and attempted to pull the trigger. But before he could he suddenly felt excruciating pain ripple through him. He looked down to see Mort's hand pressed firmly against his chest. The merc was in so much pain he couldn't even cry out until finally after 10 seconds he passed out onto the floor. Mort picked up the mercs weapon and threw it away. He then casually sat on the unconcious merc and sighed in exhaustion. He nursed his now blackened right hand... that occasionally crackled with jet black lightning.

"THIS... is what I am hated for Niela... On my homeplanet I was the most feared thing in existence. Until I got overconfident and fell into a trap. The high priest of my realm cast a spell to transport me to another dimension with his dying breath. I wasn't prepared. When I awoke I found myself HERE. And I quickly learned that I wasn't the most feared thing around anymore, far from it."

He looked at Niela and gave her an arrogant grin.

"But I am not exactly a fluffy kitten either. Not at all. So... Are you going to eat this guy or what? His snoring is starting to annoy me."

Niela looked at this man who had just helped her catch her dinner. He was so strange. Most people were scared of her. And what was this power of his? Well, maybe she'd find out later. Right now, it was time to finish her meal. "You may want to take a few steps back," she warned Mort. She then then made a sound of effort and used a type of magic that most shadow sirens know, and turned an area of the shadow under the sleeping merc into a portal to her stomach. The man began to sink into the ground slowly, hips-first, and his body began to fold upwards at the waist. Soon his torso had been swallowed up completely, and only his arms and legs stuck out, while Niela licked her lips sensually and enjoyed the feeling of her stomach slowly filling up. Soon the poor man had disappeared completely, and the shadow of the ground returned to normal. Niela then rubbed her belly sighed, her stomach now satisfied.

Mort quickly got to his feet as soon as he saw hunger in her eyes, and then watched as the oblivious merc sunk slowly into the portal. He grinned in delight at Niela's expression as the merc slowly filled her stomach. He walked over to her.

"Was he delicious Niela? I bet. But surely you must still be hungry right? A lovely shade like yourself is surely unlikely to be satisfied only by a small group of mercs. I did happen to see a bunch of people abandon the mercs and run off towards the ruins whilst you were enjoying yourself. How about we fill your stomach some more huh?"

He turned away, and then slowly turned back. This time his face deadly serious, harboring a definite tone of inhumanity. A dim red light shone from beneath the bandages that covered his left eye.

"Don't even think about trying to fill your belly with me. I assure you that should you try, you will quickly discover that I am NOT good for your life expectancy."

He strode off in the direction of the fleeing party. Looking back, his face had returned to normal.

"Come on. I don't have all day."

Niela was slowly becoming less attracted to the presence of this man. He frightened her, yet at the same time, she appreciated his company. But when she heard him give her a command, she became fed up. Without a word, she sunk into the ground and disappeared, leaving Mort by himself.

Meanwhile Ed and Shadow were heading back to the camp and were in a convosation.

"... Infact, Shadow I have an idea... What if we turn back to were the prof is going, because... HE CAN'T GET THAT TABLET!" Ed shouted at the top of his voice after speaking calmly.
"Seriously, you need to calm down..." Shadow suggested.
"How! I need that tablet! It is rare for me to even come out of my lab! He isn't even gonna use it for evil!" Ed suddenly put his hand on his mouth, realising what his anger had made him say.
"What!? Ok doc I don't think you can fool me now. Look if you want that tablet sooo badly, why don't you just go up and get it? Nothing is going to stop you-exept all the preds, the prof and possibly the people around you, maybe including me." Shadow smiled with the little sence of humour he still had.
"Rrrrg, you dare... talk to the doctor like that!" Ed shouted pulling out his ray gun setting it to the ice beam and aiming at Shadow. "You will pay for your ignorance... AND your arrogence!" Saying that he fired it at Shadow's legs and in seconds Shadow was stuck. "Haha! Don't worry, just chill their for a sec. I am sure all the other kids around here will think your cool." Ed laughed at his joke.
"Damn... I don't know what is worse... listening to your jokes or being stuck here..." Shadow quietly said.
"So long! Sleep tight, don't let the preds bite. Hah!" Saying that he turned around and sprinted to where the proffesor gone to.
"... This is bad... I hope somebody comes along... and not that pred..." Shadow quietly said to himself.

Mort watched and slowly lifted an eyebrow as Niela sank into the ground and disappeared. These creatures certainly were strange. Maybe he overdid it a little with the warning? Oh well he didn't need her help anyway. Before he left he took a match from his satchel and set the camp ablaze for some much needed entertainment. With that he headed off in the direction of the ruins.

After walking for a few minutes he spotted the rather odd sight of a man struggling against a huge block of ice, of which his feet were deeply embedded. He walked up to shadow and tutted slowly.

"Well, well what do we have here? A merc betrayed by his fellows? No, you don't look grizzled enough to be a merc. Either way, theres no reason to go back to that camp. I set it on fire and shadow bitch ate all your friends. Well, except for one but he got eviscerated instead."

Mort looked at Shadow all over and got serious.

"You'd like me to free you I bet. Sure, I'd be happy to oblige. But first give me one good reason why I shouldn't just leave you to die here."

Shadow simply stared at mort for a few seconds before ansering.
Is... he serious? He is asking for a reason just so I can get free... wow... "Well, that is a good question, why should you free me without asking for a reason first." He said smiling a little. "I never thought someone as nice as you would be be the first one to see me and come up to me. Anyway sorry for my humour if you need a reason then fine... Oh! and to make things clear I am not a merc and all of those other mercs I don't know and don't care much about them. I have just been dragged into this by that unbelievable doctor... and if you free me I would like to be able to get back at him." He sighed. "So, could you get me out of this? You would not believe how cold it is..."

(I'm real sorry for the lack of posting recently but I've been overwhelmed with life stuff, my job this, my family that, blah blah blah ect. Sorry again for the delay.)

"Hmmm. A quest for revenge? Would this professor be the same one I spoke with? Alright I'll let you go. But I'll be followiing you to these ruins. My sense of direction isn't what it used to be."

Mort unsheathed his sword, which then began to glow dark purple. Soon, a dark aura surrounded the blade. He moved it close to the ice which promptly began to melt.

"The blade is hotter than it looks pal..." He muttered. "I won't think twice about roasting you with it if you try anything."

Soon, the ice was melted and Shadow had free use of his legs once again.

"After you.."

I apologize greatly for not continuing this RP Unless you guys wanna continue this one, I can ask one of the mods to close this thread so I can work on a new RP idea

Hi there just making a routine once a month or so visit. Yeah I'd say this was pretty dead. It happens so often to me that I have stopped coming here so often as theres nothing worth doing as it always ends suddenly. T_T
