| Hello all. I am a general fan of fantasy, with a proclivity towards trying to come up with interesting and useful ways to either apply magic or combine magic, science, and technology. I've been looking through Felarya stuff for about two months or so, and what made me join the community is the fact that it actually seems decently large and active, something which most unified fantasy settings don't seem to be able to claim. | |

| Hello! I'm a little late to post here but as they say,"Better late than never", yea? :3
Well! My name is Syronael, and I am a mer~ I'm not sure whether or not there's anything like what Syronael is on Felarya or not, but those of you that are well-versed in the lore of Felarya can probably determine whether or not that's true at first glance.
Anyways, I'm happy to be here! I've known about Felarya for a while but I've been far too shy to really indulge myself in the community and social aspect of it.. 'til now! Stabs offered me a very warm welcome and a good bit of chatting yesterday when I first logged on, and I look forward to chatting with the rest of you!

A mysterious n00b? Alright! That sounds like fun. X3 Hello there, Syronael (Sigh-Roh-Nail?). I am jedi or as some know me, David Dent. I'll be but one of your guides to this fantastic and fantastically horrifying place known as F E L A R Y A As is my new custom as of late I'm going to give you a gift basket containing the following starter items: - Syronael's Gift Basket:
X 1 Shock Wave Trident. Modeled after my favorite human sized merwoman Pyka's . It can shoot a blast of sonic energy that under water is like the Pokemon Move Water Pulse but on land is a ear piercing and telekentic wave that'll make Inu's, Nekos and others sensittive hearing want to roast you like a pig. XD X1 Mask of Khord: A joke version of the real artifact that won't make you able to shape shift but is great for parties and gags or just hiding your face from the Negav Police and Lawful fellows. X1 Free Night at H o t e l Vivian gift card. Redeemable only at the Chiodorni Waterfalls.
With that I say welcome and good luck, Syron! - Mysterious Returner? wrote:

| Alright, so I'm Xion. No relation to the Kingdom Hearts character, the name actually comes from a hunter pet I had back when I played World of Warcraft (the pet was itself named after the mountain of Zion in Jerusalem, because I had just returned from an Ash Wednesday mass when I tamed her and it was fresh on my head). The full name, "XionGaTaosenai", means "Xion will not die" a name that I'm sure reaches the peak of irony in a place like this. It is also based on the name of a song I liked back when I chose the name for myself. The name was designed to be one that would never be taken, on any site or service, so that I could use it everywhere and have no need to warp or add numbers to it. The XionGaTaosenai on DeviantArt, the XionGaTaosenai on Tumblr, the XionGaTaosenai on Youtube, the XionGaTaosenai on Steam, etc. are all the same Xion - me! I am taking classes on Video Game design, and I used to play games a lot, but nowadays I spend much more time talking about games than I do actually playing them. My interests mainly focus on Nintendo games and Indie games, and I tend to dislike most Triple-A and competitively focused titles. I have a fascination with Giantesses and Monster Girls. I would hesitate to call it a fetish, as it largely lacks a truly sexual component to it. In fact, I'm pretty much devoid of sexual desires entirely, and identify myself as asexual. Vore is not exactly my cup of tea, but I've been following Felarya long enough to become more or less acclimated to it. I've had Felarya on my periphery for years now, but with the recent surge in the Monster Musume manga/anime, I found myself very interested in the premise of that manga but generally disappointed in what actually results. After a while, I came to the realization that Felarya actually does right all of the things I thought Monster Musume did wrong, so out of curiosity I bought the main Tomes and I wasn't disappointed. The main things that impress me about Felarya:
- It's actually a lot less sexualized than almost everything else revolving around monster girls, at least from the perspective of someone who doesn't find the vore arousing. Yes, over half of the girls are nude and no one has any qualms with drawing a vulva, but that makes sense given the setting and the story for the most part doesn't draw attention to it. Once the plot and action get rolling, you just kind of forget about how no one's wearing clothes and it stops being something you pay attention to, at least that's been my experience. This is in sharp contrast to MM, which goes out of its way to throw sex at you as much as it can while still getting past the sensors, and I must say I appreciate Felarya's approach far more.
- It passes the Bechdel Test. Okay, MM does as well, but Felarya holds to the spirit of the test; the notion that women can have lives that don't revolve around men, romance, or motherhood. Out of all of the almost entirely female cast of Felarya, have either of those three subjects come up even once in the 5 main tomes? Again, contrast with MM, pretty much the quintessential "harem" anime. Really, as someone who's wholly unconcerned with sex, Felarya has been absolutely refreshing not just compared to MM, but to media in general.
I also get along well with Felarya on a philosophical level. For those who don't recoil at the setting, Felarya provides an excellent context in which to question the role and the place of humanity in the universe, not just in Felarya but out here as well. All my life I've called bullshit on the notion that humans are "god's children" or otherwise hold an elevated position over other life. We're just a bunch of monkeys who learned how to cook food and tame dogs, and if we're going to stick around on this planet we need to accept that we're a part of it and not above it. Felarya is a world where humans are denied the privileges they gave themselves in this world by right of having the biggest guns, and I think it's a better world than ours for it. | |

| Welcome, Xion! That's quite an interesting first post here on the forum. I agree with you on how the Felarya mangas treat the character's nakedness as something natural and unremarkable, with the result that it's not (for the most part) presented as overtly sexualised. Likewise the Bechdel test, indeed! Speaking as someone who writes Felarya stories (not mangas, because I'm no good at drawing…), I like the idea that the women of Felarya are just getting on with their ordinary lives, doing things their own way, as they like. | |

| Welcome here! and know, in fact, not every felaryan artist insists on drawing vagoos and utter nakedness. there are some few scattered inbetween (like me) who keep the decensy of their felaryan inhabitants, even for human standards, intact. | |
