Also known as Black Mermaids, this variety takes after dolphins, killer whales and other cetaceans rather than fish and is easily identifiable by a striking black and white coloration, which varies between individuals. Less common than other species, the Orcians are nevertheless widely reviled for their cruel and almost perverse nature. While they feed largely on fish, Orcians are quick to assault other creatures up and including chlaenas and fellow mermaids, and even seem to enjoy killing for the sake of it, entire family groups abusing and torturing hapless victims on a whim. Males in particular easily get carried away, submitting to dark temptations every other race would find unacceptable. Disturbingly enough, Orcians don't appear to do any of these out of malice; If one were to be asked about it, they'd happily pass it off as "good fun"
Orcians lack a proper mermaid song, but their sonic "laugh" is incredibly disorienting and painful to other creatures. They feel at home in both warm and cold waters, and are fierce rivals of the Selachi.

This is likely WAY too much, but I just wanted to have a try at dolphin mermaids that didn't follow the overhyped image they have in media. People should fear dolphins more than sharks
