| Pretty big, I think.
Honestly I'm pretty broken up about it. After Westwood was shutdown it started my seething hatred of EA, but with Maxis I feel like I'm taking it personally. Honestly I probably wont buy anything from EA ever again.

| Umm? I hate EA already for treating people like trash and releasing half-assed made games and requriring you to pay for DLC. (The worst offense is going to be NFS Unlimited, where you pay REAL LIFE CASH for virtual gas). But can someone explain whats going on here? Im a little lost. | |

| To quote a comment I read concerning this...: - Anonymous Reader wrote:

I think it's generally just a cycle and the originality of studios is always lost after several years, even without publishers acquisitions. There might be a few exceptions, but most studios will get to big and lose their soul either through corporate acquisition or on their own.
To me it's kind of like a cycle. So i'm not really all that down about it. EA isn't the only publisher to do this with the companies they handle, I beleive this rough cycle is part of the industry as a whole, and yeah there are cases where you do see decades old companies. But they never keep their original founders to keep that "soul" going. There's always going to be new people and new things coming up that might be better or worse. I'm not going to be surprised if a new start up company or a familiar one remakes sims under a different name and makes it better because they loved the game, but don't want to make the mistakes other developers did, and grandfather their ingenuity back through today. Didn't like much the series anyways, so it doesn't come to me really as shock.

| Sounds like Rare all over again, from what I can tell. Gonna' be a lot of disappointed gamers.
All that's left to do now is wait for the crappy The Sims: Nuts and Bolts sequel. :/

| Just because a company is old doesn't mean originality is lost. You can have something like the Tales games as an example. There's like twenty of them, but they're all different. Some are good, some are bad, but people still love them.
It sounds like the reapers from mass effect. "We created synthetics to kill organics so they dont create synthetics to kill them." That logic to me doesn't make much sense. Plus, like hhat said, I've grown up with Maxis and Westwood, I love them both, and mourn their loss.
I refuse to buy anything at all with EA's name on it. Unfortunately this also means all Bioware titles, and thats going to hurt the most, I think. Visceral as well...
I am aware hardly anyone will likely do the same. Gamers dont get together too often boycott things, but I do wish it'd happen. I don't support what they're doing.

| I was never a big Sims fan. But I will agree that game studio shutdowns always hurt. That said, I will agree with cycles, but not to the same way as Vix states. Chris Roberts, don't let us down. | |
