| Gulper Eels are aquatic creatures, capable of growing up to 10 feet in length, with average body thickness of 6-8 inches. However, they are capable of consuming a 6-foot human easily, thanks to it's streachable body. It prefers deeper water, but has been seen in water barely 3 feet deep. It's main predator is Mermaids, and humans. If there are gulper eels in the area, chances are no mermaids are nearby, though one may just be lurking underwater, waiting for one that had just eaten....
It's not as big a threat to humans as one would think, since they prefer the open waters. Plus Mermaids love them. They're a bigger threat in the shallower inlets where mermaids can't easily catch them. Humans have been known to traverse tidal inlets in order to catch them for several reasons. While they do not provide too much meat, their stomachs, when dried out, become a strong leather-like material that retains the approximate size of when it was streached while drying, and thus has been used to make makeshift packs.

| I say the Felaryan gulper eel should be a little higher up on the food chain. But that's just me. | |

Seriously. - /Fish/ wrote:

Not just you. Come on; on a world filled with gigantic creatures that swallow other creatures alive and whole, a creature whose stomach makes up nearly 90% of its body length and can swallow creatures THREE times its size alive and whole... only grows up to 10' long and is a threat to 6' tall humans? o.O - Sean Okotami wrote:

This. Only... more. "The Great Swallower found off South Sound was just 7.5 inches in length. The fish it had eaten, an extremely aggressive snake mackerel, measured 34 inches, which is close to three feet in length. Local Marine Scientist Phillippe Bush was in awe of the smaller fish’s appetite. “I would hate to see what a three–foot–long Great Swallower is capable of eating.”" The Great Swallower is a member of Actinopterygii, the same Class that the Gulper Eel falls into. Here's a picture of my own, showing the aforementioned 7.5" fish: EDIT: Also, note that the head of the fish isn't sticking out because it tore through the stomach; the Great Swallower is opened up because the scientists started dissecting it, not because its prey was too big to fit inside the stomach.

That's an eel? They're both fish, of the same Order of ray-finned fish that eels fall into. A 34" long specimen of this: was swallowed by a 7.5" long specimen of this: The deep seas are a mysterious and wonderous place. ^^

| Can't the deep sea angler fish do that too? swallow something that is like twice it's size? This thing has alot of dangerouse potential If it is capable of streaching it's stomach. Just think if there was a Giant Mermaide that could do that. | |

Best not to think about something like that. It's like the basis for a Felarya horror story.

Best not to think about something like that. It's like the basis for a Felarya horror story. Probably I don't plan on making a character like that anyway.

| I think they shouldn't grow past 10' in length. Just so they don't eat every single thing in the sea. | |

| Well really it all just depens on how far it can streach. Even if it can streach it may have lemits to how far it can streach. | |

Best not to think about something like that. It's like the basis for a Felarya horror story. Something is coming. Something is coming soon. Something is coming soon, and it's coming for you. Something is coming soon, and it's coming for you... and it's bringing friends. Seriously, you guys will have something new to talk about very soon here.

| To those who want it higher in the food chain: No. I wanted a mid-level creature. And yes, I did get insperation by the real life eel of the same name.
Anyway, added a bit more to it.
