Amoveo Umbra is a latin phrase that translates to "The Shifting Shadow.
This is a idea for a new species of Succubus that I would like to present for consideration. So far, I have seen three sepecies of Succubus, I think a few more would be nice for those of us who like demoness of one form or another.
" Appearance."
Like most species of Succubus , the Shadow Succubus are bewitching to Mortal eyes, able to charm even the most stalwart humans and render them helplessly infatuated. The Succubus themselves tend to vary in appearance.
.Snow white to Pale Grey skin
.Common hair colors are Red, orange, yellow (blonde), dark green, blue, or purple. All shades are usually bright in nature, with the exception of purple and blue. Red hair is considered a sign of strength amoung the loosly formed Shadow society.
.It is common for Shadow succubus to posses both a tail and wings. Tail are colored to match the skin of the owner while wings are usually black and dragonic in design.
.Eye colors do not vary greatly, the most common eye color is violet and purple, occasionally a green eyed succubus will appear, but it is a rarity amoung the race.
.Height varies between 6' to 80' feet in height, but can be changed at will.
. Shadows tend to wear a unreadable , impassive expression most of the time, unless they are in the grips of a very strong emotion, only then will the emotion show on the shadows facial features. It takes a intimate knowledge or keen eye to decipher the mood of a Shadow otherwise.
.Shadows, like fire Succubus posses very long tongues, showing that they may be a offshoot from that particular species, though some Sivler like tendencies concerning clothing do occur, though Shadow almost always wear clothing of some kind, even in giant from, they're wings serve as cloaks wrapped about the shoulders.Though, unlike the Siver Succubus, they do not exhibit sensual behaviour which proves that the choice of less clothing may be for comfort..though sensual advances are not unheard of, just exceedingly rare and even then..it not so much as a advance as a insistence.
"Behaviour
Shadows Succubus are by nature solitary, however it is not uncommon for a Shadow to stalk Prey for days , observing it's habits before finally eating the intended victim. For a unknown reason, Shadows prefer to swallow their prey while they are asleep and are careful not to wake up the victim , even as they are swallowing them. It is speculated that the shadows are sympathetic of their prey and prefer it to die as peacefully as possible. If a victim wakes up while being eaten and causes commotion, the shadow demon will hold it's breath until the victim passes out, then swallow.This is a problem with aquatic prey, being as they do not require oxygen to survive.
If a victim wakes up before actually being put in the shadows mouth and attempts to reason with the Succubus, chances are that she will listen and if the victim comes up with a good reason why he/she should not be eaten , then chances are they will be relesed. However, should the victim not produce a winning argument, they will be promptly knocked unconscience and swallowed.
This sympathetic, nearly apologetic nature does not extend to interactions with other non-food type individuals. Shadows are quiet to the point of rudeness and have a tendency to dissappear when the individual looks away for a instant. However, if the person finds him or herself stalked during the following week, then they have gained the interest of the shadow and will likely be tailed by them for years. Gaining the friendship and trust of a Shadow is no mean feat. It is not unusual for a friendship to take years to form, but once formed the bond is just as hard to break as it was to form. Persons finding themselves in a friendship with a shadow find that they make affectionate, if not quiet friends.
Magical abilities
Shadow demons posses a form of Innate Magic that allows instant transportation via the opening of a wormhole underneath the Shadows feet. Though a wormhole, it does not disrupt the nearby enviroment unless the caster wills it so. These portals open without warning and have often been used to transport a enemy of overly talkative person to a comfortable distance from the Shadow, which could be anywhere from five to ten miles. Excessive use of the portal drains the Shadows strength considerably and requires concentration and a knowledge of the intended destination. Random teleportation never turns out well
If a Shadow finds itself in a position in which teleportation is impossible, they are able to wrap themselves in their wings and transform into a small ball that flits through the air at high speeds to make a escape. This power requires huge amounts of stamina and can leave the Shadow paralyzed with exhaustion if used to long. The Shadows wings can be used for extended flight, but this is primarily for hunting above ground and slying across gorges or broken tunnels.
Shadows posses moderate to above average strength and have impecable night vision and hearing. As they originally came from subterranian mines and caves, touch and smell are augmented. This is as much for survival as any other reason, Shadows are slow breeders and the lose of even one is felt by the entire species.
Habitat
Shadows originated from caves and mines and a large number still dwell there. But a number of them moved out into the deep forests and other subterranian areas. The Shadows found that they thrived in several deep wooded areas of the world, most noteworthy is the Evernght forest. The constant darkness is just like their native underground lairs and they're impecable night vision made habitation much easier. Although the Darkness has little effect on them, Shadows tend to shy away from the Tenebra Maze because of the high concentration of Predators and the feeling of having their movement somewhat constrained does not agree with them at all. Other places where Shadows can be found are Deeper Felarya, Dridder Forest, Mysterious temple and esspecially thr Ascarlin Mountains, from which they originated. Anywhere that the Shadow is obscured by darkness, that has large trees on which they can climb and leap about, mountains or rocky areas could be habitat for Shadows. However, the species is slow to breed and their numbers are small. Shadows do not form tribes and have no leader. There will very rarely be more then three in a given area outside the Ascarlin mountains
