Okay, straight to the chase:
Biology: The Narez are, as the topic says, rabbit people. Even the Felaryan variety is relatively short for human-like creatures, getting only 4-5' tall naturally. they generally have a bushy tail that loosely sheds off when grabbed, rabbit ears, strong front claws, and powerful back legs. It has been noted that they retain a cute, childlike face throughout their entire lifespan.
Their mating cycle was typical of a rabbit's when they first arrived, mating and producing year around. However, the little guys are basically Felaryan M & M's: not very filling, delicious, and partially addictive. Upon being massively hunted (though they can be challenging to catch) by various predators, the race went into hiding to avoid as many predator encounters as possible, lest more should develop a taste for them. They learned to stifle their mating instincts, at no small discomfort, and have evolved through the years to breed only one or two months of the year. The majority of the population lives underground, eating mostly roots. The Narez are purely herbivorous and cannot eat meat under almost any circumstance. Although the majority of Narez live underground in the wild, some have adapted to city life as mail couriers and such, as they are generally extremely fast and agile.
Culture: The race's clothing and building choices are, not surprisingly, based on speed and rapid escape. Their usual garb, for example, is very loose and weak, ripping easily if given a hard tug. There are folds on the extremities and neck area especially, and most times a predator grabs a Narez in the normal fashion, the cloth will rip and the individual will receive another chance at escape. The culture is full of small tactics like this, and they usually work in the brief time that the creatures wander around on the surface (usually looking for a site for a new home).
Naturally, being small, rare, cute, and handy makes them prime targets for slavers. This doesn't usually cause a problem for the group, though, as encounters are rare and the Narez can easily outrun humans or nekos alike. If cornered, however, their defense is somewhat more substantial: their toe-claws are generally left sharp and exposed, and their kick is every bit as powerful to scale as a rabbits. This may not seem very impressive. However, a full-grown Narez can shatter bones or worse, decapitate an attacking foe in a single motion. The front claws, too, were developed for digging into hard dirt for extended periods of time... I leave the rest to your imagination. Against an opponent they view as similar to themselves, like humans and nekos, they usually tend to avoid violence if fleeing is a option, being somewhat peaceable in nature.
TWCN: A few Narez living in cities as mail deliverers eventually decided to operate on a bigger scale at some point. Some ended up moving to the jungle, setting up an inspired, brave, and ambitious project that the pioneers of the group called the Trans Wilderness Communication Network with the intention of making life for beings out in the remote areas just a little bit better. Needless to say, the earlier attempts were catastrophic failures, and most of the early founders ended up being eaten. More recently, however, better survival techniques and more caution has lead to a few breakthroughs: mostly involving dryads. Because the dryads are immobile, having agile, quick little creatures deliver their messages to other races simply makes sense, to some extent. It's no substitute for face-to-face interaction, but the system is very convenient for emergencies and short messages not worth a long trip.
The TWCN now assists various human and neko outposts in keeping in touch, as well. Creatures with widespread associates also give the couriers limited protection, so traveling gets less dangerous as time progresses as more creatures learn of their usefulness. Again, not all that many predators see the benefit in the business just yet, so the TWCN is still veeery tenuous, and the way for the couriers is still very dangerous.
Okay, that's most of what I have. If someone else made a race similar to this, I will take it down immediately. Also, the TWCN is just a notion I thought up once, and if it seems stupid, I can always cut it out.
