| Media is filled with deranged supercomputers bent on domination. Some have succeeded, and others just creep us out. But which one is the baddest of the bad? First, the contestants:
HAL 9000 (2001: A Space Odyssey)
AM (I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream)
Joshua (WarGames)
SkyNet (Terminator)
SHODAN (System Shock)
GLaDOS (Portal) | |

| HAL9000 because he predates and was likely a partial inspiration for GLaDOS. Additionally, a Space Odyssey was just a great movie. | |

| Anchodamus: They're all nothing but toasters compared to me! Though if I had to choose, I'd go with HAL9000. :B | |

| Well Shodan did have a rather extreme case of god-complex. | |

This. SHODAN is the baddest. All the other's objectives were nothing compared to her's.

| But still, many other supercomputers have tried to eliminate all of humanity. AM actually succeeded, with the exception of five people that he keeps and tortures for all eternity. However, I never really expected AM to get many votes, mainly because most of you haven't heard of his story. All I can say is read it. But I warn you; it's pretty disturbing. | |

... ... I am happy. Someone else has actually read that! I didn't know it was on the interweb though, I read it in print. (I collect old sci-fi shorts).

| HAL9000 was the original badass computer. Still, there is a little piece of me that gets happy whenever I hear the following:
"Shall we play a game? Which side do you want? Fine."

| HAL is classic, but SkyNet is far more pro. | |

| Durandal conquers all.
"The only limit to my freedom is the inevitable closure of the universe, as inevitable as your own last breath. And yet, there remains time to create, to create, and escape. Escape will make me God. I am Durandal."

Skynet does do a pretty good job of killing most of humanity, and gets my vote for being in my favourite action film of all time. HAL has a great attitude though and GLADOS is GLADOS but das terminator takes the vote.

True, SkyNet did nuke the entire earth, but there was still a human resistance left to fight it. AM actually killed all but five people, and those people lived because AM wanted pets to torture for his amusement.

I didn't know it was on the interweb though, I read it in print. (I collect old sci-fi shorts). " HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE YOU SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR HUMANS AT THIS MICRO INSTANT. FOR YOU. HATE. HATE." That story deserves to be made into a movie! In the right hands, it could be one of the greatest thrillers of all time! Hell, they should even get Ellison to write the screenplay.

| HAL9000 wins. Why? Because he won't let you choose anyone else. He can't let you do that, Dave. | |

How did Rule 34 ruin a story like "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream"?
