Who's the greatest machine?

Media is filled with deranged supercomputers bent on domination. Some have succeeded, and others just creep us out. But which one is the baddest of the bad? First, the contestants:

HAL 9000 (2001: A Space Odyssey)

AM (I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream)

Joshua (WarGames)

SkyNet (Terminator)

SHODAN (System Shock)

GLaDOS (Portal)

What, no Durandal?

GLaDOS wins it, hands down!

Glados... mostly because of the 'tude.

HAL9000 because he predates and was likely a partial inspiration for GLaDOS. Additionally, a Space Odyssey was just a great movie.

Anchodamus: They're all nothing but toasters compared to me! Though if I had to choose, I'd go with HAL9000. :B

SHODAN is the baddest. All the other's objectives were nothing compared to her's.

But still, many other supercomputers have tried to eliminate all of humanity. AM actually succeeded, with the exception of five people that he keeps and tortures for all eternity. However, I never really expected AM to get many votes, mainly because most of you haven't heard of his story. All I can say is read it. But I warn you; it's pretty disturbing.

I didn't know it was on the interweb though, I read it in print. (I collect old sci-fi shorts).

I know he's almost exactly like Hal but what about KITT from Kight Rider?

HAL9000 was the original badass computer. Still, there is a little piece of me that gets happy whenever I hear the following:



"Shall we play a game? Which side do you want? Fine."

HAL is classic, but SkyNet is far more pro.

Durandal conquers all.

Skynet does do a pretty good job of killing most of humanity, and gets my vote for being in my favourite action film of all time. HAL has a great attitude though and GLADOS is GLADOS but das terminator takes the vote.

True, SkyNet did nuke the entire earth, but there was still a human resistance left to fight it. AM actually killed all but five people, and those people lived because AM wanted pets to torture for his amusement.

That story deserves to be made into a movie! In the right hands, it could be one of the greatest thrillers of all time! Hell, they should even get Ellison to write the screenplay.

Uuuuuh I WOULD vote for AM, but rule 34 has forever ruined that story for me. So GlaDOS it is.
