Pollution Elementals Empty
PostSubject: Pollution Elementals   Pollution Elementals Icon_minitimeSun Sep 26, 2010 10:13 am

Concept I had for a group of elementals that use various forms of pollution. A major source of inspiration was the animated villain Hexxus. While not actually an elemental, he could very well be described as one.

-------------------------------------

Pollution Elementals

Arising when an elemental spirits chooses to use various forms of pollutants to compose their bodies out of. They are rather uncommon in Felarya due to its rather pristine nature, and most that do appear come from other worlds where pollution is more rampart. Like darkness elementals, they are necessarily evil by nature, though their presence tends to have a negative impact on their surroundings, albeit unintentionally.

Sloil: Sloils are elementals formed when a pollution elemental uses crude oils to form a giant amoeba-like form. Like an amoeba, they move about via pseudopods with which they also use to engulf prey. This includes anything smaller than them, including other sloils. With the latter, it is still unknown whether or not they are in fact merely absorbing them for food or if in fact they fuse together in order to form a larger sloil. They can see as they possess an orb of light which functions as an eye. As oil is not collected in Felarya, sloils are thus very rare and tend to only arrive there from worlds where oil is refined and used. They are extremely vulnerable to fire, and thus tend to only inhabit underground areas where it is less likely to be present.

Smog Lords: Smog lords are elementals who choose to use smog and other aerial pollutants when it comes to forming their bodies. Typical resembling the upper torso of a humanoid formed out of dark smoke, they are slightly similar to some forms of air elementals. Unlike them, however, they can be extremely dangerous physically as they are extremely toxic to breath in, a trait amplified in such worlds as Felarya as the air is so pristine thus those who grew up their possess incredibly healthy lungs not used to dealing with pollutants. Thankfully, though, because of the pristine nature of Felarya's air, smog lords are particularly rare there, though they can be rather common on worlds containing both magic and heavy industrialization. Depending on their composition, they can varying susceptibilities to fire.

Junk Golem: Junk golems are not actually golems as their name would suggest, but elementals that use junk and garbage to form their bodies. While typically taking a humanoid form, in an instant they can disassemble themselves into a deadly twister of trash. While those that use scrap metal and the like can be rather durable, those that use organic garbage must "replenish" themselves as they decompose or else they will eventually fall apart. Out of all the pollution elementals, these are the most common in Felarya due to the fact that garbage is the most common pollutant to be found there.

Decay Dragon: Decaying dragons are one of the most mysterious forms that a pollution elemental can take, as well as the most powerful. How they are formed is not entirely known, only that when their body is complete they resemble a giant wingless dragon. Its black "scales" can be seen to be constantly flaking off whenever it moves, giving the impression that it is followed by a dark cloud. Its skin also possesses numerous thin cracks crisscrossing it, from which continuous clouds of methane and toxic smoke pour out. Drops of acid rain constantly drip out of its jaws, especially when it sees something it hungers for, thus mimicking saliva. Besides its metallic claws and teeth, it is capable of breathing out a thick dark cloud of poisonous gases akin to the flame breath of true dragons. Luckily, they need to be need to be near sources of pollution, and cannot survive for more than a week outside of them.

You mean they aren't. Also, this may sound mean, but this doesn't feel Elemental-ish. I think it's time we define what exactly can be defined as an Element an Elemental can possess, because at this pace, I wouldn't be surprise if there would be a Bone Elemental or a Flesh Elemental, or anything since their definition is so vague.

Well I noted that nature elementals don't use primal elements in their construction, as it says in the elementals page.

Well, a proper term for them would be Polluted Elementals. Also, I came up with those because Nagas gain an Elemental affinity. What is Crisis' affinity? Nature, so I put two and two together and made the Nature Elemental.

But yours are a stretch. The oil one, like Oil Elemental, would probably be a Water Elemental polluted with oil. The smog one with be an Air Elemental polluted with smog. The Junk one is the best example. It doesn't feel like an Elemental, it feels like a golem, or if you would stretch it, an Earth Elemantal with clay as its material with bits of junks fused in its body. The decay one is also pretty bad. What Element is it?

No offense, but these, in my eyes, are too much of a stretch for an Elemental and we should probably define what Element is in Felarya.

Technically, an Oil Elemental would probably be a subtype of Earth that has bonded with fossil fuel. But is there even any fossil fuel in Felarya's soil? The Junk one could be a Metal Elemental, probably another subtype of Earth, but since it uses garbage which may or may not be metal, it wouldn't count. It feels closer to either animated or possessed trash.

Maybe focus less on pollution and more them being "offspring" of certain Elementals?

"Where Fire Elementals are present, it is highly likely (relatively to Elemental "spawn rate") there is also a presence of Smoke Elementals"?

Let's not tangentalize this thread too much but I'm sure there would be. Felarya has been around long enough.

It's an original idea definitely but I'm not sure it can very well apply to Felarya ^^;
As I see it, for the elemental to be able to animate a lump of pollution, it would require to do it either on Felarya or in a world both very poluted and rich in magic. I imagine in the two cases, the occurance of it happening would be fairly rare..
