I'm trying to keep the Survivors as balanced and realistic, but willing to take almost any mean to accomplish their mission. So the heavy weapons would only be when they know they must deal with something big. Most of the time, they pack assault rifles with a few grenades.

Still above the average Son of Stathis gear (they're to be stuck in an "enforced" average of renaissance tech, occasionally getting someone higher or lower tech but the norm of gear never getting that high).

Add in that they see no problem cutting off a deal mid-way if it means looking out for other Sons of Stathis, I can't see them getting anything more than a C at the best of times.

In my opinion, when it comes to bodyguards and security, there would probably be individual mercenaries that don't operate with a team. What's everyone else's standing on this?

Ok this is what a tandam shaped charge warhead can do to, from my estimate, 1200mm of rolled homogenous armour (Desnity of RHA is listed to be 7.86 g/cm^3.)

Now I can't tell you exactly what weapon did this but it could be an RPG-29 or an infantry carried anti-tank missile such as a Javelin or AT-14 Kornet. More common single warhead anti tank weapons such as the RPG-7V, M72 LAW or AT-4 will only penertrate around half that distance of RHA due to their smaller warheads. As a general rule of thumb a HEAT warhead will penertrate about or over double the thickness of concrete than RHA; so a weapon (Panzerfaust 3) which can punch through 700mm of RHA will go through 1600mm of concrete. And with all these weapons you have anywhere from .4 to 5kg of TNT explosive detonating depending on the warhead design.

Ok my point; these weapons are very destructive and besides their terminal and very messy effects against fleshy targets such as predators, (that may be a small hole in the steel however steel isn't subject to hydrostatic shock nor will it have bone fragments going everywhere) I highly doubt the Magiocrats or the Vishmitals would want these kind of weapons in the hands of people they cannot entirely trust or account for; the civilian population or mercenaries. Negav already has an organisation whoes job it is to keep track of mages and make sure they behave; the Investigators, so it would be logical they would have some forms of arms control when it comes to heavy weapons. Yes certain groups may get their hands on such weapons, legally or illegally, however I doubt they will be a common trading item that everyone and their mother have access to.

Sounds about right.
Individual mercs would be hired as bodyguards or assassins.
Other free-roaming mercs would sign up for limited times with big merc groups, building a reputation.

From what I've seen, people aren't. Most of the groups that can take on Predators... are made from Predators (Such as the Fairy group, or the Dridder Cavalry one).
I don't think The 1st Supprozadian be taking on giant predators easily. They're not giant themselves. (Unless stated as giant, when talking about any predatory race assume them to be human sized).
They'd be quite effective against similar sized targets however. Maybe even against creatures about 20ft tall.

Ah, I wasn't trying to create any super-elite groups. I never stated that they would be going around killing giant predators "and shit". I was just trying to explore different backgrounds that mercenaries could come from and form up into. The 1st Supprozadian would need a lot to take on a giant predator - they are Motamo Docks dridders, so human sized. Really with their fighting style they would be best suited for running down bandits.

There's nothing that talks about their methods or their operation, or what they mostly specialise in. They sound more like a band of friends who simply do boyscout tasks for people and not a band of mercenaries.

It started out as a band of friends, but now it's not so by a long shot. As for what they specialize in...mercenaries generally take whatever job will pay, and are often quite neutral, it's different in that this particular group will only something that's within the law.

You can imagine it sort of like civilian police with better equipment, though the guard doesn't do much about them because they are pretty helpful to them.

They're still generic. They don't stand out at all. I see nothing special. In fact, their "goody-goody" thing you put pretty much make them completely out of place.

Well, the mercenary idea sounds pretty good and all. It makes sense for this world and I see everyone is just creating their bands and all that... Though I guess creating your own band will need some good time to analyze possibilities and balancing it, not to forget creating more characters and making them somewhat unique, and unfortunatelly I don't have the time for that and I currently have way too many characters. xD

Still, I'm watching the progress made and it's looking good. Smile

Okay, im gonna post it here because im not sure how many people are checking it out, and I'd like (ideally speaking here) a few opinions on it. Should I name the leader or anything like that?

SAaRC (Search Apprehension and Response Contractors)

SAaRC is a group of Civilian Contractors (mercenaries) that are paid by both civilians and the Negav Guard. They operate strictly within the Law of Negav, and will not do anything that breaks it, nor will they accept bribes. SAaRC is unusual in that respect, and also since they are "contractors" they have the benefits of using higher grade weapons and armor for dangerous/hazardous situations.

They are currently most prevalent in the underground of Negav, undertaking assignments down below and in the normal parts of the city that the Guard just cannot find the time or manpower to do. Despite their relationship with the Guard, they do NOT have top security clearance.

Though despite what people think, the SAaRC isn't a large organization, and they don't have a massive number of people.

History:

SAaRC started out as a group of friends who worked at an unspecified shop, and hired themselves out as a side job. Through diligence and patience they were able to start a reputation of being a "goody-goody" mercenary group, without the balls to get their hands dirty.

Eventually they acquired popularity, and through success, they quit their day-job to become a full-time mercenary group. Through lots of money they were able to afford better equipment and more men, often taking ex-guards who were discharged by one reason or another. They still maintained a strict policy to obey the law as much as possible.

It was not long before one of their jobs collided with the Negav Guard, and instead of fighting, they were able to work out a complimentary situation for both. After a couple of different encounters, the Negav Guard begrudgingly accepted their help with some situations, and kept under-the-table relationships due to ex-guard members also serving in SAaRC. It is rumored that the top leaders of these contractors are a group of a neko, two humans and a female elf as the leader.

On the record they are a 'helpful' bunch of people who's assistance is 'appreciated' by the guard. Under the record they are recognized an extremely helpful group of people, this part is the most acknowledged simply due to stories.

Er, there's nothing wrong with "generic" Mercenary bands. Not everything needs to be flashy-flashy.

Plus, they work pretty well. They're a Mercenary force that's predominantly hired for law enforcement, "general" contracts, and the like (if I understand them right). Nothing wrong with specialization in a field that isn't extraordinary.

I would think a tattoo would be better, as it can be easily hidden to those not belonging to ones mercenary group. You wouldn't want prying eyes to know who you are.
