I'm loving the abundance of metal in this thread, especially Star One, Blind Guardian, and Rhapsody of Fire (three of my favorites). I've got another great rock/metal group to contribute, if we're not too tired of that yet.
Avantasia is a project by Tobias Sammet of Edguy, which brings together several great rock/metal musicians. I haven't heard the first two albums, but the last three (The Wicked Trilogy, consisting of The Scarecrow, The Wicked Symphony, and Angel Of Babylon), which tell a tale not unlike that of Faust, are loaded with great music.
This song here takes a little while to get going, but it's one of my absolute favorites. Chris Oliva FTW
Klaus Meine from The Scorpions! And Tobias Sammet being creepy as hell!
I love the lyrics, their delivery, and the harmonies in this song. It really does convey the hopelessness the protagonist feels while also conveying his otherness- sympathetic as he is, he simply does not fit in, and everything about this song helps drive that home.
Jorn Lande, I love you.
Another expertly structured and written song. The first half is just awesome.
This seems to be Avantasia's best-known song, and it's not hard to see why.

While it probably isn't anything special to those who don't have nostalgic feelings toward Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, (objectively, the game was pretty weak, but it hit me at a vulnerable time in my childhood, and I can't help but think of it fondly now), I recently stumbled across a metal version of the boss music. Nostalgic manly tears ensued.
The guy's done a number of covers of old game music. Pretty neat, in my mind.

To de Dood: Very good find a more epic adaption to an already awesome song, De Dway is indeed shedding tears of honor.
To de Serzer... serser... URRRGHGGH THIS PERSON: Another metal head has entered de mix who shown great taste in de genre... unlike some other people in life. It also seems you have forgotten one of their most known songs that is the same as their name, but all de songs you posted are still as epic, honor to you friend.
To de Solomon: ... Pikmin? Nothing wrong with it but.... WHY?
