This is something that has been bothering me for some time, since Karbo released the Vishmital concept (http://karbo.deviantart.com/art/Vishmital-concept-673729370) I was especially intrigued by the guns in the picture. Up till now, there have been only swords, bows and arrows, crossbows, and staffs used as physical weapons in the Felarya universe. From what I can tell from the pic, there seems to be some possible SMG, combat shotgun, sniper rifle, and either an assault rifle or machine gun.

This poses a few questions. Firstly, what is the ammo like? From the design, i'm assuming that it would be like Earth bullets made of some kind of metal with slight variations depending on the gun. However, the Wiki has stated the existence of some laser guns, so possibly they could be using laser ammo? Or possibly, something entirely different?

Secondly, as stated above, what guns could these be? I have tried my best to attempt to determine them from the pic, although my knowledge of guns isn't perfect.

Last and most importantly, how do said guns fare in Felarya? I'd imagine that they could easily kill smaller, human sized predators. Which I imagine would be fairly common, especially when you factor in the plants. Although, how would they do against the large predators? I'd imagine that fighting a standard giantess pred would be like fighting a very strong boss and would require at least a decently sized group of heavily armed soldiers to even stand a chance of persuading a giantess to leave them alone in search of other food. Any less, and it would probably be feeding time as usual for the giantess. For using guns against a giantess (Using a generalization here for the sake of argument) I imagine the eyes, face, privates, and wings if it has them, to be hit to deal the most damage. At the very least, continued fire could stun them, letting the humans escape or send in reinforcements. Although, I could be wrong; either way it would be a tough fight, like a boss fight.

Vishmintals have already a laser rifle and close combat weapon

I want to understand the objective of this thread is it a general discussion about firearms or design specific weapon for the Vishmintal?

And last thing Karbo is bad at drawing firearms Razz

I'm aware of their Hot rifle and vitishmali (which is kinda just a staff with blades when you get right down to it). But this discussion is about what could be the design and usage of the guns in the picture that was in the post, such as rounds and similar guns in other games or movies. In the comments, many related them to Halo and Starship Trooper weapons. I know little about either of them, so I was hoping this post could help get a better picture of these weapons and their usage. (Or until Karbo comes to clarify).

And about Karbo being bad at firearms, that may be true, but consider that this is the first time we have seen actual guns in Felarya! Before this, it was only blades, staffs, and arrows as shown in his pics. So this is something pretty new.

So I've done some brainstorming on Vishmital guns with Vix and Blue when they were around.  Generally, the Vishmital would use lasers as their primary weapons at all scales; I'm in favor of them using pulse lasers over wave lasers.  The highly compressed pulses would let a massive amount of energy be delivered to a pinpoint location on the target in a matter of microseconds or less, outright vaporizing chunks of target with no time for the heat to spread out.  Vishmital firearms would have replaceable power packs to serve as "ammo," and given the sheer size of their empire, I'd expect quite a variety of guns, forming a spectrum between hold-out pistols to wide-bore shoulder-fired anti-vehicle cannons.  None of them have any recoil of note nor bullet drop, making them easy to use.  I see as a general trend that increased size gives some combination of larger diodes (more powerful shots, generates more heat), better cooling (increases rate of fire), and various additional capabilities (extended power packs, high-power scopes, etc.).

The general power level I was going for was that Vishmital lasers are generally a bit better tuned against body armor and metal than flesh, but a standard rifle shot would outright vaporize about a fist-sized chunk of human flesh equivalent, with at least third-degree burns in a radius about double that from the impact point.  Against human-sized targets, a single shot can blow a limb off entirely, and most torso hits are lethal or debilitating, but against larger predators, the lasers often have trouble penetrating deep into their flesh.  Most hits will make them bleed and hurt, which might be enough to repel them unless they're particularly intent on their current prey.  The exception is eyes, and most Vishmital military vehicles have point-defense systems that, a few years after arrival on Felarya, were updated to be able to automatically target the eyes of most large predators, completely blinding them in milliseconds if given the clear shot.  Of course, larger Vishmital guns are significantly more powerful; I'd expect that a mounted heavy machine gun analogue would be capable of inflicting serious injury on all but the largest predators with a solid burst, and specialist anti-armor weapons (bazooka-analogues) are also a major threat to predators.  I'd expect that, with the sheer energies involved, fire-resistant predators would find their heat resistance to mitigate but not prevent injury.

As for the specific analogues, Karbo did a decent job making guns that look the part, especially given his general focus on biologicals.  I'd guess that, from top to bottom, they are a carbine analogue (standard rifle diode and power pack, but shorter cooling system and focal array leads to decreased effectiveness at range and shorter sustained fire periods), a heavy breacher (twin heavy diodes for high damage, but undersized cooling system, power pack, and focal array make it primarily useful in CQC), an SMG analogue (pistol diode, everything else oversized for high rates of sustained fire), sniper rifle analogue (rifle diode, power pack, and cooling, but extended focal array and high-power precision targeting array for extended effective range), and what looks like another SMG-analogue.

Also, for the record, while I don't know if the hot rifle pre-dates it, the Vishmital are not the only major group on Felarya to use guns; the Isolon Fist actually makes use of rather modern-looking weaponry enhanced with magic, as seen here.
