its just an open idea.. but what if there where private chatrooms that only people who knew the hosts pass could get in? say for like private live RP's or a chat that not just anyone can see?
i dont know it was just a suggestion..

There is also the felarya ventrillo server. You don't need a microphone to use it. There's a chat feature.

someone really aught to go into that chat program and comment out whatever kicks ou off in 10 minutes if we arent moving home pages anymore.

well i tried to log into IRC chat but failed.. and so do most other people.. what do you have to say about that?

I also find a lot of the Felarya-related chat services to be unusable, not sure why.
