| Ok, this is my idea for a creature native to Felarya: A shadow dweller is a creature that usually strives to possess a host, it can grant the host extra strength and agility, as well as special abilities. It only does this when it's in control of the host, which it can only achieve if in a certain level of darkness. The maximum amount of light being about the amount at late dusk, it can't take control if it is any brighter. It can flow into a host through direct contact, and has the ability to communicate directly with it's host via thoughts. It's shape when not in a host is unknown, when it's out on its own it can't leave darkness, thus it can't be seen by normal means. It has the ability to speak even when not in a host, and resides in the part of the host in entered through. Even when not in control it can move the part it is in and can speak through the host. The host has no control over the part that it is in and cannot even feel it. The skin is darkened where it resides and that dark tint spreads to the entire body when it's in control. Being a creature of darkness it has the ability to easily see in almost total darkness and can hid it self in shadows, as well as move from one to the other. It can also reshape the body of its host to suit the current situation. All of these special abilities can only be done when it is in control and use up a lot of energy.
Whew! I think thats everything. Drake is of course an example of a shadow dweller, for those of you who read my story.

| That's pretty strange. How common are they? | |

| These creatures seem very interesting. They remind me of "heartless" for some reason, but much cooler, of course.
I wonder if these guys could win in a fight with those mind controlling parasites.

I forgot to mention that, they're very rare. Most of them don't know that there are others of their kind.

| Of course not ^^; I thnik the whole concept of this semi-possession is interesting But I am wondering what are the purpose of shadow dwellers actually ? what do they aim to do, how do they feed , why controlling a host ? etc.. | |

| Sounds interesting. How do they get the energy required to shapeshift or control their host, though? | |

| Well, they get energy from the host as well as from darkness itself, however getting energy from the darkness doesn't stop it from wearing down the host. If the host gets worn out, they both lose consiciousness. The longer the shadow dweller has been in a host's body, the longer the body can go before it needs to rest. As for why they aim to control a host, it sort of is like a need to them. It's like food, except they could go on for decades without possessing someone, but it is uncomfortable for them not to be in a host. Almost like they are 'hungry' for a host, as it is about the same level of discomfort as hunger but it increases at a much slower rate than a normal creature neglecting food. It doesn't however actually 'feed' on it's host, just it takes energy from its host. And that should be everything I can say without spoilers. | |

| Appearently more than one can possess a host, provided there is room in the body. | |

I like this idea. It sounds really similar to a shadow-magic concept I've been working on in one of my original worlds. Except, with my concept of shadow-magic, the mage can actually eat people's shadows... <.< >.> That would be a tad counter-productive to Shadow Dwellers, wouldn't it?
