| Okay, ignoring that that's been happening over the last couple of days.
Just gonna hand out some kind suggestions, if that's fair with everyone ^^;
I'm not 100% sure how the new system on the group works, so I can't exactly approve of or go against it. Although before the voting was removed, I was considering writing a blog on the Group about how one should vote, like a set of rules: Just basic stuff like "Base on quality and adherence to Felarya, not on the person submitting." and various stuff. What we needed was a set of rules with real consequences for breaking. If someone votes against a piece because "Oh this person is a gayface lololol" then they could be revoked of their Contributor status. I was opposed to the vetoes on Sean's submissions solely due to his attitude. I wanted to call them out, but I decided to stay on the sidelines: a bad choice, I've decided.
Rules are always good, and as long as they aren't horridly draconian, then they are to be followed.
And yeah, I agree with Zion. Yes, compliments are nice, but I like critique. A lot of people do. Some people need critique. it's an important part of becoming a better artist. No need to be scathing; I riddle my critiques with compliments all the time. You can be as soft as you want, as long as you get the message across. If they start to get belligerent, it may be smart to just back off.
Noow, onto the forum. I have noticed a lot of frustration about certain new members. I understand that people are frustrated when they come in with characters either poorly suited for Felarya, or just flat out poorly designed. I think the answer is to be stern without being mean. Instead of saying "This idea is terrible," post flaws, fixes, and the like.
Now, I understand that some users just don't understand Felarya or refuse to implement fixes. I think at this point it should be said that their ideas continue to seriously contradict canon. Be fair about it, though: Link to the wiki, link to good examples and bad examples and explain why they are good or bad.
'Nother thing. Of course, there is always that one person who continues to fan flames or keep the drama train rolling for ridiculous or immature reasons (I won't name names). Now, returning fire won't solve anything. I feel it's up to the mods to tell someone when they cross the line, and make it perfectly clear that they crossed the line, and that if they continue, then there will be consequences.
Example:
-User X posts on a thread, and in the process, proceeds to call names, point fingers, and make groundless accusations. Sprinkle in some profanity for good measure, and you have a potential mess on your hands.
-Moderator Y then PMs User X, telling them that their post was inflammatory, and that it will not be tolerated.
-User X continues on his endeavor. People who tell him/her to calm down get flamed, more accusations are made, etc, etc.
-Moderator Y gives a second warning. One more, and there will be consequences.
-User X makes more groundless accusations. Maybe call someone a 'prick' or be sarcastic and all around mean.
-At this point, it should be brought up to Admin Z, who should then review the situation, and if need-be, pass down judgement.
---
Keep in mind that you don't necessarily need to disagree with User X. His intention can be good, but his message is too harsh. I've found myself trying to talk down people I agree with so they don't continue an argument. It's not a bad thing to tell a friend they're being irresponsible. I do it all the time. | |

Quite. I would say that's a fair and sensible procedure. Regarding this particular thread, I trust there will be no more unpleasantness, from anyone. If there is, we may move straight to "consequences". Incident closed. Back to the discussion. | |

| I'd like to say welcome back, even if I am a bit late. (Curse you Homestuck for being so addictive!) I would also like to say that I agree that critisism is quite good if used properly. I hope for it, as long as it is constructive. I understand I have a long way to go before I am anywhere close to my goal of skill, and having my mistakes pounted out helps, again, as long as they are honestly trying to be helpful. Still, it's good to have you back Karbs. (Yes, that is my new nickname for you Karbo.) | |

- ZionAtriedes, that's very true. It is hard to get a good critique on deviantart- whether the problem is too much sugar or just not being noticed. Stabs IS really good at it, though.
Oh, you... well, I'll try to give more critique then. I make it at home, takes too long. I'd already welcomed Karbo back on a PM- now the ball is in our field as for the problems he pointed. I'm reviewing right now my official assessment of the situation, before I say anything on that matter. Wouldn't want to spark anything. | |

Taunting wasn't my intention, though as a left-handed person, I may be a little prone to left-handed compliments. | |

| Ah well... at any rate, I'm thinking this should be ended before it gets worse.
At any rate, rules exist for a reason. If someone breaks one or more casually, it may send a bad image, and potentially serve to corrode order on the forum. As such, yeah, Krisexy should've been called out. However, Zion's method may have been a bit much, really... | |
