FAQ for the wiki?

So I've been talking with a few people. Apparently there are some confusing issues still around, including a regard for flexibility.

I recommend making a page where we can post FAQ's to people who might have trouble with one thing or another.

Especially when someone says something like:

"Can't have anything that might pose a threat to the world, that'll call in the guardians. Can't have sickness, that's impossible. Can't have anything from space. Can't have wars. Can't have anything undead. Can't do anything that would be interesting, you MUST stick to predator chases prey."

To which I would answer something like "many things can pose a threat to the world, issues that exist within the borders of it's own universe, space doesn't exist in felarya because the universe is a bubble around all the living space, wars happen between races and clans, but not very often. Examples are the Correctors, the Elven Empire, and the Dridder Empire."

I just think it might be a good idea. A lot of websites have FAQ sections to them anyway, regardless of whether my example was terrible. I believe it will benefit the wiki.

When someone thinks that Felarya is limited to "predator chases prey", it's either one of these two options:

1. That person didn't understand a thing of how varied stories set in Felarya can be.
2. This actually calls for answering some questions.

So, is there a need for a FAQ page? Maybe. At least just for people who have no idea of the setting to know what they can do and be sure that there is more than scenes taken from Tom and Jerry.

I personally think that for this very reason there should be an FAQ to help people out that's my thought on the matter at least.

I've been wondering for months why no one has ever thought up of a thread for Q&A I think someone should make one especially to help explain when some characters arrived in Felarya and what happened to people they became friends with before and after arrival.

Well, maybe. Though what I'm talking about is an FAQ page on the wiki. Most organizational websites have them.

That's what bios are for. A Q&A thread on that wouldn't be much good, since it'd just be a string of bios and links to stories that already exist. IF you want to find out about a character, read the story and/or ask the author.

What I would intend for a story Q&A thread is a place where people can ask if certain plot hooks, events and such actually make sense.

Actually, it does. What I was recommending was a Q&A thread for the kind of questions that you think should be answered in the FAQ. Sure, we can guess what people might frequently ask, but it's better if we have firsthand what is asked.

Q: Can I write a story where the Guardians seek my character?

A: In general, it isn't advisable to involve the Guardians in a story. Blah blah blah, explanation of the Guardians as a background force that wouldn't really see that one character as anything special.


Q: Do predators only eat humans?

A: Giant predators typically eat whatever they come across. Humans are not usually found in large enough quantities to warrant feeding only them, especially how vast Felarya truly is. There are some who will go out of their way to hunt humanoids, but those are uncommon.


Things like that, really.

That implies that most of the people who make those types of mistakes actually read the wiki in the first place.

I think the General Q and A thread is fine. If someone doesn't want to make the effort to look at the wiki and/or ask a question in a thread designed for Questions and Answers regarding the setting, well then they really must not care enough to get the help.

Besides, Karbo hates concrete rules of any kind, especially regarding stories. I mean, the twinkie theory never made it into the wiki for that exact reason, same with the estimates for common weapon effectiveness on giants.
