2 character ideas...

Not true. Felarya is a savage land, where creatures clash for survival daily. Humans can, will and have taken down predators on multiple occasions. It's pointless otherwise.

The concept of a human or human scale character who can take down predators is nothing new, and is definitely not a bad thing. Look at Jack Rye, or Fiona's parents, or the like.


What makes this character bland is the fact that it's something that we've all seen a million times before. Remember Dellman, of Rin's Adventures fame?

I'm not saying humans can't. Once again, replying to the comment that anti-tank weaponry is all you need to keep yourself safe.

Well in theroy it can, but most ATGMs need to be set up on a tripod, are beam riders or wire guided and usually require a two man crews beause of their bulk. Of course we have the RPGs and such, but they tend to use much lighter warheads. (Ok some use tandem HEAT warheads but this is flesh we are talking about, the damage inflicted wont be that much greater than a standard HEAT warhead.) Weapons like the RPG and LAW would be far more effective than say an assault rifle and other such weapons but if you are aiming to kill the preadator you would probably need to hit the eye or other obvious weak spots, but remember these weapons aren't exactly accruate and are one shot; fair enough blasting a hole in predator's chest or limb may drive it off, but if it doesn't or you miss; you wont get a second chance. Also these things are still bulky compared to small arms.

@GREGOLE: Could you name 2 others? Dellman, while similar, was severely hamstrung by the chain of command because he's in the Miratan Military, AND Dellman never piloted Mechs like these. Plus, we never see any other sides to his personality.

Dellman was also a good deal older than Geeran, which also grants me the opportunity for him to change as he tries to understand why his village was destroyed.

One major factor behind his hatred is that he does not see why the Predators would eat lifeforms that they can speak to and indeed socialise with. This is a betrayal of development in his eyes. He doesn't nessisarily hate them simply because they are predators, per-se, but it's an extention of a lack of understanding, although the revenge kicker is what makes his anger burn so intensely. In his eyes, doing this simply is just torture for it's own sake when there is an abundance of uncivilised lifeforms available to eat...

Also, a gigantic forest isn't the best place to run around with easy to ruin and heavy machinery.

I must agree with some posters that he seems a bit stereotypical in his personnality though.. Also maybe having him seeking endless revenge against what is basically a predatoy world, is limiting him a bit as a character ^^;

I think he meant 'the perils of the jungle', not 'The Jungle of Perils'

Well, as I write the fic, his character will evolve and change this dynamic, although in the beginning, this is who he is... a reckless, upset and very dangerous kid.
