Re-claiming The Lost Empty
PostSubject: Re-claiming The Lost   Re-claiming The Lost Icon_minitimeThu Mar 31, 2016 12:20 pm

Okay I was just in the chat box joking around with TU,Vaderaz and Darkone one and I used the oh so popular-at-one-time "Fucking Shark" joke on Dark....and he didn't get it. I knew why ofcourse: It was removed from the Wiki by it's author. I mean that happens right? Tis why I had to re-think an idea called "Fucking Raiders' which would have possibly added water based shark riding bandits to the list of Felarya's water based dangers. >_- Again...This happens......BUT WHY SHOULD IT?! Seriously. Some of it is already tied into places where it'd be hard to unwind like Tome 4: Deep Water Troubles and some of it is just a loss of a good resource like the city where humans and harpies lived in relative harmony! There's a few others I could rattle off but I'll leave to you to add to this list as I'm here not to bitch but to find a way to ustilize 'carbons' of these ideas. Or at least to posit that would could.

What is a carbon? It's a term I made up for characters and ideas that are oh-so-obviously a 'idea' created from something pre-existing. I mean most stuff is right? But Carbons are more on the nose than comparing Rasengan to Kamehameha or Gundam to Transformers. Why would we want to 'carbonize' our ideas and get them back? Well for once it means allot less editing and for two it means we'd have more access to some creative resources if we even could make versions of less than half the missing articles. Also the wiki would be fuller? Can anyone argue against that? So yeah there's my proposal.

Well no the author didn't asked for the sharks to be removed. Actually i'm not really sure why they're not here anymore ^^;  It's easy to restore them though.
In the case of Thorin ( the human and harpies city ) though, yes it was at the demand of the author.

What?! You mean the Mystery of the Fucking Shark is ACTUALLY a mystery? O_O; Wow. I wonder if they Wiki didn't have dimensional shift now. As for reclaiming Torin I think we more or less need to reclaim in the idea behind it. Humans and Harpies working together and the fact we had a nice city in the Shimmering Sea. I liked that. I also liked the sword and sandal elements. I think we can 'learn' from it and make a facsimile. That's the purpose of this thread. To 'reclaim' ideas

...Ok, after three re-reads and thanks to Karbo's response, I think I grok this. I believe Jedi-Explorer is suggesting that we take ideas that used to be Felaryan canon but, at the request of the original author, were removed from the canon (I'm guessing this is all pre-2009 copyright change), and make similar lawyer-friendly versions of them to put back into canon. I'll admit, though, that this seems rather rude; after all, the author did request to have the concepts removed from canon. Trying to put them back, even if we avoid possible legal ramifications, is just a dick move.

I agree with gamma, the best thing you need to go about this is make a new idea based on the old one in respect to it, but obviously, you aren't going to copy everything about the idea. Some of the core of it and traits should be different enough to where you can say you got inspiration from but to keep it highly original.
