This is a thread about various recent movies, for discussion.
Has anyone seen The Last Airbender or The Dispicable Me?
And is TLA as bad as they say?

Haven't seen either, but regardless I am looking forward to DEspicable me.
Might be because I have a soft spot for those old school villains.

Well, let's all face it, there was no way in Heaven and Hell you could make a faithful adaptation of "Avatar: The Last Airbender" in only three or two hours, however long the film was. Should have followed the LotR formula and go for multiple movies.

Since its a M. Night Shyamalan, is there a twist in the movie?

Agreed. It's a wonder they didn't.

Despicable me is a Cute family show. there's not one second u won't get bored of it unless you don't have a sensitive caring side(also funny)
new twilight isn't bad. even to the point that most my guy friends actually said it was okay.
Predator is the movie if u want action. but a...ending that leaves u slightly hanging (least for me)
Inception is crazy (in a fascinating way)
As for avatar. the only good thing i can give it for is the fight-scenes. Other then that it should have gone with the lotr setup

I have a friend who's dad worked in the entertainment business. He organized interviews with fans coming out of the first screening of Avatar:TLA.
His boss apparently was irritated he only recorded the negative fan reviews.
However, my friend's dad had to explain that there were ONLY negative fan reviews.
'Nuff said.

Not big surprise.

Hah. Last air bender on rottentomatos.com. There is only ONE review that didn't give it a rotten tomato.

Indeed. The movie is disappointing. Especially coming from a director that has done some great stuff. (I love Unbreakable).

Pff. After Unbreakable M. Night Shamalamadingdong appears to have gone, to be blunt, fucking insane.

haven't seen the last airbender, or despicable me, but I DID see the karate kid.
THAT was an excellent movie. Loved the adaption from the old one.

I haven't seen it yet, personally, but I'd imagine those who see it without any knowledge of the series may seem, what's a good word.... oblivious to the inaccuracies and apparent flaws in this adaption of the story, as with all film adaptions of other media. Like I said, I didn't see it, so I can't be sure, exactly D:

You mean that the firebenders carried lamps?
That's terrible. I mean, it causes so many more problems than it solves, they should have just let that be.

TLA was awful. People who went with no prior knowlege of the show were confused, and fans of the show were upset with the stupid changes Shamalamadingdong put in. Aside from poor pacing (scenes suddenly leaping around, etc) the child actors were just horrible - I know they're just kids, but the performances were really wooden and awkward, to the point that I felt embarrassed for the kids as people in the cinema laughed at unintentionally hilarious lines. Here's an actual scene from the movie, if you don't take my word for it.
On the bright side though, Toy Story 3 is fucking awesome. Go watch it.
