“Mine!”–Senka, snatching a scrap of food.
Personality:“She’s like a little sister. A bratty, annoying, motormouth of a little sister. Seriously. Does she EVER stop talking?”–An aggravated neko, describing Senka after a day of being followed around along the coast.
The first thing anyone would notice upon interacting with Senka is her upbeat, bubbly personality, shortly followed by the realization that that by no means makes her a particularly nice or caring individual. As is common with harpies, she tends towards a cruder, more aggressive vocabulary, and to some extent, that does result in her coming across as meaner than she actually is–but she also has a definite cruel streak. She may not enjoy causing injury to others, but she does take a certain pleasure in their frustrations when she steals from them. A related habit that is less cruel is her tendency to annoy people for fun. She’s been known to follow adventurers, travelers, and even slower predators around, bugging them with incessant chatter and taunting. So far, this habit has only landed her in major trouble a handful of times, and only once was she actually seriously injured; this track record is testament to her speed and agility, especially (but, after being grounded for a while, not only) when airborne, along with a surprisingly good intuition for danger. While she might come across as something of a birdbrain due to her shorter attention span and general lack of long-term planning ability, she can be rather cunning when she wants to be.
Senka is a scavenger, and most of the food she eats is stolen from someone else. Her flock, if such a loose group can be called such, is nomadic, and often finds itself traveling far inland. Humanoid settlements are often good sources of food to steal, and while Senka has never been to a proper city, she’s been around the outskirts of large towns often enough to be relatively comfortable in urban environments as well as both Felarya’s large forests and her native open ocean sky. While Senka prefers the company of others, she hasn’t really bonded with anyone in particular; her flock is so large and unorganized that she rarely interacts with the same flockmates when they congregate. Senka just likes to be near others, mostly regardless of who they are. She especially enjoys those that make an attempt to include her in their activities, and she’ll try most anything she thinks sounds fun or interesting. Those who don’t want to interact with her almost invariably wind up as the targets of her bugging. Those who have met her tend to describe her as fun to be around when you want her around, and aggravating when you don’t.
Physical Appearance:“It’s shiny, but how would I wear it?”–Senka, waving a webbed foot at a traveller trying to exchange jewelry for food Senka stole from them.
As with any harpy, Senka has both the wings and the legs of a bird; in her case, an Earth-taught ornithologist would recognize her appearance as closest to that of a gull. Her messy shoulder-length hair is the same medium bluish grey as the tops of her wings, while her leg feathers and the undersides of her wings are both white. The tips of her outer wing feathers are black. A lifetime of roaming has given her skin a medium tan, and a lack of easily available food keeps her lean, with very little fat to cover the moderate amount of muscle tone she does have. None of these traits really set her apart physically from the rest of her flock, but there’s little mistaking the large scar on her right shoulder. The result of a close call with a mantoid, the injury left her unable to fly for a few moons.
History:“Ever been to Milkadis Temple? It’s surprisingly fun! All sorts of old stuff!”–Senka, to a group of adventurers studiously trying, with varying degrees of success, to ignore her.
Senka doesn’t remember where she was born, nor does she know her father. As long as she’s been alive, her flock has been on the move, flying all over southern Felarya in search of food sources. While her flock tends to stay near the ocean, when food gets scarce for even a few days they’ll head inland, sometimes going quite a ways. They’ve been chased away from Negav, a multitude of smaller towns and villages, and even the abandoned Vishmital outpost. Many humanoids see them as akin to a plague of locusts, as the large flock is willing to harass even giant predators to strip the area clean of all food. It’s also not uncommon for individual harpies or small groups to split from the flock for a time before rejoining, as Senka tends to do.
