One of my favorite tracks from "Trinity and Beyond": Hiroshima/Nagasaki Requiem. It is a score inspired by the bombings of the two cities. When I listen to it, in the context of Felarya, it leads one to imagine the ultimate destruction of Ur-Sagol; considering the state of the ruins, while aged by thousands of years, clearly the Guardians wrought terrible havoc-truly, it was Ragnarok for that great city.
However, history often repeats itself; I think all major cities eventually overstep their bounds, ending in cataclysmic destruction.

Yes, I see why you would link this song to Ur-Sagol's destruction... especially considering the footage that was playing in the movie alongside this music.
(For those of you who haven't seen this movie, go see it. It's narrated by William Shatner (Captain Kirk)! )

One of the things that can be generally overlooked when thinking of songs are national anthems. The Russian Federation's national anthem is generally within most people's top three, if not their top five. I'm not sure, but I would say that Negav, Ur-Sagol, Kelerm, etc all have a 'national anthem' of sorts, but just what it would be is an interesting thought topic to me. Picturing just what they would envision for their anthems is an interesting thought, given the nature of their environments and the overall mindset of their peoples.
Spoiler:
Seek me, call me I'll be waiting
This distance, this dissolution I cling to memories while falling Sleep brings release, and the hope of a new day Waking the misery of being without you
Surrender, I give in Another moment is another eternity
(Seek me) For comfort, (Call me) For solace (I'll be waiting) For the end of my broken heart (Seek me) Completion, (Call me) I'll be waiting (I'll be waiting) For the end of my broken heart
You know me, you know me all too well My only desire - to bridge our division
In sorrow I speak your name And my voice mirrors my torment
(Seek me) For comfort, (Call me) For solace (I'll be waiting) For the end of my broken heart (Seek me) Completion, (Call me) I'll be waiting (I'll be waiting) For the end of my broken heart
Am I breathing? My strength fails me Your picture, a bitter memory
For comfort, for solace (Seek me) For comfort, (Call me) For solace (I'll be waiting) For the end of my broken heart (Seek me) Completion, (Call me) I'll be waiting (I'll be waiting) For the end of my broken heart
^ Probably one of the better things associated with a RE movie, this song is something I feel appropriate to those that manage to survive their stints in Felarya but lose someone important to them in the process.
These next three are motivational pieces that I find tend to fit in with pieces of Felarya. They are also things I tend to think of when I picture some of the events in Arc 1. Which I'm nowhere close to writing yet, le sigh.
Spoiler:
Give me strength to face the truth The doubt within my soul No longer I can justify The bloodshed in his name
Is it a sin to seek the truth, the truth beneath the rose? Pray with me so I will find the gate to Heaven’s door I believed it would justify the means It had a hold over me
Blinded to see The cruelty of the beast Here is the darkest side of me (Forgive me my sins)
The field of my dreams Deceived all I have seen Forgive me for what I have been (Forgive me my sins)
Pray for me 'cause I have lost my faith in holy wars This paradise denied to me 'cause I can't take no more
Has darkness taken over me Consumed my mortal soul? All my virtues sacrificed Can Heaven be so cruel?
I believed it would justify the means It had a hold over me (Forgive me my sins)
Blinded to see The cruelty of the beast Here is the darkest side of me (Forgive me my sins)
The field of my dreams Deceived all I have seen Forgive me for what I have been (Forgive me my sins)
I'm hoping, I'm praying I won't get lost between two hearts Follow a sin The truth lies in between
Give me the strength to face the wrong that I have done Now that I know The darkest side of me
How can blood be your salvation And justify the pain That we have caused throughout the times
Will I learn what's truly sacred Will I redeem my soul Will truth set me free
Blinded to see The cruelty of the beast Here is the darkest side of me (Forgive me my sins)
The field of my dreams Deceived all I have seen Forgive me for what I have been (Forgive me my sins)

I can see when you stay low nothing happens Does it feel right?
Late at night things I thought I'd put behind me haunt my mind
I just know there's no escape now once it's set its eyes on you but I won't run, have to stare it in the eye
Stand my ground, I won't give in No more denying, I gotta face it Won't close my eyes and hide the truth inside If I don't make it, someone else will Stand My Ground
It's all around getting stronger, coming closer into my world
I can feel that it's time for me to face it can I take it?
Though this might just be the ending of the life I held so dear but I won't run, there's no turning back from here
Stand my ground, I won't give in No more denying, I gotta face it Won't close my eyes and hide the truth inside If I don't make it, someone else will Stand My Ground
All I know for sure is I'm trying I will always stand my ground
Stand my ground, I won't give in (I won't give in) I won't give up (I won't give up) no more denying, I got to face it won't close my eyes and hide the truth inside if I don't make it, someone else will
Stand my ground, I won't give in No more denying, I gotta face it Won't close my eyes and hide the truth inside If I don't make it, someone else will Stand My Ground.
Spoiler:
Dry your eyes and quietly bear this pain with pride For heaven shall remember the silent and the brave And promise me they will never see, the fear within our eyes (my eyes are closed) We will give strength to those who still remain
So bury fear, for fate draws near And hide the signs of pain With noble acts, the bravest souls Endure the heart's remains Discard regret, that in this debt A better world is made That children of a newer day might remember And avoid our fate
(I've waited all day in the pouring rain, but nobody came, no, nobody came)
And in the fury of this darkest hour We will be your light You've asked me for my sacrifice And I am Winter born Without denying, a faith is come That I have never known I hear the angels call my name And I am Winter born
Hold your head up high-for there is no greater love Think of the faces of the people you defend (you defend) And promise me, they will never see the tears within our eyes (my eyes are closed) Although we are men, with mortal sins, angels never cry
So bury fear, for fate draws near And hide the signs of pain With noble acts, the bravest souls Endure the heart's remains Discard regret, that in this debt A better world is made That children of a newer day might remember And avoid our fate
And in the fury of this darkest hour We will be your light You've asked me for my sacrifice And I am Winter born Without denying, a faith in God That I have never known I hear the angels call my name And I am Winter born
And in the fury of this darkest hour I will be your light A lifetime for this destiny For I am Winter born And in this moment..I will not run It is my place to stand We few shall carry hope Within our bloodied hands (bloodied hands) And in our Dying, we're more alive-than we have ever been I've lived for these few seconds For I am Winter born
And in the fury of this darkest hour We will be the light You've asked me for my sacrifice And I am Winter born Without denying, a faith in man That I have never known I hear the angels call my name And I am Winter born
Within this moment now I am for you, though better men have failed I will give my life for love For I am Winter born And in my dying I'm more alive, than I have ever been I will make this sacrifice For I am Winter born
Nightwish - The Escapist. This song just fits in Felarya. Not to mention its by my fav band. Bloody impossible finding a first rate recording of it live though online to share.
Spoiler:
Who's there knocking at my window? The Owl and the Dead Boy This night whispers my name All the dying children
Virgin snow beneath my feet Painting the world in white I tread the way and lose myself into a tale
Come hell or high water My search will go on Clayborn Voyage without an end
A nightingale in a golden cage That's me locked inside reality's maze Come someone make my heavy heart light Come undone bring me back to life It all starts with a lullaby
Journey homeward bound A sound of a dolphin calling Tearing off the mask of man The Tower my sole guide This is who I am Escapist, paradise seeker Farewell now time to fly Out of sight, out of time, away from all lies
A nightingale in a golden cage That's me locked inside reality's maze Come someone make my heavy heart light Come undone bring me back to life It all starts with a lullaby

"China Gets the Bomb", a different track ultimately based on the one I posted, because of it's similar-but-different feel, in the context of Felarya can be seen as a prediction of Negav's future.

Most humans may get used to the way of things in Felarya...this song, however, I think captures the mental state of those who can't. The song is a tribute to Lovecraft's mythos; and Lovecraft's greatest strengths was in capturing unspeakable horrors. The depths of madness, which some humans succumb to in Felarya, may have the effect of encountering the Elder Ones with one's own eyes. If you want an image, imagine a human in a Negavian insane asylum, in a padded room, gibbering to himself-he saw a predator swallow every member of his team. He's now incurably insane-alternating between laughing, crying, raging, while babbling gibberish.

A dragon has come to our village today We have asked him to leave, but he won't go away Now he's met with our king, and they've made out a deal No homes will he burn, and no crops will he steal
Now there is but one catch, we dislike it a bunch twice a year he invites him a virgin to lunch we have no other choice, so the deal we'll respect we can't help but wonder and pause to reflect
Do virgins taste better than those who are not? Are they salty or sweet or more juicy or what? Do you savor them slowly, gulp them down on the spot? Do virgins taste better than those who are not?
Now we'd like to be shed you, and many have tried. But no one can get through your thick scaly hide. We hope that some day, some brave knight will come by. 'Cause we can't wait around 'til you're too fat to fly.
Now you have such good taste in your women for sure They always are pretty, always are pure But you're notion of dining it makes us all flinch You're favorite entree is barbecued wench (mine too!)
Do virgins taste better than those who are not? Are they salty or sweet or more juicy or what? Do you savor them slowly, gulp them down on the spot? Do virgins taste better than those who are not?
Now I found a solution, it works out so neat If you insist on nothing but virgins to eat No more will our number ever grow small We'll simply make sure theres no virgins at all
Do virgins taste better than those who are not? Are they salty or sweet or more juicy or what? Do you savor them slowly, gulp them down on the spot? Do virgins taste better than those who are not?
Now, I am a dragon, please listen to me For I'm misunderstood to a dreadful degree. This ecology needs me and I know my place, But I'm fighting extinction with all of my race.
Well, I came to this village to better my health Which is shockingly poor, despite all my wealth. But I get no assistance and no sympathy, Just impertinent questioning shouted at me.
Yes, virgins taste better than those who are not. But my favorite snack food with peril is fraught. For my teeth will decay and my trim go to pot. Yet virgins taste better than those who are not.
Well, I'm really quite good almost all through the year. Vegetarian ways are now mine out of fear. But a birthday needs sweets as I'm sure you'll agree. And barbecued wench tastes like candy to me!
As it happens our interests are almost the same. For I'm really quite skillful at managing game. If I ate just your men, would your excess decline? Of course not, the rest would just make better time
Yes, virgins taste better than those who are not But my favorite snack food with peril is fraught. For my teeth will decay and my trim go to pot. Yet virgins taste better than those who are not.
But the number of babies a woman can bear Has a limit, and that's why my pruning's done there. Yet an orphan's a sad sight and so when I munch. I'm careful to take only virgins for lunch.

Whenever I hear this song, especially the S&M orchestral performance, I imagine a damned soul being dragged to a beckoning, eager, and hungry succubus...but the lyrics seem equally appropriate to Vivian. You decide

When thinking of running for your life, the following song always comes to my mind.
And when thinking of a mysterious forest (like maybe the Forest of Whispers or something like that) I think of the next song.
I also imagine the next song playing when confronted by a more sadistic predator (like a Dridder) or perhaps incurring the wrath of some divine creature or something.
I also imagine some arrangement or another of this song when thinking of a seasoned adventurer, well, adventuring in the forest. Most likely an orchestrated version. Or maybe the 16-bit version that appeared in ALttP.
I imagine the next song playing in a more dangerous part of Felarya but with the same core concept as the one above.

I first discovered this song via Fallout 3. With a few tweaking, one could make it into a song about a human (perhaps Mezzus?) who is quite happy with his new life in Kortiki. Or, perhaps, the song essentially captures the over all gist of Lea's attitude to human civilization as opposed to her life in the jungle.
