Prickler

Extremely similar to the Groomer, the Prickler has evolved to almost perfectly mimic the former creature to provide itself a constant supply of food. Instead of grooming for parasites, a Prickler will gouge wounds in the skin of larger creatures to lap on blood and chunks of flesh, and outright kill small ones like nekos and humans to suck them dry of precious blood. This of course has a detrimental effect on colonies of actual Groomers, and may lead to their abandonment by other creatures

A Prickler can only be distinguished from a Groomer via their larger pincers, which are dotted with barely-perceptible spines, and their mottled red underside

Morphlotus

A rare plant found in the great marshes. It appears to be a strange combination of a lily pad and a clover, with a large, light purple flower whose petals have a remarkable "cotton-like" texture. The extracts obtained from the Morphlotus have a fast-acting anesthesizing effect, and they are the primary ingredient in tranquilizers and painkillers across Felarya. Harvesting it is not easy, however, since a Morphlotus is a very delicate plant, and many creatures and predators tend to seek it when in need of wounds to numb or a much-needed nap

Because I had to do it sooner or later...

Komodotaurs

Half-human, half komodo dragon/monitor lizard tauric creatures. Among the largest of the squamataur race, these corpulent behemoths are specially feared for their effects of their noxious saliva. A cornucopia of infectious bacteria and unique poisons ensures that even the smallest bite from a Komodotaur will quickly infect and weaken prey, and they can easily follow dying quarry for long until it finally falls dead. Komodotaurs have ravenous appetites and will hunt any creature they can catch, even far larger than themselves, but fortunately they have a great preference for carrion and kills stolen from smaller predators. They are also pretty fond of elves and easily recognize their smell anywhere

Komodotaurs are creatures of instinct. As they wander around they constantly slobber and taste the air and sway their heads from side to side, hoping to detect carrion or other delectable food sources. Tough scales, reinforced with bone, are specially sensitive to touch and aid in their exploring. Though they stay in sibling groups for the first years of their life, they are competitive among each other and fights often ensue for food, with the larger specimens being the first to eat. A Komodotaur is patient and straight to the point, if callous. They believe in raw strenght as the key for survival and have the bulk to back it up. They are wanderers with no fixated habitat, but they are more comfortable in hot and arid environments, and a typical Komodotaur tends to return to its birthplace from time to time.

Very resilient and resistant to magic, Komodotaur numbers are very limited by their solitary nature and the fact adults happily engage in cannibalism

Boroceros

A stocky, hardy donkey-like creature, the Boroceros is a 70-foot tall herbivore easily recognized for the three curved horns running along their snout and forehead, as well as bony ridges that vary wildly between individuals. A common sight in arid environments such as the Great Rocky Fields, the Boroceros move around in small family packs feeding on grass and tough shrubbery. With poor sight but excellent hearing, they are very defensive and tend to blindly charge at the first sign of danger.

Thanks! But I don't really get what you mean with that. Are they too detailed or grounded-in-reality or something? scratch

EDIT: Also went and expanded the Komodotaurs more, at Anime-Junkie's suggestion

Again, how can they be "notoriously", as in "well known" resistant to magic if they are rare? That would imply that knowledge about them is common.

Gugsheeg

A creature that arrived to Felarya from another dimension. With "wingspans" of over 30 feet, Gugsheegs are rarely seen and tough to describe, since they seem to exist in a state of frenzied movement and inmediately disintegrate when killed, leaving behind only a smell reminiscent of rotten cinnamon. What can be made out about them is that they're very abstract beings, flapping madly through the skies with what seem to be wing-like flaps of skin, with dazzling colors that are invariably described as hurting the eyes of onlookers. They don't seem to react to any kind of sound, but they are constantly shrieking with a sound not unlike clattering of frying pans.

Oddly enough, it seems to feed only on giant butterflies.

Babwark

Somewhere between a cassowary and a domestic turkey, the Babwark is a small flightless bird that has become pretty common around the jungles and plains in Felarya, using trees or tall grass to cower themselves from larger predators. Omnivorous, they constantly claw and peck at the ground in search of seeds and insects, but they also are known to feed on larger prey items such as muris and micrats.

Babwarks live in small flocks of a single adult male and several females and their chicks. The “rooster” is easily recognizable, not just through brightly coloured feathers and a more prominent crest, but because of a massive throat sack that is used in displays and to emit their trademark booming yell, for which the species is named. While hens and their young are very passive and timid, males have boisterous and noisy natures and easily become aggressive.

Babwarks are popularly raised in Felarya as other worlds would raise chicken, and their nutritious eggs are a staple in the diet of many human settlements. Their meat, while equally nourishing, is very stringy and lacking in flavour, and as such it is commonly served as part of bigger dishes.

Mhh what I mean is that I feel you tend to concentrate a bit too much on making the creature unique and original, rather than having it fits in its environment. Having an unique creature is great of course ! but in that case it makes them feel just a little random ^^;

I guess I can use it as my argument against people who try too hard to be unique. It's good, but at the same time, they stick out like a sore thumb and run the risk of feeling out of place. Very Happy

A matter of being careful then XD

Then lesseee...

Gleam Clam

Freshwater mussels of variable size that are specially abundant in the Jewel River, gathering in clusters across the riverbed. Though of little culinary value, they are very sought after for their precious shells, which seem to mimic the local gems and grow to spectacular colors and shapes the older the specimen is. Thought they don't reach prices as high as real gems or Jewel Fish, they are regardless in great demand and tend to be used as low currency or in jewelry

Gleam Clams serve as food for many aquatic creatures in the vicinity, and they themselves are filter-feeders, spending their larval phase as parasites in the gills of exovoles and other large fish

..been thinking if these would fit more in the Chordoni Waterfalls, since that one is verily lacking in fauna. What do you think?

Also sorry for the pun-age, couldn't think on a better name Laughing

Uuluu

Baby-sized toads that dwell in the Chordoni Waterfalls. With rugged hides that resemble mossy rock and strong sucker-toes to resist the force of the water, Uuluus are very hard to spot when they stay still and use this to their advantage when catching prey like small fish, insect larvae or glittersquids. Their heads are small in proportion to their bodies and as such they can only catch one victim at a time, but they're very gluttonous amphibians and can easily gorge on dozens of the little squids each day. Ironically, the leaf-shaped tadpoles are a regular on the diet of glittersquids themselves. Adults are also preyed on by emerald phoenixes, who tend to be smart enough to see through their disguise.

By night, Uuluus emerge to the surface to breed, and their repetitive calls sound like melodious theramins. Vivian is known to occasionally approach and listen to these "orchestras", and the little amphibians appear unperturbed by her presence

Hm....Females could incubate the eggs in their back and if you caught one you could see them bulging with tadpole-filled gelatinous boils

I could also see them being hunted for food, since all the calamari they eat would make them stuffed and tastier

Mugol

2 feet-long fish that resemble large-headed mullets with trout colour patterns. Very common in rivers all over Felarya, Mugols are a staple in the diet of many, many creatures, including humans and specially nekos. Thought very unremarkable as far as Felaryan fauna goes, they are almost legendary for their massive migrations. At the hottest time of the year Mugols all over Felarya set out to the Topazial Sea to breed and lay their eggs, and the rivers and streams nearly burst with the little fish as they tirelessly swim onwards. This is a time few predators can resist, and for many days waterways all over the world find themselves crowded by creatures big and small, tauric or not, gathering for the lure of fresh meat. There is little conflict when such amount of food abounds, and many predators have even adapted to have their breeding season match with the journey of the Mugols, making sure there's plenty of sustenance for their younglings

Humans and nekos have learned to exploit this "Mugol season" to spread out as much as they can, and the numbers of fishing boats and wandering explorers swell considerably on those days. The season is widely considered to be among the safer times to be in Felarya, since the giant races tend to have their bellies full and be in good humour.

Mugol meat is very sweet and tender, with a curious salty after-taste

Piper Bell

An enormous flower of droopy mauve petals whose stern can grow to amazing heights and often tends to split up into several buds at the top. The Piper Bell seems fairly harmless as it hangs almost lifelessly, but it is actually waiting for the car-sized lbutterfly-like symbionts it produces from its bud each morning. The short lived spawn will spend every minute of the day seeking and gorging on food of all kinds, mostly small animals and carrion, and those that manage to survive to the end of the day will be summoned back to the Piper with an eerie flute-like song to be consumed.

Piper Bells also use their symbionts for reproductive purposes, each one of them able to pollinate other Pipers like real butterflies would

Mandrak Willow

A large-sized tree of low-hanging branches with vivid yellow spiraled leaves and a reddish, crooked trunk. Many find them a disturbing sight, for their fruits are eerily shaped like a human figure and have the colour and texture of raw meat. This is all an elaborate adaptation to attract giant predators, whose gluttony will ensure that the tree's spawn will spread all over the region. It is so heavily evolved towards this purpose that the seeds can't actually germinate until they have passed through a predator's digestive tract. The flowers vaguely resemble rusted banana peels

Zicu

Plump and fuzzy flies the size of a gumdrop with heads resembing water goggles. Females are wingless and spend their entire lives on the bodies of Achigates and Slug Girls, swimming and feeding on their slime. These and the larvae are spread between individuals by contact, or when one passes over the slime trail of another. Males on the other hand feed on nectar, only landing on the gastropoids to find a mate.

Being completely harmless and colorful, both Slug Girls and Achigates tend to view Zicus as adorable little pets, and often keep around enormous collections crawling on their bodies

Sand Weasel

7-foot long lizards that have adapted to life in the Sandfall Maze, possesing paddle-like toes to swim through sand, dark scales to resist the heat and golden eyes covered with thick membranes to shield them from the glare of the sun. While they typically feed on small animals and invertebrates, they usually follow larger predators in small schools, hoping to scavenge scraps from their kills. They are very persistent and strong enough to bring a human down, but are timid and easily startled, and don't pose a threat to smaller races unless one is wounded and alone among them. Or is a tiny

Hopgoblin

Considered even more annoying than the loathed Clobbersaurus, the Hopgoblins of the Jungle of Perils are toddler-sized amphibious critters with bright purple skin. Thought small and frail, they are extremely mischievous beings possesing a devilish, cunning intelligence and bottomless energy for wrongdoing. Hopgoblins delight in bullying and tormenting creatures big or small, picking apart complex devices, pulling cruel pranks on adventurers, stealing and hiding objects they believe to be important, and generally engaging in childish acts of vandalism. They are specially problematic in large numbers, but thankfully they are as cowardly as they are naughty, and bright lights or loud sounds of any kind will send them scampering away and screaming in fear.

Hopgoblins follow a diet of fruit, insects and frog eggs, only really using their sharp incisors when cornered. Any object hitting their bodies will invariably make a hollow, metallic sound, and they have the curious habit of walking around as if they're wading in high water.
