| So, I'm considering reincarnating this. However I'm not going to do a wiki, instead I thought that I'd take the most popular part of the previous project, the unofficial character section and run with that, making a Felarya Flash Character database. This database is for non-canon characters. It will allow people to rapidly search though existing characters to find characters for their stories, allowing deeper integration of the community. Instead of people having to make side characters all the time, they can use existing side characters. Much like the concept of the Character Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Thread. This application will enable that to realised much more easily. In addition, once there's a search-by-tag function, people can avoid making characters that are really similar because they will be able to find existing characters with the same traits. This database would include the following features: - Browse characters by alphabetical name
- Browse by species
- Browse by characterisation tag (eg; "blonde" would list all the characters with blonde hair, "sexy" would list all the characters described as sexy).
Once the above had been implemented, an overarching search function. When designing this I wouldn't use the same size as the Flash wiki, it was too small and hard to use. The dimensions were too restricting. If you want to have your characters put in here, please use this thread and post links to your character bio. Also, if you could include any characterisation tags for your characters, that would be great too. I'd also be coding this in Actionscript 3. (The Flash wiki was coded in actionscript 2). What this means is I can apply CSS to text and load text and images much more efficiently. The upshot of that is everything looks really pretty, loads faster and is generally better.
- Old stuff:
Project TerminatedDue to disinterest. Exactly what it says on the box. The wiki, compressed into flash format which is easily embedded in pages (especially forum pages). Current Version:
The flash you see above is taken directly from the SVN. It is always the latest verision. Beta will begin at version 0.5 I've chosen these dimensions (650 x 150) because it allows it to be easily embedded in the forum.
Development Team:
- Anime-Junkie (aka VoreVictim)
- Oldman40k2003
Currently Working on:
- Adding 'Unoffical characters to the flash wiki'
As I finish each section, I will create a specialist mini-flash wiki. These will now be done on completion of the main Flash wiki The first one is up, in forum-friendly form.
dA Page for Fauna Subsection
to embed this in a forum page, enter this code into your post: - Code:
-
[flash(650,150)]http://fc02.deviantart.com/fs51/f/2009/285/2/4/Felarya_Flash_Wiki__Fauna_by_VoreVictim.swf[/flash] UPDATE
The flash wiki is now in a SVN repository! Here's a link to the page Having this in a SVN will allow others to work on this project with ease. On that note, I need people to assist with this. The SVN will allow us to keep updated on any modifications others have made to the project, as well as updating the flash itself. To contribute to this, you must have a google account (like gmail) registered. If you don't, they're free to register and easy to use. Email me vorevictim@gmail.com once you've registered and I'll add you to the project committers. Editing access will be restricted. The people who will be allowed are anyone who can currently edit the wiki. If you are a wiki member, please join this project
I need people to create and update these files with the latest from the wiki. This will involve copying text from the wiki, removing all those [edit] tags and other URLs and and committing the file to the SVN repository. To do this you'll need an SVN client, unles you're well versed in SSH. Which not many of us are. (Myself included.) The best windows SVN client is tortoiseSVN Which is free

| Thanks for your support! I've decided to release each section as a individual flash as I complete them in the main wiki. Chech my main post for details. | |

| Okay, I gotta admit this thing seems pretty nifty. A little bare-bones, but this is the first draft afterall. Its looking really good so far. I don't know if Karbo could stick this on the forum homepage or not (I imagine its possible)...but that would be an awesome place for something like this, right on the forum front page as a quick referrence guide for people to look at without having to bring up the wiki. | |

Yes it is bare-bones, the later versions will be a bit more fleshed out. I'm a bit wary of including the images from the wiki or lots of embellishments, since it would bloat the size of the flash by a fair amount. - rcs619 wrote:

Thanks. - rcs619 wrote:

There is going to be a forum version (Basically, it will be colour matched for the forum). See the fauna sub-section wiki in my top post for an idea of what it will be like. One of the reasons I'm making sub-wikis as will as the main one is that I had the idea that they could be embedded in forum topics related to that subject (eg, in a topic about felaryan fauna, the fauna sub-wiki would be embedded in the top post) It should be possible for Karbo to embed the flash wiki on the front page, but I don't know the customisation options provided by the host.

| Does the flash actually take the text from the site? or do you manually copy it in? because if its the latter, then your gonna have a problem in future with articles not up to date, unless you plan on constantly updating new information into your flash? | |

Yes, it's the latter. I'm aware of the work needed to keep it up to date. I dunno exactly how to make it get text from the site, but I'm sure it would require the site to be modified to allow for it.

In other news, locations is 88% added to the flash wiki! What section should I do next?

Great job I'll definitely put the thread as a sticky if you wish so ^_^ Thanks! Sticky-ing this thread would be great. As for keeping it up-to-date, that problem is almost solved. I have found a way for the flash file to load the text from external files in a SVN repository. I just need people to keep the text files up-to-date. Oldman40k2003 has already 'signed up' for that. (The SVN is hosted by google, so a google account, such as gmail, is needed). Here's a link to the felarya google code page.

| Locations has been added to the Flash Wiki, Rejoice! A Locations Subsection mini flash wiki will be along shortly. In other news, beta testers are needed. Beta testing the flash wiki pretty much consists of going through and clicking on every button, checking that text loads properly. If some text fails to load or buttons don't work, please send d me a note and the issue will be addressed. If you want to go a bit more in depth beta testing, you can go through the completed sections (fauna, locations stc) and make sure I've got every article (there have been times when I've made the articles, but forgotten to add a button lining to it). People who do this will be credited in the Flash wiki credits. Thanks in advance. | |

Locations Subsection Wiki on deviantART
Now that I've done locations and fauna, what section should I do next?

| I've just done a brief look through, and there are a few glitches I was able to find. - The Grove of Carnivorous Plants entry is blank.
- Clicking on Great marshes makes it go mad, showing several different entries for a few seconds before going back to the start page.
- In Ryzelm'oire, the Bazaar entry does nothing when clicked on.
- When in the Negav category, there is no button for going back to locations, unlike other categories of that level such as Sea Depths.
- In the entries under Negav ( Isolon Eye etc.) the button for going back to the Negav category does not work.

I knew that there were some glitches, Thanks for finding them. They've been fixed. They were also in the main Flash Wiki (since it is an exact copy of the locations part of it).

| I have found that deviantART doesn't allow the text for the Flash wiki to be loaded. So to submit the wiki to dA requires me to upload a preview image and put a link to the actual flash in authors comments. I've done this for th Locations Sub-wiki and will be doing it for all others in the future. Just a heads up. | |

And what program should we open it in? i tried firefox but only the tables showed up...no images showed up. If you're using windows use tortoiseSVN If you're using Mac (Like me) just find a client that doesn't suck. These will let you checkout the SVN (Download it to your computer). You won't be able to commit to the SVN, since you're not on the commiter list.
